Team got blown out at home in elimination games 2 years in a row. That's on top of blowing a 2-0 lead and getting backdoor swept in the Finals prior to that.
Brian Geltzeiler: You see Mark Jackson getting a head coaching job as early as next year?

Adrian Wojnarowski: Not if people make calls on him. Not if an organization is doing their homework and knows all the things he brings with him.

Monty would be dumb not to take it but if he passes on it then Pistons are likely going to hire Charles Lee

Dumb move Detroit, just give him 3 years and if he does well after 3 years then give him an extension, Monty is a good coach but giving him a 6 year contract is a bad mistake

Woj is saying 6/78.5.

So I think the market spoke on this one. Monty is a really good coach.

I still think coaches are incredibly underpaid. A head coach should get paid more than a bench role player. I hope this starts to reset the market.

I think the Spo run might have helped Monty here. Probably wanted to lock in a good coach and do a proper long term rebuild rather than constant recylcing. I think its a fine hire all things considered.

According to Woj, the Williams deal with Detroit is worth just over $13 million per year.

I don't think you understand the position the Pistons are in.

Worst team over the past 4 years. Zero playoff wins in 15 years(playoffs twice in that span, both sweeps)and, at your leisure, go check the head coaches employed by the Pistons since Flip Saunders.

This is the correct move, without question.

Not to mention Monty probably wouldn't have taken the job without that kind of serious commitment. He was going to have other suitors. And that Pistons job wasn't that attractive without the money whip

The team missed the playoffs for a good decade or more before he got here. I would gladly take losses in the playoffs over being a joke of a franchise and competing in the lottery sweepstakes year after year.

So Nurse and Monty got hired right away, Bucks took a chance on a rookie coach but why the freak are teams not interested in Frank Vogel?
The guy won ring unlike Monty, his team 2nd best in DRTG the following year with Lebron and AD missing a combined 50 games, lost to the Suns when AD got injured and was ask to handle Westbrook.

You can ask the same question about Nurse and Bud? Someone has to be the scapegoat.
Ham didn’t exactly found a winning formula with Westbrook either.

do we know for sure that Vogel isn't telling teams no right off the bat? Both parties have to be interested

Not sure too but usually, it will be reported if the coach declined or not. There are even numerous reports if certain teams would be interested in so and so coaches.
Monty said no to the Lakers, also initially to Detroit.
Lue also rejected the Lakers offer, even the Lakers reportedly was interested in the freaking Sheed Wallace but also didn't happened as an assistant for the Lakers.
Kenny Atkinson reportedly initially said yes and came back.

If I were Doc, I'd sit this one out especially if you're still getting paid by the Sixers. Looking at the coaching landscape next year, I could see the Cavs, Wizards, Magic (if they don't make a stronger playoff push), Pels, Mavs, Blazers, Wolves, GSW jobs all potentially being available. Obviously some more than others but Cleveland is a job that is going to come with sky high expectations next season.
Bickerstaff: who's up for kickball?!!
Ed Wood: Only if it's the no-pants variety.
