Counterpoint:

Jrue Holiday (45/30/72 in college)
Kyle Lowry (47/22/63 freshman year)
"J"ason Kidd (become a late career shooter)
Mike Conley (51/30/70 in college)
Kawhi Leonard (45/20/72 in college

There are a decent number of examples from people I can remember - and these are examples of all-stars or superstars that became above average to elite shooters.

I can find a lot more examples of rotational or really good players who also have improved from being below average-bad to just average-slightly above average, which is probably more along the lines of what you will see from Black.

if you're expecting him to turn into Curry or something though, then yeah, obviously he will fall very short.

I feel like the majority of these rookies need more summer league playing time.

Some are playing, others are getting pulled. I hope AB and Jett play.

Did our coach/GM/anyone actually say to the media why they are not playing him?

He doesn't have to. It's obvious he lacks NBA level skill.

Apparently, according to a journalist close with Sotto's camp, Sotto will have playing time tonight vs. the Blazers. Not sure if 1 minute or 10 minutes, but for the sake of your social media team i hope it happens just so my fellow Filipinos shut up. This will ensure a maximim hits and traffic traction for the Magic socials too before it falters off after not signing Kai this offseason.

i hope he plays well obviously and gets the attention of the scouts, not necessarily from the Magic, and great warmup before his introduction to the world in the FIBA World Cup this August.

It's hard NOT to see that unless you're doing it intentionally.... You'd think after what we've been through it would've taught us some patience

I've not researched this but how common is it for top 6 picks to start out as third stringers? And when they do, what are the circumstances?

not sure but i'd be interested in the result of such a query

Half-broken-hearted, i agree. But you have to understand where this country is coming from; we do not have 7 footers growing on trees. He is our best prospect that actually has a (little bit of) shot in trying out for the NBA, the best in the world. Him making the summer league is seen as a "success story" already, for how low the standard is for our probable stars.

Sotto did play well against the Phoenix Suns in an exhibition game by the Adelaide 36ers last year so some fans remember this and just want to see him get that chance again.

Again, i agree, i don't think he has an NBA level talent. It will take a lot of development to get there and Sotto is running out of time.

So that said, i hope he goes nuclear for at least a single game, with whatever minutes given to him vs. the Blazers in a summer league, maybe that can be the start of something.

If our best passers are gonna be sitting this one out AND this is the game that kai finally gets to play, then he is gonna look scrubbier than ever.

UNBELIEVABLE that a consensus top-10 guy (and A LOT had him top 5), fell to 20.
