Highkin has been one of the most reasonable level-headed reporters all summer. If he’s pushing Zion, it’s seeming like the legs here may be for real.

I don't know, guys... I buy the George chatter. I hate it, but I buy it. Seems like something a desperate team would do. We don't want the Blazers to act from desperation, but what if they do?

Would you do a Zion trade?
I continue to think Charlotte's likely decision to pick Miller indicates they don't think Charlotte's
trade offer is hardly a can't say no offer.

there's a trade there that has Portland trading Ant, Nurkic, the 23rd pick plus Portland's 2024, 2026, & 2028 picks, UNPROTECTED, and the 2030 pick, top-4 protected....for the injury magnet known as Paul George

Ant, Nurk and 23 for George...wouldn't be a bad deal. I'd prefer to land someone a bit younger, but imagine if we do that, plus get Zion. That big 3 probably is a contender if it stays healthy.

They are, but I imagine Brooklyn is more likely because I think they're more likely to panic and overpay. Miami isn't going to make a stupid deal.

I think any PG trade he to involve 3 or Sharpe, and idk if I pay that price with his age.
Zion is just such a gamble. I would probably want 14 back especially when salary matching requires we use Ant and Nurkic (I guess Nas + Keon in place of Nurkic works).
Idk, so much to consider and no truly ideal path IMO.
Would all be much simpler if we just got #1 lol

PG can opt out next summer and I find it unlikely Portland would offer up 3 for a player
with an expiring contract with injuries.

I think zion is the best I've seen and even then it's a tough swallow with number 3 being on a rookie deal going into a tough cba
It's pure fantasy land bur imagine if the clips went full nuclear and we could somehow pull off kawhi and George

Not a Blazers fan, but Paul George would make you guys a legit threat. PG is about as good as a 2nd option you can get with Dame. I think that moves makes you a contender.

It'd depend on the other moves. I dont see us contending with Dame and pg unless sharpe takes a huge step forward or we get a third star

You don't need a 3rd star imo. Just fill out the depth. You can win a championship with 2 stars and role players. Only superteam right now is the Suns.PDXKnight wrote:JustBuzzin wrote:Tim Lehrbach wrote:I don't know, guys... I buy the George chatter. I hate it, but I buy it. I just like a Dame/PG pairing. 2 guys who can both get buckets down the stretch and PG is a 2 way wing who can play defense. I think Sharpe can be that 3rd scoring option.

I think you mean New Orleans… but I also disagree. I think Charlotte doesn’t want Zion even if he’s available. They’ve already had a young player with off court problems (granted… HUGELY different problems) or injury plagued stars.
Also, consider who’s the Hornets GM? Mitch Kupcheck, who drafted Ingram. They very clearly want BI and New Orleans would rather keep BI than Zion who’s been a problem for them and who’s never wanted to be there from the get go (there were rumors he didn’t want to go there after they won the lottery)…
So it’s not that their offer is bad, it’s that what NO wants to give up and what Charlotte want seem to be two different things. David Griffin has also had a complicated relationship with Zion. Just seems like timelines with all this are lining up. Zion and NO want to part ways and they want a piece the Blazers are willing to trade. Charlotte owners aren’t in place to make crazy big new-owner moves yet, so MJ and Mitch are still calling the shots and want youth players on rookie deals.
Portland wants different things than the Hornets, so the Pelicans and Blazers wants line up a lot better. Seems like it’s going to come down to if Zion wants to be in Portland and if his medicals (and mental) check out.

Zion would be close to NIKE which might be a factor with Zion if Phil ever manages to buy the Blazers

Miami has crappy assets. They have the expiring contract of Lowry and Oladipo. Probably Caleb Martin would be the only keeper. Robinson and Herro are close to albatross contracts; Herro is another player that has trouble staying healthy. There sure seem to be a lot of those
but mainly, Miami doesn't have a 1st round pick available till 2028. 5 years from now...for Dame....geeeezuzzz

I don’t hate the Dame PG pairing either. Less excited about that than Zion due to the age gap, but I do think PG and Dame fit better than PG and Kawhi. I also wonder if PG would be “healthier” (fight through minor injuries) more with the Blazers than he is on the Clippers (who are the load management poster children).
Not opposed to a PG idea, but would need to see the framework of a deal. Would love it more without the 3… maybe a group of future picks?

Re: Twitter Trade Rumor Roundup
Creating a PG trade that makes sense is difficult. I feel like Simons and the 3 is an overpay and we have to include Nurkic for salary matching purposes. I feel like that is a massive overpay for PG on his current contract at this stage in his career.
If I squint I can see a couple of options that I can talk myself into involving a third team to balance value.
Option 1: LAC - OKC - PDX
LA trades: PG, Zubac
LA receives: Simons, Dort, own picks returned from OKC
OKC trades: 12, LAC picks returned, Dort
OKC receives: 3, Nurkic, Little
Portland trades: 3, Simons, Nurkic, Little
Portland receives: PG, 12, Zubac
Option 2: LAC - ORL - POR
LA trades: PG
LA receives: 6, 23, Simons, Issac
Orlando trades: 6, 11 Issac, Harris
Orlando receives: 3, Simons, Nurkic
Portland trades: 3, Simons, Nurkic
Portland receives: 11, PG

Re: Twitter Trade Rumor Roundup
It'd be interesting to see which path this board wants Portland to take.
For me its clear, for the team has to follow the path that in their best interests.
Draft Scoot (assuming he wants to be here). Team builds around Scoot, Sharpe and perhaps Simons.
That might push Dame over the edge but things can get worse if their win now move player ends
up missing half of the games and Dame still ends up asking out.
What would be interesting if Scoot refuses to sign with Portland and demands to go to the Pelicans.
Would Portland pass on Scoot and trade down as opposed to trading for a veteran player?
Make the best trade for Dame if it comes down to it. Miami simply doesn't have the trade assets to
pull off a Dame trade. MIlwaukee likely would be on the list but also doesn't have any draft assets.
Brooklyn could pull it off if they are motivated, The Knicks are a possibility if the Nets are involved
and I wonder if there is another team that makes the list.
Trading the third pick for PG who is an expiring contract and turns 34 in 2024 is simply nuts. Zion is
a major health risk and Mikal Bridges is simply not available unless Portland grossly overpays.
