From Jake Fisher:

"The Wizards have already begun contacting opposing teams about trading Monte Morris, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Morris started at point guard alongside Bradley Beal last season after arriving from Denver in the 2022 offseason deal that brought Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to the champion Nuggets. There’s also a chance this trade with Boston and Memphis, and any subsequent deal surrounding veteran ball-handler Chris Paul, could become included in the Beal blockbuster with Phoenix that was agreed to last weekend. Phoenix and Washington have planned for that trade call to take place and be completed Friday, sources said, with Beal, reserve guard Jordan Goodwin and former second-round pick Isaiah Todd expected to fly to Phoenix and conduct their physicals"

Lakers

Timberwolves: Actually have a decent number of young prospects, no obvious filler to include from their end though. I guess Taurean Prince depending on how they feel about him.

Clips: Plenty of filler, the obvious trade to make with CP3

Cavs: Don't have any young prospects for trade so it would have to be draft capital, Ricky Rubio is the obvious choice for filler

Mavs: Don't have any young prospects for trade so it would have to be draft capital, maybe we take back Kleber

Lakers: Could we get Max Christie? Something like Tyus for Mo Bamba and Christie makes a lot of sense

Been calling for this trade all year long. It’s way too obvious.

Podziemski is off the board by 30 though. Meh. Maybe 30+35 gets you into the 20-24 range?

Can we trade Tyus and the 35 and our other second to the Mavs for their 10th?

If we couldn't even get a FRP for KP I don't think there's any chance we're getting #17 for Kuzma.
We have more leverage in that situation that KP because if the Lakers cant clear the space to sign kuz a trade is their only option.

How is that any different than the Celtics KP situation?

The Celtics could not sign KP without making a trade with us. The Lakers can not sign Kuzma without making a trade with us.

It's the exact same situation.

why would Dallas want 4 PGs when they have 2 of the best in Luka and Kyrie and a young Jaden Hardy

Delon wright is a better fit for them.
Send Morris to LAC for Covington & 30, then send Wright & Covington to Dallas for Bertans + 10.
I would be open to adding 30, but Bertans is pure suck and owed 5M next year too. Wright and Covington are perfect compliments to Kyrie & Luka.

It's not, KP was probably willing to walk else where this isn't free agency. What we do know is that he was gonna walk unless they moved him to the Celtics. So we had to do it or loose him for nothing. It was a chance to get a really solid player, two bench level vets, all of which can we traded for value at some point at the dead line and #35. Kuz is already gone. So if they ask for a sign and trade we can stick it to them or they loose kuz and we loose nothing cuz he's already gone. Beasley and Bamba are not gonna be Lakers next year either way you slice it. Soaking a pick out of them isn't unrealistic. More realistic is they trade for Chris Paul who is still worth that money. I'm sure christ Paul want to stay on this deal and get paid that money rather than trying to make it up else where.

I will say I agree w/the general sentiment that Deni and Kispert should probably be on the block at the deadline. Both are restricted free agents in '24 and '25 respectively and I think it's reasonable to assume that at least Kispert wants out. The team has been garbage the entire time they've been here and is about to plumb far worse depths in the coming 3-5 years. We should take our lesson/medicine from the Beal and Kuzma debacles, and max their value in trades sooner, rather than later.

Dude, what are you talking about? The fact that KP had an option and Kuzma doesn't is completely irrelevant.

KP had an option. If he opts out and walks, we lose him for nothing. If we make a deal, we get something.

Kuzma doesn't have an option. If we don't S&T him to a team, we lose him for nothing. If we make a deal, we get something.

I am telling you that you are factually wrong about this point, straight up. The fact that KP had an option does not matter. In both instances we are faced with the prospect of losing players for nothing unless we make a deal to move them to another team. KP having an option and Kuzma not having an option is a red herring. It has no bearing on what choices we are being faced with.

EDIT: Maybe explaining it this way will help:

If KP has an option, but is only going to opt in if we trade him to the Celtics, then we do not have any leverage. We can either lose KP for nothing, or move him to the Celtics. It's a Hobson's choice.

Kuzma does not have an option. If we do not S&T him to a team, the Lakers in this instance, we are going to lose him for nothing. It's also a Hobson's choice.

The player option isn't relevant.

It's not irrelevant. Because they both had player options Kuz dipped 4 days free agent bye! KP waited till the deadline and gave us an option to trade him or he walked for nothing. Kuz did walk for nothing. This notion of a S&T is silly because they are rare and hard to pull off. It's not the same the situations are totally different. Kuz walked from a 13 million $ deal to go get more money which there are probably teams that will give him that money. KP was on 36 Millon $ deal and was more or less awhere that the temperature for giving him a long term deal was cold. Agents know things we don't. There are conversations in backs that we don't hear about. Kuz opting out tells something KP not opting out tells us something.

Winnger and the boys probably had talk with both. Hey guys can you not opt out can work on trade can you work with us. Kuz listening to his agent said naw I know the moneys out there I'm out. KP listening to his agent said I'll give you till the deadline too the deadline to get something good for me or I'm opting out.

Boston came in and wanted him, was willing to take that contract and I assume probably extend him. Probably a better deal than he's flyer on the open market worked with us and got a pretty solid deal out of someone who was out the door at midnight.

The difference is Kuz walked, he didn't choose to work with us and get somewhere who wanted to pay him. So if he comes around later and asks us to help him out to get to a team who doesn't have the money to pay him, say the Lakers. The leverage comes in here. Oh now you need our help? Huh well now it's gonna cost ya. Because if that's the only way they can get him we have leverage and the long we stall the less money is out there for him cuz teams don't wait they will sign someone else. So if they don't play ball with us they don't get him and he loses out on who knows how much money.

The situation is different because KP never left, he stuck around and worked it out, so we won't know what the situation would have been of he opted out.

Kuz did bounce so I'd the situation comes back around we have leverage.

I don't get this move for a rebuild. Makes no sense unless they are unloading him again. The contract is 4 years at $128M.
