https://985thesportshub.com/listicle/cedric-maxwell-hears-rumors-regarding-game-3-postgame-tension/

Rich: What were these exchanges you said that you heard after the game?

Cedric Maxwell: I just heard that there was just a run-in between people and upper management and with the players. I don’t know any more than that. That’s a rumor that came through, but it didn’t matter about that. But with Wyc and what happened with them, it was more about what the players did on the floor and how they responded.

Rich: Wow, so upper management and the players. You said that there were run-ins between those two that were fairly tough conversations.

Cedric Maxwell: I don’t know. I just heard, just heard. So don’t quote me as ‘That’s what Max said’. No, I didn’t say that. I just heard that people said it was a run-in, that’s all I get out of there. All I say is the focus and the about execution or lack of execution in that game, that was the biggest thing that I took out of that. You know, I did TV that night afterward and it was just hard to do. It was hard for me to look at that camera. At the end of the day, I had a chance just today to see the players and, you know, and just talk to them briefly and talk about the game and, you know, just getting a feel and saying, do you guys could still win this thing. I think that’s what was the biggest point. It was, you know, I’m like, ‘okay, yeah, you lost. you had your ass kicked, but now you have to get up and play. At the end of the day, this is more about courage than anything else. Because the easiest thing this team could do right now is to lay down a rollover and play dead.

Lol still nothing. It’s just Max and his feelings. My money is still on pasta recipes.

Where's Slax at? His poll probably started this whole thing.

You're welcome, mate! We may not always see eye to eye on things, but at least you've always called a spade a spade. I am just crushed at so many levels that it has come to this. People think I'm this vortex of negativity, and it may have a tinge of truth to it. But I'm a Celtics fanatic, and with each playoff exit, a piece of me dies inside. This team has disappointed me four years in a row now and I'm done with them. If Brad brings back the band together next year, he deserves to be fired. Make some wholesale changes and begin laying the foundation for a team built on discipline and trust. This team had neither, eother in themselves or with their diehards.

Basically, with the details that max has said, you can interpret it to fix whatever narrative you'd like.

Not sure what to think about next year yet — there’s dust to settle yet. And hey I appreciate your passion for the team, and that’s always been consistently clear. Obviously everyone’s about ready for a break and it’s probably good for us to get away from hoops for a bit!

The 1% is definitely the pasta recipe aspect. Jaylen said it without saying it...

It starts with an innocent exchange of words but can quickly escalate into sideways glances, shuffling of feet, and the rolling of eyes.

Exactly. We're in this hole 45% because of shooting variance, 45% because of Joe and 10% because a few key players have underperformed. Luckily there are a few good head coaches available now that are low-risk, known commodities. If that doesn't work then Brown is trade-able and hopefully can be moved for someone with a little more playmaking next off-season.

I just worry that ownership/management will stick with Joe because they're worried about being criticized for "4 coaches in 4 years", etc

Right on. I'm going 30% Butler, 20% Spo > Mazzulla, 20% they want it more, 20% Jaylen MIA, 10% shooting.

Yeah, credit to the Heat as well. I was accounting more for our underperformance in my percentages. Our mentality/approach I put somewhat on Joe, even though it was a problem under Brad and to some extent Ime.

Tweak any of those a bit in our favor and we're probably at 2-2... No need to overreact.

I would hope Wyc said something to the Jays along the lines of….”if you think you can roll over and give up and still get the supermax from me…think again…..I’ll blow it up this off-season.”
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

I'll be honest, and I don't think that's what happened, but I'd very much respect Wyc if he did effectively challenge their demeanor/attitude and warned them not to assume already they're worthy of the supermax.

I wouldn't put it past ownership/management to keep Joe for the "4 coaches in 4 years" optics either. That said, the way I see it is Mazzulla was dealt an overall lesser hand than Udoka (partially cause of Udoka, mind you). Mazzulla doesn't have the assistant staff Udoka has. Unless Mazzulla pushes back in a big way on getting more veterans in the coaching room, I'm not against bringing him back. But other than that, we are in the ECF; it's not like we bowed out in the 1st round. It's hard for me to flip the narrative into this being such a bad season that Mazzulla now has to go after he was shoehorned unceremoniously into it, only to handle it well enough to have the interim tag taken off in the first place.

Can I just ask..... if the Boston Celtics players HATE each other as much as some media would have us believe then why do they keep winning elimination games? You would think they would have folded down 3-2 to Phili after a humiliating game 5. Or after going down 3-0 to MIA following a humiliating game 3. Instead they come back and play 4 of their best defensive games of the entire year.

It's just very strange behavior for a team full of guys who all hate each other.

Return to Boston Celtics
