My first thought was taking a quality starter and making them sixth man should result in a likely 6MOY.

However on second thought it's really not that straightforward because so many players would not have the buy-in and make the right adjustments to do so.

Brogdon has been excellent for most the year and has given whatever Celts needed, be it distribution, driving or high quality shooting with decent defense. Not to mention the locker room vibes and BBIQ.

A well deserved win.

It really annoys me when a player who is clearly top 2 or 3 on a team comes off the bench and then gets 6th man recognition, think manu or sweet lou. 6th man should genuinely be the 5th, 6th best player on a team. At his best brogdon could be 3rd, but white smart, Lob and Al are all so good at times, brog can easily be our 6th best player on any given night. Inferior players weren't started ahead of him just so he could be called a 6th man

I agree with all this.

He openly said he had to realise he's not a great #1 option, but instead work on being a great #2, #3, #4.

We want talented guys, encouraged at every turn to be 'the man', who get paid based on counting stats too often, and who have achieved enormous personal success during their formative years by being 'the man' to remain competitive beasts while being realistic and humble enough to accept lesser roles for the good of their team.

Massive kudos to him for threading that needle. Hope he gets a nice shiny ring out of it.

Malcolm’s been absolutely perfect.
Now let’s go get that title!

And, to go probably too far: a few more awards and a few titles and he can be in the HOF conversation. Instead of spinning his wheels somewhere like IND. That is how smart he is:)

It's a valid criticism... and he didn't have a jacket made either.

Happy for Malcolm. He wanted to come to a winner. Brad told him if he came here he'd have to come off the bench.

Malcolm accepted the role, made the sacrifice. Could have gotten more minutes and scored more points on a different team.

But came here, won 6MOY and now will hopefully win a ring.

Good stuff!
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Brogdon mas been outstanding and I love the addition. But I would have voted Herro or Maxey for 6th man of the year. There was little pressure on Brogdon to perform with all of the other talent around him.

I'm not sure how it makes sense to blame Brogdon for having good players around him. I'm also not sure why you think picking Herro who started every game he played for the Heat this season or Maxey who is also ineligible because he started 41 out of the 60 games he played makes sense for this award.

The ref is the 5th man for those teams.

Brog, Hauser & Hunter ALL went to your alma mater & my daughter’s, Sam.

Was feeling a little extra like a masochist this morning and went back through and saw the box scores from the Finals. We had such junk coming off the bench last year. Thank you for being you, Malcolm.

When we first got him, I said he is going to be the best combo guard the Celtics have had since DJ.

First Celtic to win the 6th man award since Bill Walton in 86 right? That's nearly 40 years ago. What an accomplishment. Glad he is on the Celtics. Also props to Brad for getting him.

Gotta have your 6th man of the year on the floor in crunch time.
