I have the same concerns about Harden as most, but it's about preserving asset value as we have no good way to replace him if he walks. If he signs a 2-year deal, we can make another run next season with a better coach, and can still trade him next summer if it doesn't work, as he'll still have trade value. And we can stay "over the cap" instead of dipping under and having to deal with all that entails.
An asset-poor team like us can't afford to let assets walk out the door.
100% this. Now we see what happens with Tobias or if we take a nap until next summer.
The only thing to keep in mind about Tobias is that he is our ticket to cap money in summer 2024, so if we run it back it might be advisable to keep him until at least the deadline if there are some suitors willing to pay something we can use.
Nobody has wanted to move him more than me, but at this point he has finally become an asset of sorts. Unless he can be moved now for assets that go beyond this season, I'd almost prefer to start the season with him, as you know he will put up his usual regular season numbers and perhaps lure a team into a deadline overpay.
