he got hurt on defense tho.
The "issues" in the playoffs is that we often play a predictable style. Teams don't really have time to scout it out like that and put it to work in the regular season...they do in the playoffs. The whole year we ate off of the simple ass PNR behind the back pass to Biid at the nail. There were no wrinkles on that play. I am no basketball genius but I already knew how it would go... teams would dare Harden to drive or take the middy..the former he couldn't make layups and the latter he didn't want to do as often. The times the pass got to Biid, the Celtics would either swarm him or due to the double big the threat of the drive wasn't as scary (Biid playing like a hoe did not help mind you) and Horford, the bitch he is, is smart enough to time his contests and with a gimpy Biid he got even less lift and thus owned via blocks a few times which further through off his rhythm. Thats the schematic reason why we loss IMO.
The team cannot rely on one play to be the whole offense, they cannot rely on their 7ft center to get iso buckets with no movement off ball thus making it so teams can just swarm him as his handle is often sloppy and his passing is often a beat too late, there needs to be variety and even if Biid "has" to be involved in that variety..it cannot be as predictable as it has been...even if that is what Biid wants...he loss that privilege lol.
Too often this franchise has over done their approach..be it Brett's DHO fetish, Doc's iso fetish, Post up Fetish, PNR fetish. There needs to be an actual game plan with moving parts.
One thing that also needs to die is those possessions with Biid at the top of the key as the offense hub...enough of that lol.
Things suck right now but I don't think they are unfixable regarding Biid. He might be sawft. He may have loser energy. He may not have dat dawg in him. He is however supremely talented and I think you can build a system that not only gets him to the playoffs healthy, but one that makes it difficult for teams to just take him out via gameplans. The final two teams had systems in which they made it very hard to take away everything. To beat the Heat the plan is obviously to just stop Jimmy... that became harder when Jimmy wasn't always on ball, they had creators at every spot. Shooters (albeit ones probably shooting above their talent IMO) that could shoot stand still, off the bounce, and one the move. They even had Bam bringing the ball up. That made it hard for the double big to work. It made it hard for them to just stick their best defenders on Jimmy. Then you have the Nuggets, in which the best plan of action was to just let Jokic eat...but thats hard to do because of their movement, their secondary creators, and their shooting. Too often the gameplan against us is the Nick Nurse special, "he's good at basketball...go get him". And that works because the team just stands there and hope Biid keeps making those tough contested shots. Again this does not absolve Biid of his hoery lol. But I think only like Primer Jordan would be able to constantly thrive in such a spot...even then idk. This does not even take into consideration the fact that Biid is also the guy who has to put out fires on the other end too.
I just think the approach we have had has been too rigid. This is from top down too. The FO babied Ben AND Biid for too long and never brought in guys who forced them out of their comfort zones..and when they did..the FO got shook and let him walk. the coaches have been to stubborn to ever try new ****. And the players only want to play a certain way or else they might get their fee fees hurt. Ideally Nurse being a maniac fixes the coaching aspect. Darryl is too bust trolling for likes on twitter and the fact that Biid said he was working on his ball handling doesn't fill me with confidence he gets it either...but still.
