I'm asking for #21, #22 this year, Phoenix's FRP from 2027 and at least a pick from Philly. There has to be a Simmons tax in all this.
Yeah if this team is going to seek out cap flexibility so it can take on bad contracts with picks attached, you better start getting some big returns instead of settling for Simmons and #21.
I think the shrewdest thing to do is, unless you get an offer you can't refuse, is to remain financially agile until this new aprons set in. Some teams in their short term window to win the chip this upcoming year are going to overburden themselves and likely will be desperate to jettison bigger contracts. I think the idea of us feasting off of those opportunities, that's how we'll really rebuild some of our draft capital and young prospects.
Simmons is going to be a UFA going into the 2025 season. I would consider it off the small chance he has a bounce back year and is seen as valuable again. Maybe add on Cam Thomas for sweetener.
OutSmart & Raf are right. You cant paint yourself into a corner with Simmons contract for peanuts.
The league is going through a cleansing period right now before it resets. It's a 2-step process.
1) Clean up the books for 2 years as the new, punitive CBA is put in place.
2) Spend big money once the new TV deal hits in summer of 2025
Winger & Co are smart, which is why the Paul contract is so much better than someone like Herro or even Ayton.
Teams are going to spend big from 2025-27, but until then teams will pay to clean up the balance sheets.
The cost to get out of Simmons last year is either 21 or 22 minimum. The cost to get a starting caliber player instead of just filler is another 1st.
Simmons, 21, and 2027 PHX 1st is the minimum I would accept for Paul. And that assumes no other positive asset going out (Monte, Delon, etc.) AND it assumes that we project Simmons to be playable.
