Then why not take a Clippers deal now? You're effectively getting the same thing in return.

What’s this “reality” that you speak of? How about the “reality” of the actual players who played against him?

Defense is tough to measure through metrics and stats. Do you think you know more about defense than the actual players that had to play against Bradley?

Yea, I'm sure Morey wanted to trade for Haliburton instead of Harden. Uh huh

Both Morey and Nurse sound as if they expect a different team during the season with a good running mate for Embiid, and it’s not Maxey.

From this quote it appears that Morey's plan is exactly what I was hoping it would be. Patience, and cap space and flexibility next summer.

I think he’s basically being forced in to that since no one is ponying up for Harden. If a player like Lavine or Derozan were on the table for James… best believe they’d be a Sixer right now.

Simmons was useless, as he wound up proving.

I believe Morey had his eyes set on reuniting with Harden the whole time and is now trying to save face due to their apparent fractured relationship.

https://www.si.com/nba/76ers/news/tyrese-haliburton-recalls-rumors-of-sixers-trade-interest#:~:text=Haliburton%20turned%20out%20to%20be,All%2DStar%20out%20in%20Brooklyn

https://clutchpoints.com/pacers-news-tyrese-haliburton-thought-hed-be-traded-to-sixers-in-ben-simmons-package

So Haliburton thought the Sixers were going to trade for him and contacted Niang (who he is good friends with) to let him know he'd be joining the team, yet Morey is saying the deal was never on the table? Doesn't make sense.

What’s him calling Niang have to do with anything that was actually going on lol. I’m sure he was hearing all the rumors just like we were. It’s possible Morey is lying to save face, but considering what Haliburton actually went for and how everything played out, I don’t think he is.

Morey has no interest in taking on long term deals like Lavine by the sounds of it.

Because they are friends and he contacted him because he thought he was joining the team. He wouldnt have been thinking that if the trade was never on the table as Morey is saying.

"Haliburton, who is friends with Philly forward Georges Niang because they both played for Iowa State, facetimed him on that Thursday morning and initially thought he was getting moved to the Sixers. However, in a matter of seconds, the Pacers playmaker was receiving a call from the Kings GM."

Yes I do, prior to his fall from grace Ben was valued higher than him.

Morey just had a hard on for Harden.

Doesn't matter now, but I wanted Haliburton back then and it will forever go down as a colossal mistake not trading for him. Add that to the list of $hit moves this franchise has continued to make since and before I even started following them.

Simmons was absolutely not rated higher than Sabonis after that Atlanta series which is the timeframe we’re discussing.

At least nowhere other than possibly this board.

Having said that, it's possible that a Haliburton trade wasn't available because Morey was asking for way too much in addition. I don't believe that a 1-for-1 (plus filler) was ever offered.

That's exactly what it was. He was willing to trade Ben to Sacramento either for Fox and haliburton which was ludicrous. Or the Hield package with draft compensation.

All so that he could have enough to turn them into Harden eventually.

He was only after Harden.

So he's not lying when he says that deal wasn't available, but the deal Indiana made was available.

That's a subjective opinion. I think he would have easily fetched Haliburton. I don't think he would have gotten Fox, unless we gave up someone else.

Don't be gullible man, why would Morey ever be 100% honest about this stuff. It serves him no purpose to say that he messed that up, and could have gotten a future all star who is probably going to become the best passer in the NBA for washed up Harden who folds in the playoffs.
