Trade Talk (Part Thirteen): 2023 Offseason Edition
We better start to find a new Haliburton. Andrew Nembhard?
Other candidates: Dalen Terry, Bones Hyland, Tre Mann, Jalen Suggs, IQ.

The trade proposals for Towns lately seem ridiculous. Idk what his actual value is but these writers are really trying to send him elsewhere for pennies on the dollar.
Not to mention already trying to get Ant to force a trade before his extension even kicks in. LoL the media is just all over the place…
There are plenty of sites you can immediately discredit, Bleacher Report is one such source.
I agree.
With so little basketball news to go through, I have been listening to the Locked On Wolves podcast. Once or twice a week, Ben Beecken will get mad over something that was posted in Bleacher Report. Seems like a waste of time to me.
I agree with Guest84 - this is another ridiculous BR proposal. The Spurs don’t even include any of their own picks!

Usually.
They do have national writers who actually report things but then there's still the fanboi side with content that is speculation at best.
That piece is 100% fan-fiction.

When I hear these vehement denials of Bleacher Report articles, it always makes me think, “What if I wrote articles about some of the dumb trades on the Trade Board, that usually know as little about the Timberwolves as Bleacher Report trades?”
Then I think, “Wouldn’t it just make me feel dirty?”

Re: Trade Talk (Part Thirteen): 2023 Offseason Edition
How about this for Bleacher Reports
: Pacers has been going nowhere since the 2019-2020 season where they lost 4 straight to Heat in the 1st round of the playoff. Current roster is not structured to make deep playoff runs and not bad enough to get a top 3 pick. Hali is not an alpha on a good team and they will start to paid him max salary next year. They also don't have any additional future picks. They need to trade Hali to start a real rebuild. A trade to Minnesota for Naz, Conley, two future 1st swaps and four 2nd Round picks will go a long way to setup salary flexibility, future assets for rebuild, and get a future starting center after losing out on Ayton. It will set them up with the hope to draft #1 in 2024 and sign 2 max players in next off season. For the Wolves, Heli is not ideal due to his salary, but is a reasonable price for a starting point

Re: Trade Talk (Part Thirteen): 2023 Offseason Edition
The court of public opinion says we need to trade Towns now or at the trade deadline before his salary jumps because it will be more difficult to match salaries.
Counterpoint: Matching salaries at a higher contract amount means additional value for Connelly to extract on the margins. Remember, Russell's salary isn't matched without adding NAW to the deal.

Seriously, would you do a Hali for Towns trade? I am still on the fence. I like Lillard better because he is a more dominating player. How about Towns+JMcD for Hali?

I would probably do almost whatever it takes to pair Haliburton with Edwards....with the almost meaning a likely exclusion of McDaniels from most any trade package.

Would I trade KAT for Hali? Absolutely.
Would I add McDaniels? I don't think so.

Kat for Hali is a terrible trade. We lose. Hali is a good player but not as important to this team as Kat is. By the end of the season people will say it's crazy to even think about trading Kat unless you get a fortune back. Hali ain't no fortune.

Of course he is.
He's every bit the shooter KAT is and one of the best passers in the game - and he doesn't turn it over.
He's coming off a season where he had as much offensive impact as KAT's very best year.
And while he isn't a "special" athlete, he's so smart and has such an innate understanding of the game that he's even turning into a pretty solid defender.
He's 23. Hali/Ant/McDaniels is a core that you run with for the next decade+

Yeah, agree. I used to be the one who was very skeptical about Hali future as starting PG in NBA, because he has such a weird shooting release. But he has been everything I want from starting NBA PG and even more. I also think that if we pair him with Ant and MCD their run-and-gun trio would be absolute unstoppable.

Do you guys remember the rumour, that Rosas tried to aquire another lottery pick prior to the 2020 draft, because he liked Hali? Ofcourse nobody knows if this was true and how a deal he was interested in would habe looked like. But boy, if that was true or... had happened...

Nick I think you're wrong. Haliburton is a fortune. Every bit as valuable as KAT.

Re: Trade Talk (Part Thirteen): 2023 Offseason Edition
IND: Towns, McLaughlin, Moore
MIN: Hield, Nembhard, Theis, Toppin, 2024 FRP, three SRPs
Why for IND: Indiana has been epitome of mediocre team. By adding Towns they can finally jump into playoff in East. Hield, Nembhard, Theis, Toppin are not needle movers for them. Turner+Towns+Haliburton+Carlisle might be a good foundation
Turner/Smith + Tshiebwe
Towns/Jackson/Walker
Mathurin/Neismith/Nwora + Brown
Brown/Moore/Sheppard + Wong
Hali/Connell/McLaughlin
Why for MIN: get future starting PG in Nembhard, an interesting PF in Toppin, expiring Hield who is also a movement shooter. Theis contract might be useful, since he has team option in 2024-25. Plus we would send Towns to East conference. Our rotation will be deep.
Gobert/Reid/Theis + Garza
Anderson/Toppin/Miller
McDaniels/Brown/Minott
Edwards/NAW/Hield
Conley/Milton/Nembhard
If Nembhard proves to be a capable starting PG, it could completely shift our development path of this organization. After 2023-24 year our roster will have A LOT of flexibility.
Garza, Topping - RFA
Anderson, Conley - UFA
Milton, Brown, Theis - team option
Hield - UFA
Minott - non-guaranteed
+ two FRPs
Gobert/Reid
Miller
McDaniels/Minott
Edwards/NAW
Nembhard

Another PG I used to be skeptical about is Jalen Brunson and his 104 mil contract. I thought he would not be able to replicate his performance in NYK because of lack of spacing and Thibs lack creativity in offense. I was wrong.

Horrible idea. Any trade sending KAT to Indi better include Hali or many FRPs. Screw the SRPs. You're way overrating Nembhard. and having us take garbage. One of the most one sided trade proposals going against the Wolves I have ever seen. If Nembhard is so good Indy should keep him and send us Hali.

Re: Trade Talk (Part Thirteen): 2023 Offseason Edition
I doubt Indiana is a team we'll deal with, unless it's a three-way deal.
I still wonder if eventually things will end up with the Knicks back in the middle of the discussions. Not for Randle, don't worry. Just spitballing here...send Barrett to Indiana for their primary return. We get Haliburton in the deal. I personally wouldn't hate getting back the 25-year old Mitchell Robinson if we had to...Fournier is a large expiring and could cook French cuisine with Rudy.

I just can't see Barrett being the piece that gets Indy to move on from Hali.
Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
