Re: Rate the Dick Pick
Still can't believe Gradey Dick is a Raptor. This an easy A++ grade for me.

Anyone who says this pick points toward running it back knows nothing about Gradey and has no clue how high his upside is. Just remember I was one of the only people who said Franz Wagner had high upside back when he was called a high floor pick in 2021 (maybe people dismissed that take because of my Michigan bias). The "he can't defend" posts are completely laughable too. A lot of posters are running their mouths saying "high floor, low ceiling" and it's clear they know absolutely zilch about this guy.

Kyle Korver had a 17 year career in which he shot 43 percent from 3 and made the all-star team.

You have to like it, we are probably the only team that has not add that threat from 3. If he can reach prime-Duncan-Robinson level, I would be more than happy. We have badly needed that kind of player. I would have felt better had he been a jumpshooter.

Agreed. I think he actually has a high ceiling and was BPA. Most of the critiques are baseless. See a white player and assume he is a one dimensional shooter.

He's got some Korver hair stylin' going on too. We've yet to field a White guy with a nice flowing coiffe. He's got a 1970s look to him.

I like the pick. He's an elite shooter and his defense isn't going to be elite, but I don't think teams will head hunt him.
Scottie, OG, Dick is a nice core to build around.

How does a potential elite shooter not fit on this roster?
If Fred & Yak return, Trent off bench, mix in Achiuwa/Boucher. He's going to be a 15 minute bench guy just by default. That is the current situation, who knows if trades occur or further changes.
What player was going to be more than a 15 minute bench guy? That is just the reality for the vast majority of non top 5ish rookies.
Assuming FVV/Jak are back, we go FVV/OG/Siakam/Barnes/Poeltl and off the bench bring Dick/GTJ/OPJ/Achiwua/Boucher. Personally I would bet we do a Boucher trade for a backup PG (Washington for Delon or Morris makes sense to me) which gives Koloko some minutes. (other option is Thad + 2nd's for Delon or Morris)
FVV/Morris(Delon)/Dowtin
OG/GTJ
Barnes/Dick/
Siakam/OPJ
Poeltl/Achiwua/Koloko
Is actually a decently well rounded roster. You have the ability to go 6'9 with Barnes/OG/Siakam/OPJ/Achiwua, more traditional with FVV/GTJ/OG/Siakam/Poeltl, small/shooters with FVV/GTJ/Dick/OG/Siakam, "big" with Barnes/OG/OPJ/Siakam/Poeltl

Very happy with the pick. It fills a glaring need on the team, and he is not just a decent 3pt shooter, but could actually be elite. In terms of those worried about his D, the Raps lineup can easily surround him with defenders to help cover those deficiencies.
What I'm really excited about is what his presence on the floor (if he is in fact an elite shooter) will do for other players shooting percentages. If he is drawing more attention from the D that will create more open looks for others, and hopefully improve their shooting percentages.

Really happy to see him go to GS. If he is going to develop and unlock his potential anywhere there isn't a better spot.

A top 10 guy fell because Wemby helped Coulibaly raise his value. I'll tell you right now that Dick will be better than him. If you watch a full Coulibaly game you would see why he was a projected late 1st / early 2nd.
Realistically, if he wasn't on Wemby's team would he have gone this high?

the current roster doesn't even matter much when you draft a 19 year old. When he's in his prime, the roster will be completely different anyways. Probably more important that he meshes with a guy like Barnes.

The Howard pick helped us a lot too. I much rather prefer Dick to Bufkin.

From '22 draft, there are at least 15 guys who got 15+ MPG after top 5. I get the automatic argument style on this board, but this is bordering on ridiculous at this point.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

Yeah you always draft BPA and worry about fit later (I would argue you do that with trades, free agency, everything UNLESS you are a contender right now).
The roster is starting to fill out though. We won 48 games with FVV/GTJ/OG/SIakam/Barnes/Boucher/Precious and we still have that core plus Poeltl/Dick/OPJ/Koloko/???. The expectations for this team this year should be high. We had our lull last year but now there have been changes and in theory we should be better. If not, this is the last dance and we likely go tank in 2024-25 and build around a Barnes/Dick/Koloko/GTJ

Reminds me a bit of Lauri Markkanen when he started in the league. He moves as well as him. Slight, tall (obviously shorter), lights out shooter. Obvious smarts. He' ll be good. Markkanen could not defend worth a lick and made strides. Gradey has a wider range of game than most you'd get at 13 in most years if you targeted shooting skill foremost.

Dunleavy said that Podziemski was "much higher" than 19 on GSW's board and that he was thrilled the way things turned out.
Podz has the ability to score in a wider variety of ways than Dick and is a more intelligent defender. I also believe that while Gradey has a very good compete level, Podz is an absolute maniacal competitor who is obsessed with greatness. He also has only been playing for 6 years and has more upside if his trajectory keeps its course. I think the Raps messed up taking Dick over Podz but it's whatever. I'm just happy they took a guy who to me projects to be a useful piece and not a guy like JHS or some of the other scrubs mocked to us.
