Feels like some lazy analysis to me, but maybe that's just me.

We're the ones that found him off the street and gave him enough of a role that another team that he was worth continuing to develop.

Happy for Martin, but I doubt he is just a 49% three point shooter moving forward. 22/45 from deep for the series is nuts.

He shot 35% in the reg season, so still think he is a good player moving forward for Miami, but sometimes people just act like if you can do it in the playoffs then it is the new norm moving forward.

If anything I think it shows just how awful Mazzula is. Robinson, Martin and Vincent shot nearly 50% from three combined on over 100 attempts for the series. Dude just has no idea what he is doing. Meanwhile Tatum and Brown shot under 20% for the series on 90 attempts.

The list of players whose career floundered here and then found more success elsewhere is fairly extensive. Borrego was turning things around, but we went right back to our old ways once we decided to hire Clifford. I hope Kupchak will have a tighter leash on him this season since we should be trying to compete.

I always assumed Caleb and Cody could be good players. I ranked them very high coming out of college. I always thought Cody was a tad better than Caleb but turns out I had it wrong.

Is pretty cool how Caleb was out of a job and J Cole gave the Heat a call and told them to come check him out. Obviously that worked out well for him.

Diaw, Batum, Felton, Bellineli, and Hernangomez all looked better once they left Charlotte. I'd add Dudley to that list as well, but we weren't smart enough to hold onto him for very long.

Diaw is fair, don't really buy Batum as his best season here was much better than his best season in LAC.

Felton is kinda meh, he had like one season after he left that was better statistically than while he was here.

Bellineli I don't buy, he was only here one year in like his 10th year in the league and his stats while here were basically in line with his career averages.

Hernangomez is kinda meh for me too, I guess he got a little bump in productivity but he was basically a fringe rotation guy for us and for NOP.

So in 15 years we're talking a total of 5 guys, and that's including both guys we drafted and FAs. That to me is not a signal that other teams are regularly getting more out of our guys than we were able to.

Mostly a lot of column A with a smidgen of column B.

While it's true that Hornets stank probably depresses guys output simply from being on a less talented roster with one of the worst coaching staffs off the past... decade straight, it's not like Caleb was balling out all season.

https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/martica02.html

His per36 since leaving has pretty much been spot on to his rookie year. He's a success story because he was undrafted and clearly belongs in the league but there are a ton of folks being prisoners of the moment with his insane purple patch.

It's much more likely that he gives you 19/6 on 71%/48% splits lol.

Good for him, but it's all hyperbolic social media **** to get engagement (and a convenient excuse to **** on the Hornets).

I was all in on the twins from day one. I can see the rationale from the Hornets that maybe they didn't need both twins since they were very similar in their style of play and perhaps wanted to add a wing with a slightly different skill set. What's frustrating though, is we used roster spots that summer on oubre and bouk. I said at the time we signed oubre, if that was the plan then we should have just kept Caleb, who could give us basically the same level of impact at a fraction of the cost. Oh well.

Good on him for putting in the work. How much of that would have happened organically if he had stayed in charlotte? How much of that was a product of being around the heat culture and locker room? Sadly we will never know the answer.

Other than caleb, there aren't too many former Hornets we have let go that I have regretted.

I just assumed Hugo was one of his sons who did the job so he could flirt with the honeybees

I think I picked the Nuggets to win the chip, but I am rooting for the Heat even tho my ex lives in Miami and I do not like the Heat because of it

In an interview today Caleb Martin said something along the lines of getting waived by us was a huge slap in the face

Seems a little ungrateful, but whatever, good for him.

Did he say anything gracious about being signed and given an opportunity as an UDFA? Giving him PT as an UDFA?

What a dumb move to waive a 25yo averaging 5/3/2 on 37.5/24.8/64.1 shooting splits. Really should make a point to hold onto that.

His per36 production this year for the Heat is essentially the same as it was his second year in Charlotte (mediocre).

In the first round this year he averaged 11/5/5
In the second round he averaged 11/5/4
In the ECF he decided to have the best 7 game stretch of his entire life and all of a sudden he's a superstar.

Sounds more like he meant getting cut was a wake-up call rather than an insult.

Playoffs overreaction every year...

Mitchell was a bum last year because of playoffs
Dillion Brooks, Poole and Jarrett Allen are getting hosed now. Then 6 months from now everyone will be back to loving them on new teams.

Same things last year, Jokic was bum because he lost in playoffs, shouldn't have been MVP.
Now this year, Embiid is a bum because he lost in the playoffs, shouldn't have been MVP.

At the time he looked really average, I don't blame our front office for cutting him. I don't know whether he just worked his ass off and improved or whether he's riding on the coattails of better veteran players like Bam and Butler and/or better coaching.

Either way good for him I guess.
