He could win fmvp and we win the finals and the swap without better protection is still wreckless move. I mean, I'll take it, but still wreckless

Steals too! The 22 stocks last night tied our season-high.

Going back to 1983, this was only the 4th time Celtics registered double digit steals and double digit blocks in the same playoff game.

I will redundantly repeat what I believe in.. So once again I will say he may be the most underrated player in the NBA. Having a hard time thinking of someone else right now.

The basketball nerds rate him right and talk about him quite a bit. Since nothing in his game is flashy, he’s quiet off the court, and he doesn’t put up huge numbers (mainly because of muted role/usage), it’s hard to notice him sometimes. But if you watch closely, there’s a consistency and steadiness he brings to the team. Stevens cliché phrase “just makes the right play all the time” applies most to him on the team other than maybe Horford.

Not sure if that’s sarcasm, but if Brad didn’t agree to the terms, there’s no White on the Cs. This is the same **** we complained about Ainge ‘cos he valued his picks too much (saved them for his white whale hunting, no pun intended) and wasn’t able to surround his main guys with the right pieces.

Our defense through the first two games has been unbelievable. Defensive rating of 103.2, Hawks shooting .407 from the field and .273 from the three. The Hawks offense is no slouch either.

What happened to Mike? (Sorry, I didn't get access to the Boston feed.)

Nothing specifically, he's just missed a lot of games this year and he's getting old. If we sweep, NBC Boston doesn't do anymore home games this year.

I personally thought that last season White was the ingredient that turned an underachieving disappointing team into a juggernaut based on what happened when he went into his first game - his style of play turned in the light bulb for everybody else. That said, his playoff performance last year combined with Brogdon acquisition did support the idea many had that giving up JRich, Langford and a #1 pick plus 2028 swap was a potential overpay.

Now, it looks like highway robbery. We got a guy who is playing at an all-star level under a team friendly contract for 2 years who many argue is our #3 option on offense and capable of locking up Trae Young for basically a worthless #1 pick, a lottery bust, a journeyman and a pick swap that looks like it will never happen.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

So here’s the issue with defending the Celtics, and Tatum in particular, now that his shoot/pass decision making is elite. The Hawks have gone out of their way to take away the three ball, as everyone knows. But any time Tatum puts the ball down, they trap or collapse, and either the guy he passes to gets a wide open shot, or they swing it to someone else for a wide open shot. Obviously he dribbles through it and finishes himself a fair amount too, but the Celtics put defenses in a really difficult spot, because you can’t take away everything. Look at how many guys have a wide open shot here lol.

When the players are spaced out and making quick decisions, this offense is close to unstoppable.

Derrick White going from almost unplayable on offense to a legit third option level offense generator with +++defensive value is the biggest development of the season.

In addition both Rob and Smart are looking closer to what they were last year. If these three things hold Celtics are clear favorites.

Horford getting a ring in green would be top 10 moment in my life.

That was the first clue as to how impactful Al Horford would be in his career. The Celtics did destroy them in all 4 home games but Atlanta had 5 elite players in starting 5 although JSmith and Marvin Williams were never consistently good. Bobby and Joe Johnson were big time players though.

As great as the Big 3 were….they didn’t always take care of business until threatened. They were better as underdogs than front runners.

The problem with Trae is he's a sixth man getting paid like a top-10 player.

Oops.

Those swaps almost never materialize. We just think they do all the time and in a really bad way because the one time a pick swap really hurt a team (or maybe one of two times?) in NBA history was the Celtics/Nets trade. A reckless move would be trading away something that has a high probability of turning into something very valuable for something not very valuable. Making a pick swap with the Spurs is the polar opposite of reckless.

…And, to be fair, #7 often playing to his elite offensive strengths (when he isn’t trying to set a TOV RECORD).

…And BIG AL defying his age.

Everyone, get your camera’s ready.

Of the top 20 players in usage rate, these are the only ones who had a lower turnover rate than Jaylen.

SGA: 10.1%
Mitchell: 10.3%
Tatum: 10.4%
Booker: 10.6%
Fox: 10.6%
Jaylen: 11.4

Then the rest of the top 20 had a worse turnover rate. The issue with Jaylen is he doesn’t really make up for it with playmaking, or even the threat of playmaking. But he really doesn’t turn the ball over much, he just has memorable turnovers.

The other issue with Jaylen is that he doesn't score on good efficiency despite being a secondary scorer and his scoring often comes at the expense of ball movement and team offense.

SGA: .626
Mitchell: .614
Tatum: .607
Booker: .601
Fox: .599
Jaylen: .581

Then some fun comps like

KD: .697

Jaylen is a good but not elite scorer who wants the volume of an elite scorer, often at the expense of team success.
