Not only that.. but to a team that has Green , Amen , KPJ for the SG slot already.

So the big moves HOU did with their massive capspace is throw a ridiculous amount to FVV and Dillon for their starting backcourt?

That could have been us. :o

Yeah... imagine if that was us giving fvv that contract. Yikes.

I forgot they also signed Mills and have fan fave Cam??? What the heck is going on over there?

Can we trade enough picks and be left with a Embiid/Paolo/Franz/Herro/AB starting lineup?

That’s how bad things may get in Philly.

I think they would do for some first but as they are both young I just don't see Portland immediately trading anyone of these guys. I am certain they will keep both and make a decision next offseason.

Eh I’m not so sure they’re in as bad of a spot as it looks. They’ve got a ton of rookie deals and now they’re set on hitting cap floor. Need to see the years guaranteed and that will change things

They’ve got a lot of young, untamed offensive talent. They just added tough, 2-way vets and a tough-minded coach. They could make a huge jump with FVV driving and Brooks getting a reality check. Brooks is a really talented defender…I was hoping he cost himself a LOT of money with his WWE villain BS last season…I’m afraid he got a big deal too quickly to be sufficiently humbled. Hopefully Udoka gets him under control. They could be really good, although it’s tough to gain ground in the West.

Taking out the fact that they wildly overpaid their veterans, I actually like what Houston did in terms of who they added.

They added VanVleet, Brooks, Mills and Landale to a group of young guys.

G: VanVleet, Amen
G: Green, Porter
F: Brooks, Whitmore
F: Smith, Eason
C: Sengun, Landale

That's a nice mix of intriguing youth and grimy vets.

Houston to me looks like prime candidate for Giannis trade after next season :dontknow:

I was going to say the biggest concern with Houston is they committed before they know if they have a star or not. Then I remembered they don't have their own draft pick this season, so let 'er rip!

I like Houston's signings (not the price) but i woudnt call this balanced, when the only + passer on the whole roster are the Center & and maybe a rookie PG. Even the defensive specialist (Brooks) is trigger happy. They dont have as much position log jam as us but stylistically & BBIQ wise, this team is still a mess (knuckleheads, gunners, non passers). 4 of the 5 players in the starting 5 shot under 42% last season from the field. At least one of the Low IQ gunner in Cristopher is gone now.

They have some nice veterans now, but the important players that define their ceiling (Green, Jabari, Amen, Eason, Sengun) are still the same flawed players that I rate lower than ours & I'm definitely no one who overrates Magic players.
There's still a good chance Houston will succeed sooner than us because they'll probably try to trade for one or more stars in the next few years, unlike our risk-averse FO.

You can make argument that teams don't gear up to tank because 2024 draft has early reviews of one of the worst drafts in 2 decades.

As far as Houston goes, Western conference teams , especially ones based in Texas, can't afford to suck for ages.

Houston has history of sustained sucess that is 40 years long. Having two disaster seasons in a row is simply too much for them.

Brooks deal is baffling to me, not because of Brooks but because of money he got, where Vleet seems to be person that will get traded eventually in 2024-25 or 2025-26 , if for nothing else, for massive expiring money.

Porter, imo, will be traded at trade deadline this year, if not even this summer

Career FG% by starter
FVV 40%
Green 42%
Brooks 41%
Jabari 41%
Sengun 52%

That's gotta be the lowest starting lineup FG% of the last 25 years...granted they will shoot a lot of 3s.

I liked the FVV signing. Thought it smart and the money didn't matter, FVV is good, not $43M good, but they had to get to the salary floor. Some of the other signings didnt really make sense to me.

Just saw Dallas signed Dante Exum. Was even more surprised to see that over 90 games the last two years in Europe he has been shooting 45% from 3 and 88% from the line ...69% True shooting....which is a remarkable number for a guard.

There's hope for non-shooting guards everywhere...maybe...

A lot of good appearances in summer league. George, Chet, Jovic, and Jaime all played well. A little disappointed in Miller. But it's all one game.

This situation highlights Riley's downfall as a GM, he does have a tendency to overpay his players.

Miami is the best in the league at finding hidden gems like they have literally over and over with Adebayo (all star at pick 14), Duncan(undrafted), Herro in late lottery(20ppg scorer at pick 13), and just finding all these guys over the years like Whiteside who was out of the league, Tyler Johnson(undrafted) and even Birdman back in the day.

And the Miami market is great at always attracting stars. These factors have kept them competitive over the years.

But now that they have a real chance to become a true contender and bring in Dame, they are being held back by these deals they gave Herro, Robinson and Lowry. Lowry is being paid $30 million per year and was backing up Vincent in the playoffs.
California Gold wrote:This is extra because people hate the Lakers and their brand so much.

This trade wasn't some conspiracy - it was just a GM wanting AD bad enough where in most people's eyes he overpaid by a long shot to get him.

i dont know that it is the deal they gave Herro, so much as Portland already has their SG of the future, thats why they dont want Herro. Lowry was overpaid, but he expires. They were in a title run. But i do say they paid Herro a little too much and paid Duncan Robinson hoping he would make that next step which he didnt. he did show a little more to his game in the playoffs, but at 29, not sure how much more he develops.

It is not our M.O., but if we wanted to skip steps and start contending, we could offer young talent on cheap deals, expiring contracts and multiple 1sts.

Suggs, WCjr, Fultz, JI, Bol Own unprotected 2024, 2026 and Den 25 for Embiid and PJ Tucker?

AB/Cole
G.Harris/Jett/K.Harris
Franz/Jingles/Houstan
Paolo/PJ Tucker
Embiid/Goga/MoW

A serious injury to Embiid could be brutal in the unprotected years, but how good could this team be with a healthy Embiid?

top 2 or 4 seed as early as next year?

The comments here. Wow.

So many casuals have no appreciation for how good pros (in any sport) really are. You people think you’re walking into an NBA game and scoring 15 points??

I hope people here have a better sense of reality.
