Ausar is locked in at 6 for me. He is a lottery ticket if he hits his ceiling. Having the 11th pick we can afford the risk

I hope Detroit takes Ausar, but it looks like they're sold on Cam, based on reading their forum.

It certainly does feel like the top 5 in some order is going to be...
Wembanyama, Henderson, Miller, Amen, Whitmore

Re: 2023 NBA Draft Thread 3
I think I'd be okay with Jarace Walker, Cason Wallace, or Black with the 6th pick.
I'm not interested in the Thompson Twins because I feel like they are gimmicky in the way they've gone about the whole draft thing. I even heard they moved a couple of players from a team that beat their team in the preseason because they wanted the Twins to be on the best team. Then you have to think they got a favorable whistle all year.

Whitmore seems like best fit available and possibly BPA for Detroit. I think he ends up as a piston

shadrock wrote:Why is everyone overthinking this? We need exactly what Gradey Dick gives us, yet we are somehow hooked on the fact hes projected to be in the late lottery range rather than at 6. Just freaking take him at 6! Hes perfect in every way alongside Franz and Paolo. We dont need some worse creator than both Franz and Paolo who also cant shoot. We pass on Dick at 6 and he gets picked at 9 or 10 and we are kicking ourselves.
I agree he's a really good fit.. But that word fit is a really bad word when you're picking this high. We are in an awkward position cause we shouldn't really be picking at 6. When are only picking here cause of the crap ton of injuries. We are a better team then the pick says. So while we should be thinking fit as we have a glaring weakness you don't do that at 6. You take the highest upside player. Its why I really don't like this draft for us and would prefer to just trade out of it.

Yeah, he would be my first pick. I would even offer the Pistons the 6 and 11 for him. Portland or Houston could surprise everyone and take Whitmore.OrlChamps2030 wrote:basketballRob wrote:I hope Detroit takes Ausar, but it looks like they're sold on Cam, based on reading their forum.

Beware blaming a draftee for how he's gone about the draft.
Some players who go the classic route regret it. Some who go GLeague don't separate themselves and some do. Some who go far afield like NZ struggle and some don't.
And some guys like Shaedon Sharpe take what appears to be the worst possible course of action and end up not only getting drafted high, but then justifying the high pick.
Playing in the OTE make them a tough Eval. I wouldnt be surprised if they got favourable treatment. But I think it's a very naive course of action to throw the baby out with the bathwater and disregard a couple of premium talents like them.
If you're looking for the next Jimmy Butler type in your roster, Amen for me is a decent bet. Shooting issues are just that. A factor. But probably similar or less a factor than Dick's lack of athleticism, Hendricks' lack of basic ball handling, Whitmore's/George's lack of IQ, Cason's lack of a first step etc etc.

The Thompsons are as big as Taylor Hendricks, have guard skills, and are much better athletes.

I remember Exum getting the same buzz. A big PG with a long wingspan.jezzerinho wrote:basketballRob wrote:I think I'd be okay with Jarace Walker, Cason Wallace, or Black with the 6th pick.

Dante Exum was 6'6 with a 6'9 wingspan and not nearly the athlete the Thompsons are. Not really comparable prospects

Cam Reddish is 6'7 with a 7'1" wingspan and can handle the ball. He did go 9th in the draft despite his poor shooting at Duke.eyriq wrote:basketballRob wrote:I remember Exum getting the same buzz. A big PG with a long wingspan.jezzerinho wrote:

Cam is a way better shooter than the Twins, and he'll likely be out of the league as soon as this season.

Eh, he's listed as small forward and these Thompsons are widely considered to be guards with guard skills. I think if they just leaned in on athleticism it would be more comparable. I don't see the same red flags. We'll seebasketballRob wrote:Cam Reddish is 6'7 with a 7'1" wingspan and can handle the ball. Cam is nothing like Ausar or Amen Thompson. Closer to Gradey Dick.

Re: 2023 NBA Draft Thread 3
My top 3 for Orlando at #6 of the likely attainable players:
1) Cam Whitmore
2) Ausar Thompson
3) Anthony Black
Really don't see that changing unless movement happens.

Damn throwing it back with that one.. like Exum they are beating up on younger and lesser competition too.
Clearly they are very athletic with great measurements but it’s hard to gauge just how good they are. The twins feel very boom or bust to me.. I do like that Ausar’s jumper has improved though. I will have to watch more tape

+1
Not the same order, but not mad if that is what happens.
Personal order.
Ausar , Cam, Anthony
If your 1 & 2 option are available today and nothing has changed. I wouldn't be mad if we got Cam.
