I wouldn't worry about Tyus free agency, If we offered a starting spot I don't see him re-signing anywhere else.

Morris or Wright aren't enough of an upgrade for me.

If the Wolves offer him a starting spot, he's going to want to be compensated as such, more than his current amount of $14M for the upcoming season.

Terrible long-term move though talent wise moving Poole for one season of CP3.

I know it looks terrible on the surface to see a guy with Beal's scoring ability moved for so little.
But he has missed a LOT of games to injury in his career, and 50+ million/year is a lot of money, especially for a team not going anywhere for the next 2-3 years. They were smart to move off of it while the relationship was still amicable and before it became a divorce.

I'm pretty sure Poole wasn't in GSW longterm plans.

ORL drafted Black, now they have Fultz, Suggs, Black and Anthony at PG/SG slot. Maybe TP and three second round picks for Suggs will be enough?

Yes, barely. The sites I use haven’t updated their future picks yet, but I think after we used the 2026 UTA 2nd and our 2028, we don’t own any of our own future 2nds until 2029, but we have three left from other teams

2024 2nd (least favorable of MEM/WAS)
2025 2nd UTA
2026 2nd (least of IND/MIA/SA)

I also wanted to mention that getting future 2nds might be easier to do with Tim Connelly, on deals around the edges.

One of the consequences of having so much money tied up into a handful of players means that our team will need to carry several young, cheap players, and some of them will get minutes. This will be an opportunity for Connelly to show that he picked some winners, and trade them for 2-3 future 2nds before we need to pay them more. This keeps our payroll low, and feeds more 2nds in for Connelly to use, and that engine monetizes Connelly’s scouting advantage.

As fans, try not to get too attached to any young kid that impresses (like I already am with Minott!)

With the draft out of the way, the real fun beings. 3 of the teams we compete with had up their ante. Wondering if we could go after DeRozan with a package of KA, Prince, JMcl, Moore, and Minott. I think the salary works. Alternatively, wait for his buyout but he will likely go to the Lakers.

What other trade or free agent signing could help us? Let's leave Towns/Gobert out of this one because we already had enough of it.

I think it would be really hard to come up with a trade that improves us greatly, because we don’t have the trade value or the salary-matching to do much of anything.

If we leave Towns and Gobert out of it, then the next two big pieces are Ant and Jaden, and I think they are the two players we’d most hate to trade. The next two pieces are Kyle Anderson and Mike Conley, and they are both more valuable to us than other teams, because they make the rest of the team so much better, and we need to keep moving forward and getting Ant playoff experience.

Our trade options are Prince, sign-and-trades with Naz or NAW, Minott and WMJ, now Leonard Miller and Jaylen Clark, and a limited number of future 2nds. We also potentially have the MLE and two TPE’s. Kind of boring stuff.

Real growth in the team is going to have to come internally, and I’m optimistic we’ll get it from Ant and Jaden. I also expect we’ll get better with the team having a chance to learn to play together, especially with Mike Conley here, and better injury luck.

Pritchard might be too small for TC. He seems very focused on having good size for your position.

I’ve always liked Wright’s fit. He’s not a great creator, but he’s a good 3-and-D equivalent, and if Ant grows into a playmaker, he’s the type of guard that could work well.

The problem I see is next year. Wright’s 31, and he signed his deal last year, so he’d be ineligible to be extended right now. Next year, we’d have that same DLo problem - we’d need him to come back with his Bird rights, because we’d have no good way to add a starting PG. The taxpayer MLE will only be $5 mil for a free agent, so Wright would have all the leverage in a contract negotiation.

I think Monte Morris is the right call. I’d love Tyus, but he can’t sign an extension either, so his future and the Wolves could be a problem. Morris is a different, but comparably skilled PG to the other two, who can be extended right now. I’m sure WAS doesn’t want to have extension talks with him all year, and they’d start Tyus (which he wants), and Wright could back him up and expire
