Don't you think he'd be available if we trade down?

Zero chance he’d be available in the 2nd round. Just say you don’t know anything about his game, or move on without replying.

It’s possible. It depends on how workouts go, but he’s right up there with Bufkin in my opinion. He should be taken ahead of a guy like JHS who a lot of draft media are still going crazy over.

Still can't understand the Amen hype.

He's going to be 21 in season. He's old to have never faced competitive competition. His shot and form are broken and it will likely need to be rebuilt. While he does potentially provide defensive value, it's lower leverage because he will primarily be a 1-3 defender which doesn't impact your defense as much as a rim protector or a guy who can defend big wings.

As mid-late lottery pick, maybe there's value in taking a chance of him. But it's wild to me that he's projected to go top 5.

Actual set plays are going to have to be run for a guy like Hawkins, especially early in his career. From what I understand he's also got a bit of a mid range game and he's a good cutter and athletic enough to finish well at the rim.

I really wouldn't be too worried about his defense, you can tell just by watching his tape that he's got a lot of dog in him and is extremely competitive, the strength and weight will come as he gets older.

I'll trust this FO to pick the right guy, even if I may not like who they pick they've earned the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the draft. However, I would be ecstatic if they picked Hawkins at 13.

His % at the rim was really weak and not many attempts, and he shot a really weak % on midrange. He did get to the line, which isn't usually the case for a shooter. imo Podziemski isn't similar. He's an on ball player with some off ball capability, but he's best with the ball in his hands. Hawkins is just a typical one dimensional shooter. 90% of his 3s were assisted. I think there's almost no upside with him, but he will probably do what he does in the NBA just fine.

Yeah, him and Podz are not similar at all. Podz is much more of a combo guard that wants to be a point guard at the next level, whereas Hawkins is a shooting guard through and through.

I guess we just disagree on Hawkins though, because I believe he's got a ton of upside. He needs a lot of reps and he needs to build up his strength and weight, but I can see him being a high level starter. I also just get the impression that the kid is going to be a gym rat and maximize his potential.

"Miller provided the teams he met with a document from his lawyers. He stated that document explains everything those teams need to know, and that he wouldn't be talking about it further. That approach has left teams frustrated. ESPN's Jonathan Givony said that the Charlotte Hornets and Portland Trail Blazers, holders of the second and third picks in the draft, still have questions that need to be answered."

Scoot going number two so the 3 and 4 picks look a bit foolish now as Miller falls extremely hard. Better to go for the 7th pick. Raps would never draft a "kid" who supplied a murder weapon. Bad league PR scenario any way they slice it especially when crossing borders. Loaning weapons should be part of any sober gun laws. Here you go rob a store. Here you go get your money back from those dealers. Here you go make your threats count. Here you go just in case the protection racket arseholes give you the gears...

Miller seems really naive. I felt sorry for him in that Shams interview, talking about snacks and cars. There's a plausible theory that Givony is going out of his way to smear Miller because his friend Mike Schmitz now works for the Blazers FO and he's trying to get him to slide to #3.

Scoot is probably not going #2. imo this is a CP3 situation where he should go higher but teams are going to outthink themselves.

CP3 didn't go #2 because he is only 5"11 without shoes and Charlotte being Charlotte

They're similar in that they are 2 of the best shooters in the draft, along with Dick and Miller.

The difference is Podz's 3s were not assisted because no one helped off of him as his teammates were terrible, Podz had very few catch and shoot 3 attempts relative to the other top shooters as most of his were self created since his teammates were terrible. Hawkins got a lot of looks from teams not focusing on him, he had the 3rd highest BPM on his team and was only 1.4 ahead of 7th on his own team. I know BPM isn't everything and he also opened up looks for his teammates to increase theirs, but BPM is a bit of a team stat in that it can get inflated being on a really good offense.
Podz offers way more than just shooting whereas that's all you're getting from Hawkins.
The Derrick White comparison is decent to Podz, White had more blocks, slightly fewer steals, less rebounds, but better free throw rate against somewhat better competition. (SOS was 6 v 5 on sports reference) White was also 2.5 years older after having played junior college basketball for 3 years.

At that time Charlotte was actually New Orleans.

He's an incredible athlete with beyond elite functional athleticism for the game of basketball who can handle the ball tightly at high speeds and you did not mention a lick about his passing and ability to get to and finish at the rim, two major parts of his kit. At least bring those abilities up because it's undeniable how insane of a dribble penetration game he has and he has great feel and vision on the court and can throw bullet passes all over the place. The guy does tons of stuff you cannot teach.

Also I am not coming out saying I know 100% the Thompsons will succeed in the NBA. The one thing I can guarantee is that the movement skills on the court are real and will absolutely translate and have nothing to do with only existing because of the competition they played. Those skills are all real and will be displayed in the NBA. The question with them has more to do with the shot and the psychological aspect which is up to an FO to determine how they project in those areas because I don't know enough about that. If it turns out that these kids really love the game of basketball and are gym rats and can at least moderately improve their shooting percentages then the league should be on notice.

That's why from my perspective I will only take Amen once the high floor high ceiling players like Taylor Hendricks are off the board.

Tall PG, not a great athlete but can shoot and do positive things on defence. The shot chart and write-up kind of reads like Podz this year:

I feel that HOU already knows Harden is coming. That pick is definitely in play and maybe moreso than the POR pick. Portland just gives me vibes that they are going to take Scoot and tell Dame we tried and force his hand
