You guys need to understand the difference between employment and slavery. The former is when your personal life and beliefs is none of your employer’s business. The latter implies that your owner may force you to follow certain political beliefs or … your spouse at will. It’s 2023 outside. Wake up guys. There are some boundaries to in what your employer may demand you to do. What Ja has done is perfectly legal. The NBA should reconsider its role in politics.
im sorry, this has zero to do with slavery. An employer can have professional clauses required for employment. Disney cast members used to not even be allowed visible tattoos or facial hair. I work for a professional services company and have to be careful of any social media posts that I do, or if i get drunk and embarrass the company. Ja is a representative for the company and the franchise who gets paid millions of dollars. again, i havent gone over his contract, but sports nowadays, they put in moral's clauses to protect themselves for players that go too crazy, especially when there are guaranteed contracts. This isnt a political thing, so not sure why you are trying to bring that into play. the NBA is an entertainment business, a multi-Billion dollar business, that they want to protect and they have lawyers to protect them of these things. If there is not legal protection, Ja can sue to protect himself. But considering he didnt sue, and his agent didnt sue, last time that tells me there is some type of clause in his contract.
Yes, I conceptually agree. My point is that in the argument between a player and the organization, you like an individual is free to take either side. And I am amazed how quickly and automatically people are taking the side of the corporation. I am a fan of Ja and trust him more than a bunch of rich morons who has no other appetite but for money, status and power. It is interesting that people usually quickly reconsider their sympathy toward corporations or government when they themselves experience unfair treatment at their workspace and surprisingly get no support from their fellow colleagues.
its not necessarily taking the side of the organization. but Ja is throwing a opportunity away.
-backyard pickup game, threatens a 17 yr old with gun and him and his boys beat up the kid
-brings 8-9 of his boys to threaten 22 yr old shoe store worker when his mom called him. banging on store door and saying he was waiting until he got off of work
-his boys threatened to beat a student at his sisters high school volleyball game, and broke said students phone.
-Ja confronts Indiana Pacers. later, an SUV with Ja in it drives by Pacers as they are loading on bus and has red laser (purportedly a laser sight from a gun) shine on multiple players. A Pacers security guard in the loading area at the time remarked: “That’s 100 percent a gun.”
this isnt just one incident, this is a pattern. He came out 2 weeks ago and send he needed to make smarter decisions. But this pattern is why he will get little support from colleagues. You dont go around with your boys threatening people with guns. His "boys" are with him because he has money and fame. doubtful they would stay if he didnt have that. by all reports, he wasnt like this in high school and college. its like he is trying to create "street cred". If the video was by itself, it wouldnt be a big deal. but after getting in trouble just a few weeks ago when he video'd himself brandishing a gun and then this, it ratchet's it up a little. then add in all the other incidents, it is a troubling pattern. if he doesnt figure this out, he could easily be out of the league.
