The difference is, OKC maxed assets in trades BEFORE the tank commenced, guaranteeing they'd have young elite players AND a giant collection of picks to rebuild around. We just have some second rounders and our own picks. The only good news in this is that if we play this right, we'll never have to give up a first in the horrid Wall trade. But we won't have 1/4 the assets to play with that OKC had in their rebuild. We just have our own because we were too stupid to start this 4, 3, 2 and 1 year ago.
This is true, but it is what it is. We can talk about the past, but would you have done anything differently if you were the new GM?
No, as I've posted elsewhere, I would have done the exact same thing. It's a truly horrible trade, and if I were the GM in waiting, I would have made it clear to moron Ted that my coming into sign as GM would be contingent (not that you can write this into a deal obviously) into his understanding of what it entailed and what it meant to be able to turn around this hindenburg on fire of a franchise. I would make it abundantly clear to him that the way the team handled Beal the last 4.5 years was utterly inexcusable and that THEY and THEY ALONE were to blame for the horrific trade return they would be getting for Beal.
Ted being Ted, would probably still blame and fire the GM after 2 years because he's too ----ing stupid to realize that the mismanagement of the past half decade guaranteed at minimum another 3-5 years of failure MINIMUM once they failed to trade Beal, but I would get that in writing, and I would release that ---- to the press, from every angle, to clean my hands for my neck job.
But yeah, I don't blame management for any of this. Previous GM's, Ted, and the idiot fans that pressured him are 1000% to blame for this debacle.
At this point they need to sign and trade Kuzma if possible, otherwise just lose him, trade Kispert, trade Deni, and trade Porzingis, and hit rock bottom for YEARS because even Kispert and Deni at all have no value because by the time we might not suck anymore, those guys will be leaving anyway. You have to trade literally EVERYTHING of value, but before you do any of the trading, smoke out the next 3 draft classes w/the best scouts and insiders for high school scouting imaginable, it's always cheaper to get picks further down the line so if you can, do that too.
But yeah, I'd rip this at the roots, and rebuild aiming for single digit win seasons the next two-three years and pray the draft classes the next few years aren't ----, but karma for being this stupid is a ----- and knowing our luck, we'll land #1 overall in another 2000 caliber horror show class or 2020 for that matter.
