MJ selling an NBA team to buy an NFL team wouldn't be nearly as weird as him quitting the NBA in his prime to play minor league baseball.

I hope a lot of details about what went on inside the organization during the MJ era leak if the team ends up getting sold.

Outside of a few owners, I really don't think they have much say in the product on the court.

My thing would be are they invested in spending in coaching, analytics, scouting etc... things that MJ tends to skimp on. In terms of the actual owner though, I would be fine with a completely hands off owner as a complete 180 to Jordan who thinks he knows the most in the room.

I really hope they dont end up with the Hawks former GM, Schlenk, if they move on from Mitch.

Don't worry, that wouldn't happen. At the very least it would be better than MJ's former roommate taking over, as is the current plan

The best part about MJ selling would be the very likely scenario that new ownership cleans house (MJ’s friends and family) and puts the best basketball people available in charge to run the show.

late to this discussion, but my take is that the fact that Jordan is ready to give up control of the franchise, with the obviously tepid-at-best performance of the team during his tenure, shows once and for all that the competitiveness that defined him as the GOAT player is completely decoupled from his role overseeing the team. it was never there. he leaves pretty much no legacy of success here. perhaps a lesson there.

Weird quote by him, it specifically says he might not.

So, do people think he is even going to selling a majority stake?

Apparently there is a rumor Ty Lue might want out of LA. I wonder if having a new ownership group would open up some better coaching options. I obviously don't really know this, but I have a feeling it might have been the ownership situation that spooked Atkinson.

Where there's smoke there's fire. Jordan is definitely exploring the market for a buyer. Whether he can get the return he's looking for or not is the question.

I interpreted that quote as MJ doing his best to preserve his leverage and maximize the price. If he comes out and confirms that he's committed to sell and only the guys who have been rumored are interested he's going to leave money on the table. He's saying I'm willing to explore the possibility. Give me a number that makes me say yes.

Jordan will continue to oversee basketball operations through next Thursday's NBA draft and the start of free agency on July 1.

Once the sale is complete, Jordan is expected to keep a minority stake and a presence with the franchise, sources said.

He just can't help himself gotta keep is fingers in

6/18/22 - Kenny Atkinson turns down Hornets job

6/16/23 - MJ sale announced that won't be complete before start of FA

Terrible timing 2.0

Taking Scoot and MJ selling the team is the best outcome possible from this offseason.

MJ selling the team yet still retaining control of Bball operations is...very frustrating. The entire reason for wanting him to sell is so he can't screw around in basketball operations anymore.

Speaking of Atkinson he interviewed for a lot of jobs this summer and didn't get any of them, lmao.
