but Logan Murdock who did the ringer interview said that it’s not a guarantee that the extra money solves everything in the situation. That Jaylen has to really feel like he’s in a partnership, wanted and has trust with the organization. Says it’s not there right now or wasn’t at the time of that interview.

Again, money usually talks so jb making all nba is a plus for everyone even if it only puts a band aid on his situation here in the short term but gives us flexibility if he demands or wants out long term but I don’t think the extra money just kills any idea that he may leave- think it’s still a small possibility

Yeah he made it sound like a not great relationship lol, after what went down over the summer.

Money most of the times wins and hopefully does here but Jaylen isn’t a guy who typically does things status quo imo so I don’t think it’s a certainty that just because he makes all nba he stays - although it makes it extremely more likely Imo

The NBA and NBPA have agreed to increase the upper limits on extensions from a 120% increase on a current deal to 140%, which could have a significant impact on the futures of stars like Celtics forward Jaylen Brown.

Under the current rules, Brown would be allowed to sign a four-year extension worth $165 million. With the extension rules increased to 140%, however, Brown -- who is set to earn $31.8 million in the 2023-24 season, the final year of his current contract -- would be able to reach his four-year maximum of $189 million, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks.

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/36025332/nba-nbpa-agree-new-7-year-collective-bargaining-agreement

He's obviously still going to bet on himself for All-NBA if he doesn't make it this summer, but this does make him a little easier to trade in that disaster scenario since he can extend for a max with another team if he wants now I think.

I mean, no extension rule would change him enough to take an extension this summer that's not a supermax, but I guess this can't hurt and it's a good faith offer

He cannot get a supermax if traded. The Celtics can extend him this summer and trade him if he says no. If he refuses extension, then he will walk in free agency unless they make a verbal commitment to give him another shot at supermax.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Wonder how it’ll go if/when they only offer 4/189 this summer.

Will be pretty similar reactions by both lol.

55-60 mil for your second best player is a pretty tough swallow, under the new CBA.

It’s only a problem if you need to add players. If Celtics lock up what they have it will be near impossible for other rising teams to match their depth for a couple of years through free agency and will have to hit home runs in the draft.

It could make it much harder to trade out of a regretted supermax contract however in the future.

I can't wait to see Jaylen sign a supermax extension with the Celtics. And see Jaylen haters torment themself.

Don't bait/troll the "Jaylen haters." Let's make this thread less hostile, please. -b

I guess it’s just a question of whether he makes second or third team all NBA at this point.

It’s his best shot to make all nba right now than it ever will be….once it goes to position less it gets exponentially harder for him

Since Kyrie bailed I had missed having a divo in the organization. Happy for Jaylen.

better win the championship this year then because if he gets that much money our depth goes away and we won't get anywhere near another Finals. You only pay top 15 players that type of money.

and the only reason he's in the conversation this year is because of injuries/load management. Players will make sure they play at least 65 games so they reach thresholds to earn incentives plus awards/accolades so expect that advantage he has to go away.

That is not actually true. Celtics can resign Jaylen and Grant and go way over the cap. They just won’t be able to use the MLE this off season to add another good player to replace Grant if they don’t sign him. That is still true even if they trade Brown or choose not to extend him. The Celtics are committed to $155 mil in salary next year so are 17 million above the tax line already.

Nothing about new rules changes a team’s ability to keep its current players, sign its draft picks or continue to develop 2 way players or even sign veteran minimum players.

At trade deadline, it was suggested that the Celtics, by keeping Gallinari, would be able to add him and an MLE to team this off season. The new CBA has taken away MLE….that is all….but the benefit of clarity with Brown is huge.

Thought I needed to read five pages on the "Houston going after JB" Rumor. If Boston does need to trade JB, they do have some nice young players/assets.

Give me Segun, Jabari Smith, K Martin and a first and call it a day.

There are going to be a lot of teams after Jaylen Brown. Why would there not be?

I did not imply there wouldn't be but I personally think that's a good return considering jalen only has one year left on his contract
