Cam Whitmore who had been projected top 5 pick falling kinda changes plans. Jett Howard who had been projected late teens-20s being taken by the Magic at 11 also shifted the board.

And Jett Howard taken at 11 baffled a lot of people...draft experts alike.

I feel like he fell for two reasons:
1. In that range, this draft was fairly stacked with good prospects
2. He wasn’t the most ‘exciting’ player and it is very easy to look at him as a high floor, low ceiling shooter (there’s a pretty strong perception that this is all there is to him)

Darko’s approach of trying to get guys to break out of their prematurely perceived ‘roles’ will benefit him on this team.

So no, I am not concerned about this.

And truth be told...Gradey was always projected mid to late lottery and that is exactly where he was taken...so this isn't unusual.

Aside from Howard, the other players project as probably plus defenders in NBA. Other than that, its not that unusual and Dick went in his projected range anyways. The question is more valid as to why Orlando passed on him.

Dallas and OKC passing is surprising, but otherwise all those teams were looking for the next big talent. Our team not so much, we’re plugging holes and Gradey is a great fit there.

Most mock drafts had Gradey at 10/11. Coulibaly went higher than projected, as did Jett Howard. The Mavs may simply have had Lively ranked higher, especially if they were looking at needs. So no, nothing strange at all. If anything Toronto got lucky that he dropped to 13.

NBA.com actually maintained a consensus ranking, aggregating 9 of the biggest sites (Athletic, ESPN etc. - they list them all) for an average score. Gradey came in at 11, so you're right, Raps were lucky he was there:
