Talk all you want. This is the thread for it, not an NBA Finals game thread.

They can probably forget about those "15M" dollar deals now. I think we can move on from Strus regardless of how cheap he may be.
Yea Strus played his way out i think. I don't see how can we retain him after the performance for most of the playoffs actually

If u don't want 2b here, the way things work, u don't like it, then don't b here. U have 2 stand on something. If Miami ain't standing on something, they become alot of these organizations trying 2 find their identity. This is the culture, bro -Wade

Dame/Beverly
Caleb/Will Barton/ Cain
Jimmy/Duncan/Highsmith
Christian Wood/Crowder
Bam/Omer/Robinson

It's...beautiful. Could probably use a combo guard off the bench for some bench scoring.

Heat and Trailblazers trade:

MIA Acquires:
Damian Lillard

Trailblazers Acquires:
Herro
Lowry (expiring)
Jovic
3 FRP

Now if they want to move Herro to a third team and get some picks from that because they have a log jam at shooting guard that is fine too. Seems like a fair trade, young promising scorer in Herro, an expiring to help with cap space the next season prior, a young potential and draft picks.

Lopez would be perfect. He’s going to get money though, and many suitors.

If we had Lopez, we would have given Denver 1 game at most.

It was a hell of a run, but seems unfortunately the guys are running out of gas. Will still hold out hope that they can pull off a miracle but seems unlikely at this point.

Pivoting to the offseason I think this team has earned for the front office to bet on them and go big.

If what has been reported is true and Portland will help Dame get to where he wants to go I think we can get it done. Jimmy and Bam would have a strong case to make to Dame should we go on to lose in the finals.

In the offseason I believe Miami would have their 2023 or 2024, 2028 and 2030 picks and pick swaps in 2027 and 2029 as a max offer as far as picks go.

Miami could match salaries offering Herro and Robinson(45.1mil) plus 3FRPs to Portland for Dame (45.6mil).

My dream would be to somehow convince Jerami Grant to want to come with Lillard and see if sweetening the deal by adding pick swaps, Lowry's expiring and maybe Jovic could convince POR to do a S&T with us for Grant as well. Keep in mind Grant can decide to go wherever he wants and POR get nothing for him.

You might be thinking there's no way we can afford that. Well even if we made no moves at all and re-signed no FAs we'd still be looking at a 177mil in total salaries (28mil tax bill), so Micky going to be paying a big tax bill regardless. Just a matter of whether Micky is going to pay that much for a team that may regress next season or whether he will try swing for big moves to bolster the team while maintaining a similar tax bill.

We'd likely need to let our FA's earning more than the vet min go. But if we can somehow convince Oladipo to not take his PO then it may make things more manageable.

Empty the chest to add these two to Bam and Jimmy over the next 4yrs and we gonna be in ECFs/Finals every year.

Front court of Jimmy/Grant/Bam would be elite defensively. Grant has also become a really good 3pt shooter and would be a perfect pairing next to Bam.

He's not a good rebounder though. We need some size man.

I like where you’re going with this and agree that Grant would be a great addition. But, I need to note that his defense is more myth than reality. He’s actually an average at best defender and has been for years. Still, he’s long and athletic and def capable to guard wings and PFs. He just won’t be a difference maker on that end

We got to the finals going against Giannis/Lopez, Mitchell Robinson, Horford/Williams and we losing to Denver because they are too potent and balanced offensively. Murray/Jokic are both talented playmakers and find the open man. We can't send help to Jokic/Murray every time and still recover on the pass or get back in position to secure the defensive rebound, the teams gassed, Jimmy's injured and were missing multiple guys.

Grant's bigger than anyone we have outside of Bam/Love and he giving you as many rebounds as Caleb does but he plays bigger than Caleb, he's better defensively and better from 3.

Plus if you add Lillard to the mix, our offense will be good enough to not have to worry about the size/rebounding disparity nearly as much.

Has he really ever been on any good defensive teams though? Outside of his 3 years with OKC and 1yr with DEN he's been playing on high lottery teams who were tanking and I wouldn't say OKC and Denver were really good defensive teams they were at best middle of the pack in those years.

I think a guy with Grant's toolkit would be far better utilized in Spo's defensive schemes than on other teams.

He passes the eye test for me. Defensive counting stats may not back it up. But I would say he is an above average defender.

Was Caleb a difference making defender before coming to Miami? Was DJJr and has he been since leaving? Miami has a nack for maximizing the defensive potential of players like this who have the tools but never really showed it before or don't focus enough on that end consistently.

It’s not about defensive counting stats. It’s about his actual game by game impact on defense. Eye test, advanced metrics, and consistent report from knowledgeable fans/analysts of the teams he’s on.

He’s toolsy but hasn’t been a plus defender over the past few years. He’s not a net negative on that side either. I agree Miami could get more out of him. I believe the reality is that his focus has been trying to become more of a top offensive option and he’s basically abandoned defensive focus or exertion to do that. In Miami his role would be different and I’m confident he’d be capable. Just adding context bc he’s been riding a defensive reputation based on his look/tools for a while and it’s worth understanding.

I still very much support the idea of trying to bring him on board. IDK what it looks like from a salary cap perspective
