He's a 4 year college senior. Already 22. And he's 6'1. So there are the negatives.
He's a 38+% 3pt shooter.. one of the better in his draft class. He's got a really fast/tight dribble. Gets a lot of steals (averaged 1.6 a game). Has a BPM of 12 which is nuts. Has basically a 60% TS% which is nuts for a guard.
As an older player he'll be able to contribute right away.
He's mocked lower in the draft (high 20's) - likely due to age. Could try to buy another pick or trade down (Brooklyn has #21 and #22).
Someone at SI labeled him the best shooting PG in the draft too:
https://www.si.com/nba/draft/newsfeed/best-shooter-for-each-position-in-2023-nba-draftMarcus Sasser shot 38.4% from three this past season for Houston. The high level shot-making guard has a great combination of elite shooting ability off the catch and off the dribble. He ranked in the 95th percentile in catch and shoot jumpers as he shot a ridiculous 45.2% on all jumpers off the catch. He has the ability to play off the ball and operate next to other star caliber players who need the ball on offense. What separates him from most lead guards is that he can legitimately create his own shot off the bounce. He has an elite step-back jumper with a great handle to create so much separation.
I liked him last year with our second round pick and he shot it a lot better. He came back this year and his team fell short and he didn't make a marked improvement on anything.
Ultimately, I like the defense, the shooting is NBA level, but is he a good enough playmaker? I don't think we can survive with a 6'1/6'2 shooting guard. Guys like Seth Curry and Bryn Forbes have a role, but they are 8th men because size wise they can't defend well enough.
If we were to be in the 20s, I'd draft Colby Jones and Brandin Podziemski or take a flyer on Maxwell Lewis or Terq Smith ahead of Sasser. To me, he is still a late first, early second type. Perfect fit for a playoff contender.
My thoughts exactly. I might even swing on Cissoko over Sasser tbh.
But I do like him a lot and I think he'd be like a Kendrick Nunn type.
