Lol that's like saying if you swapped Trae Young with Dame, he could've accomplished the same things, which he has. Trae actually won a couple games in the conference finals against the eventual champs, while Dame got has ass swept off the floor against a KD-less Warriors team. There's winners and losers in life, buddy. Steph is a winner. Dame is not.
It frustrates me how we do this for great players. It lacks all context. Lillard was riding with McCollum, Powell and Nurkic while Steph had Klay, Wiggins and Draymond there's a huge defensive gap between those top 3 teammates.
A players situation always matters when it comes to winning. But to me talent is talent, it's just a matter of what team/coach is harnessing that talent. If a team has no knowledge or ability to build a team around Dame that's the fault of the organisation not Dame.
For example, Jimmy Butler didn't win anything before coming to Miami. Was he not a winning player? Ultimately if a player that can do the things Dame can then he will be a winning player in the right situation. Miami would be that situation for Dame.
But who was Trae Young riding with when he took 2 games as the 5 seed in the ECF? (and Steph didn't have Wiggins yet when they swept the Blazers in the WCF)
You are right I had the wrong year this was the year when Dame's starting lineup was Lillard/McCollum/Harkless/Aminu/Kanter and Golden state had Curry/Thompson/Iggy/Draymond/Looney
My point still stands I'd argue Dame's teams even worse that year. Portland lost in 4 games but one game they lost by 2pts and another they lost by 3. Also as others have mentioned Lillard was playing injured during that GS series reporting said he had a separated rib in game 2 after Looney landed on him
To your Trae Young point. They won 2 games total in that series and beat them in game 1 by 3 points and Trae Young went off scoring 48pts. The 2nd game that they won they beat Milwaukee by 22pts and Trae Young didn't play. So not sure that really proves anything, winning 1 game in the ECFs/WCFs doesn't prove that you are more or less of a winning player then someone who has won none at that level.

Dame would be a boon here. He's a phenomenal fit alongside Bam and Jimmy.
My best guess at the outgoings from our end would be Herro, Lowry, Jovic and a couple FRP's.
I think we keep Martin and Jaquez out of the deal, but I can't see a world we can retain Nikola unfortunately.
PG - Lillard / Dragic? / Bouyea (2-way)/ Smith (2-way)
SG - Richardson / D. Robinson
SF - Butler / Jaquez / Cain / Audige (2-way)
PF - Love / Martin / FA PF
C - Adebayo / Bryant / O.Robinson
Feels like we'd need to go hunting for additional 2/3/4. Perhaps someone like Ben McLemore/Terrence Ross as a bench shooter, and it could be someone like Winslow/Bazley/Oubre/Wood at the 4.
Or we look for further trades to fill holes - e.g. Caruso from Chicago could be someone we target.

For what it’s worth, spo is always in portland in the summer. Lived there for 10 years and it’s nothing new to see him in portland. He’s from there.

Don't forget Highsmith. I feel like Winslow burnt his bridge here. Oubre would've been nice for a 6th man role if he wasn't such a black hole. I think even if we add Lillard we still need bench scoring. I'd definitely be down for Ross/Barton and Wood.

Knew I was forgetting someone. Yes, Highsmith clearly fits into the rotation at the 4 slot.
You might be right re: Winslow, given there was some acrimony around his injury at the time. Wood seems to be a cancerous player, so i'm not sure he's a fit. Too much Whiteside in him, even if on paper he would be handy.
Definitely feel we need a veteran backup 1, 2 and 4 though as insurance.

If we are able to do this trade with it only costing Jovic and our 2028 and 2030 FRPs then that would be awesome. We'd have Dame/Butler/Bam/Caleb/Jaquez as our core and still get our 2024 and 2025 picks to add over the next two years.
Honestly we won't even remember Jovic once next season starts.

Why is Nurkic considered a bad asset? He's still, a above average starting C with good defense/above average passing/scoring and can actually play the likes of Embiid/Jokic one on one without being physically outmatched if anything he's a great fit in Miami. I hate the guy but a double-double in under 30mins and nearly 3 assists and close to 1 steal and 1 block per game for 17mil per season is a great deal even with injuries. You only need him healthy for the playoffs and can rest him throughout the year to combat Embid/Joker/Davis.

He's considered slow on defense and past his best days. We play a fast style. Maybe he could do the old Leonard Meyers/ spacer role but im not sure he hits threes

He's got way quicker feet than Love/Zeller/Dedmon/Yurt or whatever is backing Bam up and you can ran the offense through him in the 2nd unit. The Heat played a super slow half court style in a lot of the playoff games as well. Bam also would be way less worn down you could play him like 30-32mins a game with Nurkic there and you could match him up with the supersized HW C's and move Bam to PF at times.

If that is the case, miami would welcome him with open arms. I'm not sure it is the case, Nurk has battled to return from some tough breaks. If he's too slow he will lose time to the Highsmith

I wonder if we can figure out a way to do this trade and find a way you get either Delon Wright or TJ McConnell back or possibly free up enough cap room under the 2nd apron to be able to use our TPE to get Wright.

Re: Miami Heat Offseason Thread 8.0 - 47 cRonin and the inevitable seppuku
If we are doing a deal with BKN and they are sending out DFS and O'Neale. If Portland are taking DFS we should try see if Washington or Indy would swap O'Neale for Wright or McConnell.
Lillard/Wright or McConnell/Bouye
Robinson/JRich/Audige
Butler/Jaquez/Cain
Love/Martin/Highsmith
Bam/Bryant/Robinson
I'd feel much better about that roster. We wouldn't have much use for O'Neale if we are keeping Jaquez and Martin.
Would prefer McConnell if Robinson is starting and prefer Wright if JRIch is starting.

Actually scratch that I forgot Detroit traded for Monte Morris. We've been rumored to be looping DET into this deal previously.
POR get Lowry, DFS, Jovic, 3-4FRPs
BKN get Herro
MIA get Lillard and Morris
DET get O'Neale
