I have the same concerns about Harden as most, but it's about preserving asset value as we have no good way to replace him if he walks. If he signs a 2-year deal, we can make another run next season with a better coach, and can still trade him next summer if it doesn't work, as he'll still have trade value. And we can stay "over the cap" instead of dipping under and having to deal with all that entails.

An asset-poor team like us can't afford to let assets walk out the door.

100% this. Now we see what happens with Tobias or if we take a nap until next summer.

The only thing to keep in mind about Tobias is that he is our ticket to cap money in summer 2024, so if we run it back it might be advisable to keep him until at least the deadline if there are some suitors willing to pay something we can use.

Nobody has wanted to move him more than me, but at this point he has finally become an asset of sorts. Unless he can be moved now for assets that go beyond this season, I'd almost prefer to start the season with him, as you know he will put up his usual regular season numbers and perhaps lure a team into a deadline overpay.

If Harden is back, even if Tobias expires there is no cap room.

Hopefully Nurse can lobby for Harden to get more calls if he returns. Yes he baits but he also legitimately gets fouled a good amount of times with no calls. I think that has had a bigger effect on Harden's game than him losing a step athletically.

True but it's a question of overall payroll. We may need him to expire to get the payroll under control.

Say what you want about Doc, and I'm glad he's gone and think Nurse is an upgrade, but at least he has a ring. Don't love that James can just chase him out like that as if he's earned that right.

Payroll shouldn't be a concern right now.

Our window is the next 2-3 years at best. After that Harden is likely not a max guy anyways and prob gone. In the meantime we need to build the best team possible the only real asset the team has is Harris contract it would be silly to let it expire and leave us with no way of getting better

That's a nice thought but you're not the one paying the bills. That little rat Josh Harris is, and I guarantee you he will not let the payroll cross a certain threshold.

I don't think any team wants to cross the 2nd apron. Ever. It's overly punitive enough to serve as a de facto hard cap.

They ducked the tax this year. Plus Harris has a money printing press of an NFL team now. It should be up to the 2nd apron for the next two years. After that doesn't work it's a tear down and rebuild.

If they really want the payroll under control now or next year, then S&T Harden somewhere.

It's past due Morey starts earning those paychecks he's cashing.

Ding Ding!

So keeping both is the right move, as far as Harris, I've said before that he needs to expire completely, not even a trade deadline move is necessary (barring a mircale).

Exactly, it's a lousy situation, but Harden is gone imho unless

Beal to PHX, Ayton to WAS, CP3 to a third team?

The Heat will get him. They have picks that the Suns don't and Herro is better than Ayton.

Wonder if Lowry and Porzingis possibly get involved as well? Couple MIA firsts to WSH? Miami could end up with Bam, Porzingis, Jimmy, and Beal.

Okay but the Suns are looking to acquire Bradley Beal. Like people need to stop pretending that we need to settle for the current roster. We don't.

If it happens it will be because like you said Josh Harris has made that decision. Harris and Tucker will make 49M next year. We can bring in a big contract without adding to payroll.

The Suns will slam their window shut if they acquire Beal. They may have already trading for a loser like KD, but definitely would with Beal.
