I like Powell too, but man this team needs a back up PG. Maybe address that in-season, but the PG position is bleak after J'rue.

And he's not really even a PG imo.

I think with how much Giannis and Midds handle the ball, a true PG isn’t 100% necessary. What is necessary is someone that can create their own shot or create easy shots for others.

So Powell would be a great fit because he can go get buckets. Meaning in the playoff grind when Giannis is walled off, they have another option outside of Midds ISOing.

I think Andre Jackson Jr. has the ability to be our best wing defender. Really like what I saw from him in summer league. Yes, we will have to cover for that jumper, but I have confidence that he can bring everything that Wes brought on the defensive end, but in an uber athletic 22yo package.

All about wing defenders and **** , are we ever going to talk about our 3p post-season shooting ?

Are we going to let Jrue average 8.4 3P attempts at 28.6% ?

I hope we have a complete shuffle at our offensive schemes ...

On D I am not sure new rookie coach can make miracles ... Brook and Khris are not getting any faster, so my expectations for an improvement on D are really low.

I don’t see the worry of Brook’s defense in Griffen’s scheme. Marc Gasol was the starting center when they won the championship and brought in Jakob Poeltl when their defense was failing without a true big man. Neither of them are known for their foot speed and switch-ability either. Even Horst and AG doubled down and brought in a Brook clone or his twin in case he gets in foul trouble.

Horst could be reticent to make a move if he’s really that high on any / all of the kids before seeing what they look like when the games start.

But unless he thinks Dre is actually a PG it seems strange that he wouldn’t want even a Jeff Teague or George Hill level backup on the roster.

Horst says he’s comfortable due to our top three guys all being playmakers but idk if I buy it. We’re down Joe Ingles too.

Great points from everyone——- about Dre, defense & Brook and Khris, 3 point shooting & Jrue etc.

My own take summary: I was excited at the overall potential of a few of these summer league guys, but disappointed that their shooting is so poor. Jrue shot poorly in the post season. Generally though with Khris playing less, Jrue had to pick up the offensive slack and thus he shot more throughout the season than when Khris was around more often. Having said that, defense seems ok, offense could be better; in this, we need a pg who can create easier shots for others when Giannis is walled off —— exactly agreeing with one of you who mentioned that in a very recent post. Jrue is just not that guy in my thinking. I also cannot understand how almost everyone not only in the SL for the Bucks (except Green of course) including our first round pick Mjb, is a poor shooter; that is big drawback in my opinion.

We need a true point guard *so that* we don't rely on point giannis or Midds as a primary ballhandler. The Bucks collapse when butterfingers infects the latter and dribbling into defenders and falling down infects the former. Until that happens, or ball movement without reliance on non-point guards as ballhandlers becomes the norm, we're not gonna see another title in Milwaukee. The remaining roster didn't have that problem, excepting Holiday.

I think reducing the playoff offensive workload for guys like Jrue and Brook with a Sexton/Powell type player gives us an actual two year window.

Beyond that, we'll have to see where Jrue's at.

Scotto:

Former Brooklyn Nets guard Edmond Sumner has drawn exploratory interest from the Hornets, Bucks, Raptors, Heat, and Suns since becoming a free agent, league sources told HoopsHype.

As previously reported on HoopsHype, Charlotte is searching for a veteran point guard – including monitoring Wizards guard Delon Wright as a potential trade target – after losing Dennis Smith Jr. to the Nets in free agency and failing to land Aaron Holiday before he signed with the Houston Rockets.

Milwaukee lacks a true point guard behind Jrue Holiday, with one remaining roster spot open. With that said, many around the league believe Thanasis Antetokounmpo will ultimately claim that final spot.

The Raptors also had Ibaka though. I guess we’re just banking on teams being as allergic from the 3 point line as we are.

Unless Giannis is cool with Thanasis moving on to full time podcasting / Greek bball, the Bucks have to make a choice:

1. Sign Thanos to the last roster spot instead of a backup PG. Punt and make a move before the deadline as needed.

2. Do a two for one trade something like Pat (or Bobby) + Allen + draft assets for Sexton or Rozier (Charlotte’s interest in a vet PG despite having Terry is notable for their view of his skills in that department).

3. Trade Allen + draft assets (if needed) for more of a lateral value PG like Delon Wright.

I thought nepotism had no direct consequences to the team

Looking into 2024 I believe this team is set for another big trade, which is why I didn't expect anything more this season than bringing everyone back below the 2nd tax apron and trying again with some other coach. One thing is missing, which I think will be easy. Talk Jrue into following Middleton's example and opt out to sign a new 3/100 contract. Assuming this happens Bucks will start with this:

The Big 3

1. Giannis............48,8
2. Middleton.........31,6
3. Holiday............30,8

Tradeable contracts

4. Lopez..............23
5. Portis..............12,6
6. Connaughton.....9,4

Cheap role players

7. Beauchamp......2,7
8. Green.............2,1
9. Jackson..........1,9
10. Livingston......1,9
11. POR SRP.........1,2

Total.................166
Tax...................172
2nd apron...........190

Tradeable assets

2024/2029/2031 FRPs
2028/2030 FRP swaps

Which means that...

- In terms of money Bucks can even add a supermax contract without touching their Big 3. Let's say KAT becomes available. Pat + Bobby + Brook is more than enough salary going out and Milwaukee will be just in the tax line with 9 contracts.

- In terms of value Bucks will have an identical draft package which netted them 30 y/o Holiday. An all star in his prime. There's a big difference though. Giannis will be entering his 30s, which makes this identical draft package look a lot better.

- In terms of tradeable contracts Bucks will have a better package too. Both Hill and Bledsoe (used in the Jrue trade) ended up bought out. Expiring Brook and/or Pat + Bobby on below MLE money 2y deals should hold positive value.

Taking into account that Giannis will be entering a contract year, next summer will be HUGE. Giannis should start recruitng. I used KAT as an example due to their good relationship. KAT entering in a monster 4y/234mil deal won't be doing any favors to his value for Minny too. I don't know if KAT will be the one, but Horst should definitely pull a trade to maximize Giannis' window in 2024 and make him resign, while pushing aging Jrue and Midds to more suiting 3a and 3b roles.

Having said that please stop using that 2029 FRP in trades. Won't happen. Actually I would be more interested in trading expiring Allen for a bad contract and a pick.

Was really hoping we could finally rid ourselves of Thanasis and play with a full roster.

Doesn't sound like that's gonna happen.

Think most of this board including myself believes there will be a 2 for 1 trade coming with allen/ pat or portis going out that opens up spot for thanasis

Hopefully a 2 for 1 deal comes along. Our roster seems to be full way to quickly and not that exciting anyway. Heck our core 4 shouldn't of all been back. I would of traded one or two already last season. Just keep Giannis. Other 3 can go. Also after the Championship feels like most of our roster got lazy and was expecting repeats or Giannis carrying the whole team on his back constantly. We need Giannis with new young hungry players. Kinda felt like Holiday and Middleton kinda mailed it in last season. Coasting through. Lopez was decent but was a contract year. That was a given.

Holiday mailed it in…in a season he made the ASG and was 1st team all defense? Okay lol.
