This is a guy who averaged 24 ppg on 57% TS two seasons ago. I know he had the meniscus injury, but there's a chance he can recover from that and get back to his old form.

This is an upside play, which is exactly what we should be looking for.

Sexton posted a 61.5% TS this year!

Unfortunately, when you look at all the numbers, he's never approached average productivity overall. & he's guaranteed $54+m.

On the good side, he's young & he did improve. OTOH, he's going into his 6th season. Will he continue to develop?

I can imagine us acquiring him.

The Jazz have 9 & 16 in the draft, & Danny is said to crave Black. I'd love a deal in which they get 8 & something, & we get 9 & Sexton.

Love it even more if we also get 16 in some more complicated deal.

Sexton is an undersized gunner. I thought we were going for longer and more athletic players. Doesn't mean he's coming here, but even shocked that we're (allegedly) in the mix. Hope that report is wrong. I'd rather go with the unknown and lose 60 games than go with the known and win 30.

A guy I wouldn't mind bringing in is Paul Reed. His numbers are pretty solid durng the year, and Rivers trusted him enough to give him playoff minutes. He looks like a good buy low candidate.

I like this idea. Paul for Simmons plus #21.

Yeah, I think taking on Ben Simmons for a high 20s pick is too much. Kemba (2 years 73 million)+16th pick that year+2025 2nd was traded for Horford (2 years 53 million (41 guaranteed). Boston got needed help and had to fork over a good pick to get off of Kemba (similar salary to Ben Simmons). CP3 is more valuable than Horford due to his expiring.

I'm asking for #21, #22 this year, Phoenix's FRP from 2027 and at least a pick from Philly. There has to be a Simmons tax in all this.

Yeah if this team is going to seek out cap flexibility so it can take on bad contracts with picks attached, you better start getting some big returns instead of settling for Simmons and #21.

I think the shrewdest thing to do is, unless you get an offer you can't refuse, is to remain financially agile until these new aprons set in. Some teams in their short term window to win the chip this upcoming year are going to overburden themselves and likely will be desperate to jettison bigger contracts. I like the idea of us feasting off of those opportunities, that's how we'll really rebuild some of our draft capital and young prospects.

I agree.
I'll be interested to see whether Philly re-signs him, or at least gives him a qualifying offer....

Simmons is going to be a UFA going into the 2025 season. I would consider it off the small chance he has a bounce back year and is seen as valuable again. Maybe add on Cam Thomas for sweetener.

The issue with soaking value out of the dead body of Ben Simmons is. In one year his contract becomes valuable as an expiring at the dead line. Now Brooklyn has incentive to not tank because they done own any of their picks for like 5-7 years. So! I would say.

Nets get Paul and shammet
Wiz get Joe Harris Gary Harris patty mills 11 22 and 36 and Philly 2027
Orlando gets Ben Simmons 8 and 21

Simmons’ deal is only 1 year longer than Paul’s.

Yeah but from all accounts, Simmons is a flake. I'm separating the mental health aspect of it, but we're not even sure if this kid will even play basketball anymore. Folks keep saying Beal has the worse contract in the NBA, yeah it's bad, but worse? At least the dude is going to show up and play. With Simmons we don't know, so yeah, if the Nets don't want the headache, they will have to pony up.

Why does Brooklyn care about dodging one extra year of that contract? Aren’t they rebuilding? They need all the assets they can get.

OutSmart & Raf are right. You cant paint yourself into a corner with Simmons contract for peanuts.
The league is going through a cleansing period right now before it resets. It's a 2-step process.
1) Clean up the books for 2 years as the new, punitive CBA is put in place.
2) Spend big money once the new TV deal hits in summer of 2025

Winger & Co are smart, which is why the Paul contract is so much better than someone like Herro or even Ayton.
Teams are going to spend big from 2025-27, but until then teams will pay to clean up the balance sheets.

The cost to get out of Simmons last year is either 21 or 22 minimum. The cost to get a starting caliber player instead of just filler is another 1st.
Simmons, 21, and 2027 PHX 1st is the minimum I would accept for Paul. And that assumes no other positive asset going out (Monte, Delon, etc.) AND it assumes that we project Simmons to be playable.

They aren’t really rebuilding because they don’t own their own picks until 2028. There’s no benefit to intentional losing. They also consider themselves a free agency destination, so clearing cap room is seen as a major plus. This trade would set them up for Summer 2024 when they would have just Bridges, DFS, Claxton’s cap hold, and 2 or 3 rookie contracts for a total payroll under $75M.

That's another thing, with a cultural reset here, do you really want Ben Simmons in here from Day 1 helping to set that new precedent? I'd say no.

Now of course, if Nets give us a great trade package, I'd be all for it, but you don't insert him in as a unknown variable without proper compensation. I don't need goody-two-shoes on this roster, but I expect that if you are paid handsomely that you show up to hoop and be professional. Simmons hasn't shown us any evidence he wants to do that for some time now.

I think you get the picks and figure it out. He'll have no pressure here, the only issue I would find is that he'll take advantage of it and not play. Like I said, it's a mental health thing, but look at Rui, he missed half a year of basketball after the Olympics. Would he have pulled that on the Lakers with a Lebron/AD on the team or would he have played?

In a perfect world, you get picks in a trade, he balls out here, nothing big, maybe something like 15/8/8 and then you flip him b/c some team will bite and you can get an asset out of it.

I don't agree, if the package is right, you take him on and figure it out. My point is you don't do it just for the 21st pick. Not worth the gamble. Hoping for 15/8/8 though? So you think he magically starts producing the same numbers basically as he did when he was an All-Star?

The Ben Simmons obsession on this board in like a anti-biotic resistant venereal disease.

Just say no. This is a guy that was trolling his old team, after his team just got swept with his ass on the bench. Simmons isn't a serious ball player, stop with the delusional thinking.
