That thought had occurred to me too - if the Wolves like Black, they have enough salary filler and interesting pieces to make a deal if they were so inclined.

Houston, Portland, and Orlando - I think all 3 (in that order) could put together a KAT package that I'd really like.

Based on what you and gandlogo have been discussing, would this be enough of a return from ORL to pull the trigger:

ORL in: KAT
MIN in: WCJ, Suggs & Black

To me that would be horrific return for KAT.

What if WCJ was swapped out for Wagner?

Orland fans would scream they aren't trading Wagner for Towns. I think the owners and coaches that make the decisions would make that trade. For me it would depend on if either Jaden or Wagner could play the pf position long term, neither are good rebounders.

Good points. I think Wagner is more suited for PF than Jaden but they both currently lack the strength to play there full time.

It would be better. I just don't think we need to trade KAT. We have a very talented team as is and I'm totally fine with running it back. Yes we need to find a backup PG with potential to be a starter.

At this point, unless we get a ridiculous offer for Kat or Rudy I don't think we should move either. Again there's always the chance that something had been agreed to off record and is just waiting until closer to when the deal can actually be done.

Unless we traded Towns, we have very little to offer for a big minute back up PG this year that we would want starting next year. Prince, and three future 2nds are about the only things in our disposal chest, so how about some out of the box thinking?

Would you trade Wendell Moore Jr?

Josh Minott?

Naz Reid sign-and-trade?

All depends on who the target is. Moore jr, absolutely. Minott, big maybe.

It would take Prince and WMJ to salary match Tyus Jones $14 mil salary, and it would bring us $4.2 closer to the lux.

I’m starting to think WMJ is another low-value asset we could use, but cheap players on rookie scale will be needed when we get expensive. His trade value might rise if we wait too, if he starts to get minutes in our depleted guard rotation.

Yes, on Wendell Moore Jr.

No, on Miniott and Reid.

But what is that going to get you Moore is just a throw in player?

Prince Moore and a second is the answer as far as the most I'd be willing to give up. Minott would require a legit prospect with promise. I would probably do Minot for Nembhard

Or you play him out of any value.

I think he has the ceiling of a bench role-player and he really isn't there yet and he was an older prospect. I think putting him in a deal isn't giving something you can't replace. Pretty much a crummy pick.

As you said it all depends on the target. I have a hard time coming up with many options that cost more than Prince+2nds and could be had by adding Moore or Minott. I think a Reid sign-and-trade would be extremely difficult to pull off.

Pretending that Minnesota offered Taurean Prince, Jordan McLaughlin, and three seconds for Tyus Jones (can add Nate Knight if the 110% CBA match hard-cap threshold counts for low-salary trades), here is the salary outlook.

Mike Conley Jr. / Tyus Jones
Anthony Edwards / Nickeil Alexander-Walker (RFA)
Jaden McDaniels / Josh Minott / Wendell Moore Jr.
Karl-Anthony Towns / Kyle Anderson / Leonard Miller
Rudy Gobert / Naz Reid (FA)

$17.4MM to resign Naz Reid and Nickeil Alexander-Walker. 12/15 roster spots filled.

Realistically, I do not think that Naz Reid is coming back to Minnesota. He will likely be afford the opportunity to start elsewhere, and will seize that opportunity. If that happens, I think the Tyus Jones route is a lot more plausible.

don't mind Tyus at all, but Wolves need more "16 game players" as Draymond calls them, in particular at guard/wing positions

players that at least have a chance of elevating their game in a playoff series, Tyus isn't that, definition of a "82 game player"

I think Cole Anthony would the player that I would bet on being able to do that, from the guys that are potentially available

What do people think Killian Hayes would cost? I'm curious to see perceived value. How about Jalen Suggs? Will Suggs be more expensive than Anthony?

My guess is Hayes would cost almost nothing, he's been terrible for 3 years and shown little improvement. Suggs Is a guy I'd like to go after, but it would likely take a mid 1st to get him (something the Wolves don't have). I'd pass on Anthony since I'm not a big fan of his game (undersized with streaky shooting and poor defense).

Cole is a one of the best rebounding guards in the league, his size will be a defensive issue always, but rebounding his position at elite level is a good tradeoff

I think Cole is a guy that gets played off the floor in the playoffs. I'm really hoping that whoever ends up as the Wolves long term PG is a guy that wouldn't be an obvious target for opposing offenses.
