In terms of value I don't think it's unfair. I think he's probably the 5th/6th player of his class currently (behind Anthony Edwards, Lamelo Ball, Tyrese Haliburton, Desmond Bane, and -some would say- Tyrese Maxey). Problem is, he's a 2 way 22 y.o. guard/wing who has already proven he belongs and has potential to grow even more. And 6+11 may be better, or may be worse. It's tempting, but if Spurs are able to sign him on a long term, team friendly extension then I'd keep him, otherwise I'd consider it and use 6 + 11 on something like Anthony Black / Cam Whitmore + Kobe Bufkin / Hawkins.

This just seems like spinning our wheels. What would we be looking to get with the 6th and 11th pick?

Hopefully a player as good as Devin Vassell! :D

We already have that.

This draft outside of Wembanyama is pretty weak so I'm not sure amassing picks this draft is what we want to do.

Besides the implication that we might possibly (the one sure thing this time of year are qualifiers) be interested in Kuzma (assuming he opts out to be UFA) after the Beal trade, the other aspect is that the Wiz are super high on Anthony Black, another PG we're rumoured to be interested in. I've been looking into him and like him more the more I see - great physical stature for a PG, dogged on D, smooth and intuitive passer and playmaker, cool, comfortable in his own skin personality.

The common characteristics we seem to be after in a PG are defense, great passing ability, and size. Not score-first flash, not a complete or dynamic scorer. We need a perimeter stopper who can get the ball to our scorers and break down defenses. If the shot is wonky we can work with that. But these seem to be the core features, assuming the character is there.

Kuzma...EWWWW!

If we are going to spend as much money as it would take to get Kuzma I would rather go for Porzingis. He doesn't need to be the man here, he doesn't have to play 82 games, he doesn't even need to start.

The PG you are describing sounds alot like Ben Simmons DOUBLE EWWWWW!!

I recall something about our interest in drafting him but he was chosen just before our pick. Fast forward to some weird fashion choices and lots of cap space, and our #1 pick attention suddenly has several names being suggested as on our radar, regardless of how tenuous. Part of it is us needing to reach a spending floor; part, we're going to be written about a lot more now.

As for PG type haha I said a shot that needs work, not a personality or character that does lol The PGs we're rumoured to be looking at in this draft are the antithesis of him.

I don't mind a vet PG, but it feels like some are not familiar with us or are just shoehorning some names that are being thrown about.

Do you still think we might trade into the first round? It was reported a while back, but nothing since. A mid first probably does not cost the world and could get somebody like JHS.
Jones is not awful, but obviously not our long term starter, so i'd like to give the spot to somebody who might keep it.

I think that might have been the plan earlier but teams seem to be asking too much in return for picks no one seems to want. Might happen though at the last minute.

Jones improved a lot last year so I'm all for giving him more time to prove himself. If Wembanyama stays healthy most of our players are going to look very different in a good way playing next to him. Jones included.

What we do know from a recent Brian Wright interview with Mike Finger is that any attempts to acquire another 1st will not include Keldon or Devin. Wright said we really want to see what we have with this core group together.

We will rather look to acquire the pick with our trade assets as in a picks package (maybe a vet, too?)

Word via Ellis is that we're looking at adding a C via trade and PG via another 1st.

Fingers crossed we get who we want.

Love Tre, and I expect him to be back though I agree that long-term he's a star in his role rather than a star starter, and there's nothing wrong with that. You need guys who are those glue character hard working culture guys whose game is good enough that there's not a big drop off, or in fact, provides a wrinkle that opponents have to deal with.

Excitement bubbling. A new chapter soon to begin.

I feel like we won't make any moves other than to make our picks, but I wouldn't mind being proven wrong.
