I stopped being a fan after Butler left. I've watched about 5 total full games since that point, and none of them were in this year's playoffs. How people could hang through that abomination or going into the 2019 summer without a GM, or the whole Colangelo nonsense, but bail because they kept Doc freaking Rivers?

That suggests to me that fans are still in denial. They want to blame this whole mess on Rivers so they can bury their heads in the sand and talk themselves into a coaching change being the solution, because it's too painful to admit that this team is cooked and will never win a title. They're out of picks, out of money, out of options. It's hard to admit this run is finished after all the tanking all the losing, all the building. So psychologically people are trying to talk themselves into firing Rivers being the solution.

It's the only explanation people would be so passionate about something of such little prioritization.

You're right, but even after all of those catastrophes, I still believed that something positive would happen. Something like maybe the internal improvement of the players would compensate for Doc's lack of coaching skills. Joel did improve over the last couple of years, especially passing out of double teams. Maxey has improved leaps and bounds. PJ being here also made me hopeful.

But internal player improvement is not enough to compensate for Rivers' disaster of a coach, and that's why I'm done if he stays again.

Even if he is fired, however, I will still keep my eye in the offseason and see what this team does to improve. If they don't do much, my viewership and fandom isn't worth giving.

I am just speculating, and making a joke about their organizational spinelessness.

I absolutely recommend fans put their fandom on hold, but ultimately it's up to them. I said it since Butler left. That offseason was their final nail in the coffin. I posted it then. Given their resources and their situation, it was highly likely those mistakes would cost them a chance at ever winning a title. Granted, I didn't think they'd have a shot at Harden after that, but turns out he wasn't close to the player he used to be, which I didn't know because I stopped watching basketball after the Butler fiasco.

Generally though, the Sixers are a detestable organization that is not worth investing your time in. They're a complete and total waste of time. I actually hope many fans start feeling this way because getting empty seats down there would be a good start to send a message change is needed. As long as that building is full, they have no incentive to change.

Why have a take when you bravely stopped being a fan after Butler left and don't watch games? Why post here at all? It's been like 4 years.

Braveness has nothing to do with it, but not sure why do you care.

I like discussing basketball, but I don't watch or emotionally invest in the team anymore. You don't have to get it or understand it.

I like Doc as a general culture setter. We’ve seen big improvements from guys like Maxey & Embiid during his tenure and even development from someone like Tobias Harris. But he’s clearly not the right leader in big games & moments. Harden, Embiid, and Doc all have the same panicky loser “it’s never my fault” energy & they feed off each other to terrible effect.

I've watched progressively fewer games every year since the Raptors loss. Watched around 10 this year. Don't blame or question anyone who loses their enthusiasm for good this time. Life is short.

I don't blame anyone who has lost interest, it's just a little weird to question the ones who have been sticking around.

I've been kinda sorta in the same boat. For me after the Butler stuff, I was fed up and took a 2 season hiatus from the team, but at the time I was just going to play it by ear and if I had the craving or desire to watch the Sixers again, I would. I watched my first game after that when they got Harden and what I realized is I just don't enjoy watching Sixers basketball anymore. Which is such a drastic change from how I've been my entire life. For most of my life when I woke up, I was counting down the minutes to 7pm that night to tune into the Sixers and watch them play. Now, I just have no interest and I haven't been able to get it back.

I realized it was truly gone when the playoffs came the last two seasons and I had no real interest in watching. In game 1 this year vs Brooklyn I was playing Resident Evil 4 Remake and in the middle of a session I got a text from a friend about the Sixers and I totally forgot they were even playing. That would have been unfathomable for me even a handful of years ago.

Maybe one day I'll get it back, but whatever emotional connection I've had with this team for almost all of my life is long gone. To each their own though, do what makes you happy.

I hate this team, this franchise, this fanbase, and myself.

I like basketball and they are my local team that I have been watching since 2000 so I am here despite it all.

i get being pissed off and not wanting to put yourself thru the stress anymore tho....i don't get constantly reminding people about it tho lol.

And they're always the first ones to jump on here in times like this. The board has been a trollfest since 5:30 yesterday.

Wish I could go back in time and counsel my 10 year old self to pick a different team. Grew up in western PA without a team & loved AI so figured I’d stick with this dumbass franchise. Worst decision I’ve ever made lol.

Man, fans are just built differently today. I grew up a fan of all four teams here, and they've all gone through times way worse than what we've had here the last few seasons.

I'm not saying to not be unhappy and vent, but all of this "I'm done" and "I wish I rooted for a different team" stuff is just bizarre to me. What, we only follow a team if they're exactly as we want them to be?

I don't care a fraction as much as I did 30-40 years ago - money and mercenary players tok care of that - but the idea of rooting for another team just doesn't register.

Guess it's the age of social media and the way sports are not local like they were, but the idea of adopted and temporary fandom is just strange.

But I've never been a "fan of the jersey" - I need to like the team to root for them. I'll take time away if the team is unlikable, but find another team? C'mon.

I like being a fan of the team. The ups & downs are part of the experience and at the end of the day I’m happy to experience both. But I’m not from Philly, the people in my life are not Sixers fans, and the team literally quits every year so it’s hard not to feel a little foolish & complain during times like these.

For me, this forum exists to vent my feelings about the team because it’s my only outlet to do so (unless I want to drive my wife insane).

I loved Embiid as a prospect, the comparisons with Hakeem and how rare his package was, that's the main reason I've been supporting Sixers all this years, time to be honest lol

I get that. I'm from around Philly, and as a kid everyone was all Philly in sports. I didn't run into other fans until moving to Northern NJ in high school.

There have been way more downs than ups with Philly teams over the last 50 years, but I wouldn't trade it for anything else regardless how many championships they might have. Something about being a Philly fan, it's always been us against the world.
