Re: The Brandon Miller Thread
Miller can legitimately play 2-4 like Paul George.
He can playmake and shoot as a 2.
His natural 3 postion.
He has shown to be a really good rebounder too so the 4 is fine too.
I think him and Miles are a good pair of forwards defensively. Miles guards the beefier guys and Miller guards then lengthy guys. Doesn’t really matter who guards the 3/4. They both are interchangeable on both ends.

So you think Miller is starting at sf and Bridges at pf?

I'm confused myself. Pretty sure I meant their FG%s in all the games they played vs. top 50 teams when I posted these the first time. Wonder how those goalposts got there.

Yeah. I'm still confused. Explain it for someone stupid like me.

Re: The Brandon Miller Thread
I watched everyone of Jayson Tatums games at Duke and you can throw whatever stats you want at me, but Miller had a much better freshman season. I will not say Miller will be Tatum because that's foolish. But Miller had a better one year. Get out all your analytics.

Are we just going to forget how Tatum barely made over one 3 a game in college and shot 33 or 34 percent or whatever or is shooting the three suddenly a lost art now?

Re: The Brandon Miller Thread
Miller was by far a better college player than Tatum. Its not even close. Will he be a better pro? Hell no.

Then became a near 40% shooter from three on 7-8 attempts per in the NBA. So the question some of us are trying to answer: which skill's easier to picture a prospect improving on once an NBA player development staff gets their hands on them, three-point shooting or getting to the rack consistently?

https://barttorvik.com/playerstat.php?year=2023&p=Brandon%20Miller&t=AlabamaAccording to Synergy Sports, Miller was 33-43 (76.7%) on his transition rim attempts this year and only 33-84 (39.3%) in the half-court. Yes, 39% at the rim in the half-court, with only 3 dunks. Fewer than 14% of his overall field goal attempts were taken at the bucket — and that comes in one of the best-spaced offenses in college basketball under Nate Oats.

Re: The Brandon Miller Thread
Tatum had 8 college games when he shot under 40% overall. Miller had 14, including two when he had 0 made shots.
As far as 2pt shots go, Miller had 17 games when he shot 40% of worse. Tatum had 11.
Tatum shot 50% from 2 overall. Miller shot 48%.
In over half his games, Miller made 2 or fewer 2pt shots.
In his best 5 games from 2pt range (number of makes). They were against SC (terrible team), Arkansas, Gonzaga (bad defense) and Longwood (don't know who they are) and Vanderbilt.

Re: The Brandon Miller Thread
Somebody tell me how a 6-9 athletic player who has a smooth, quality form jump shot already is NOT going to get even better with complete focus on his game from professional coaching?
All this talk about Miller’s lesser games, or lower percentage shooting against top teams, just reinforces that this is a young man who will need to grow and strengthen to overcome such challenges. Tatum actually IS a good example of progression from a skinny young talent who grew into an all star. Scoot starts from a worse base relative to shooting percentage, finishing ability, etc.

I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

We aren't saying he won't improve, we're saying he struggles against good competition. Struggles inside the arc and so on. The majority, if not almost all of the Scoot fans, would be fine if Miller was the pick.
Some of the same augments people make against Scoot, people ignore when they apply to Miller.

Re: The Brandon Miller Thread
What conclusions can we draw from those two shot charts? Does anything stand out?

Re: The Brandon Miller Thread
College has less spacing
One was way more perimeter oriented than the other
One was a clear score first, first option guy and the other was a PG
One was a better ball handler so was able to get into the paint easier
They play two completely different styles of ball and have completely different roles.
There really isn't any way to compare the two head to head

Compared the same playtypes between the two. Scoot had a lot less spacing. Alabama ran a very modern offensive scheme for College basketball. Nate Oats 5-out offense which maximizes spacing. So a lot of times Miller had what looked very similar to NBA spacing.
Scoot was routinely loaded up on as his teammates could not shoot or reliably handle the ball. There are defenders sagged 10+ feet off the wings and corners just to help on Scoots drive.

Re: The Brandon Miller Thread
So now the G League has less spacing and a worse supporting cast than Alabama?
