I was at WrestleMania 1. Used to go to matches in Nassau Coliseum with my dad. Dusty Rhodes and that late 70s era.

Loved the WCCW broadcast on channel 61 I think, VHF. The Von Erichs and the Fabulous Freebirds. AWA/NWA.

Fun memories. Me and a couple friends invented a D&D style wrestling game. It was amazing fun creating our own wrestlers and doing the artwork.

I went to a WWF show at the Nassau Coliseum back in high school. I remember the big tag team match was between Jesus & John vs Pontius Pilate & Emperor Tiberius.

Fixed for accuracy... :o

That's awful to hear. Wrestler's deaths at young ages will never not be unsettling.

First off, RIP Terry Funk, RIP Bray, and RIP Sheik. The passing of Bray is especially sad and perplexing. Maybe it had nothing to do with wrestling or the business (doubtful), but either way another eery example of wrestlers who died way too young.

On a lighter note, does anyone here listen to Jim Cornette?

I was always somewhat of a wrestling purist myself. Total Bret Hart mark. Forever longing for late 80's - 90s wrestling. Couldn't tolerate anything about WWE after around 2003/2004 when Cena became prominent, all the way up until the Shield arrived and I started casually following along again, although still not enough to call myself a fan anymore.

Around this time I also began to take interest in some of the indy stuff I would see on youtube. Thought Omega was dope when he was the guy in Japan. Became familiar with guys like the Bucks and a few others. Then AEW became a thing, and before it got off the ground, I was incredibly hyped. All Out was sick, and I was officially on the Cody bandwagon. I thought Jericho jumping ship was huge, and that AEW had a real shot at something special and could be the thing that revives pro wrestling.

But as it went along, in the early going, there was something unsettling about the product. The presentation and the wrestling itself was off, and I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Just figured they had a collection of minor kinks to work out as a brand new company. And then Cornette's show started catching fire, and I started listening, and not only is it one of the funniest shows on the entire internet, but the analysis is so spot on, Jim's love and passion for wrestling is so immense, his knowledge and ability to tell stories from yesteryear is second to none..... and then there's his disdain for AEW.

Again, this is one of the funniest bits you're going to find on the internet if you a) like wrestling and b) are not a butt hurt AEW apologist. The way he rips into them in such a consistent manner is so cynical and intense, yet I can't help but agree with him on everything. It made me realize what a sham it all turned out to be, and I appreciate Jim's way of succinctly breaking down why their sh*t doesn't make sense, what they do wrong from booking and story telling to in-ring performance and technique, how they should have and could have done things differently, and how the product compares to the old days when wrestling was done right.

Jim is such a wordsmith, and does an incredible job analyzing what's wrong with the wrestling business as a whole (WWE included), and also gives credit where it's due and when it's due, so it's not all hate.

This is one of his newer clips, commenting on the backstage dust up between Punk and Jungle Boy. Had me rolling.

I always was a cornette fan, he signed this for me back in like 2012. And I listen to his show here and there to get his opinion

However I don't really agree with him about his hate for certain guys and styles and Kenny and Ospreay are curently my favorite rasslers. He kinda plays favorites with guys he likes and hates really stuck in his ways like an old man yelling at clouds type of situation so I take it with a grain of salt but he's still a funny character. Also, I like AEW and that's all I typically watch when I do watch. Like he always stans for CM Punk and I get it because he was always a favorite of mine but yeah he's kinda been a problem and not the in ring talent he was 10-15 years ago

In "the old days when wrestling was done right" people thought it was real and now we all know it's entertainment and it's not going back so I'm fine trying to evolve things but he's set in his ways

Shout out to Punk, his in ring work has been sloppy for years. But that really wasn't his appeal. Now he's taken up the mantle of Pro Wrestling's Last True Outlaw in the mold of Bruiser Brody and Stan Hansen. From Tony Khan on down to his EVP'S, AEW is a **** show of "Friendship" based angles and nonsensical spot fests. But the backstage stuff is far more interesting than the WWE's boring as hell shows.

Yup, I'm not a Punk fan at all. He's tremendously overrated in the ring as his work is sloppy and his finisher looks like dog sh*t. That being said, he's the biggest star AEW has ever had and probably will ever have. He's one of the biggest names in wrestling for the past 15 years, his arrival in AEW was one of the biggest stories in wrestling in modern day history, and he represented AEW's best chance to actually get ratings and compete with WWE on some level. And they decide to fire him for slapping around Jack Perry who was almost literally asking for it. Meanwhile Perry has the physique of a 13 year old, draws no money and has done jack sh*t in the wrestling business compared to Punk.

If this was the 90s, he would have gotten his ass kicked much worse, and then would have been fired (instead of Punk) just for stepping out of line. Tony Khan is a complete joke and has only set the business back with this whole venture, when he could have taken his daddy's billions and given the fans a real alternative to the corporate wrestling WWE has been giving us for the last 20 years. What a crying shame.

In what era would a lower midcard nobody like Perry survive after trying that on the CLEAR TOP DRAW in the company?

It's clear that Tony the Snowman has some sort of functional autism and has bought his friends forever. Now he's just doing it with guys that are his "Action Figures".

I totally agree with you on wanting a TRUE alternative to WWE. I've been a fan since the 80's. I guy like Perry, wouldn't last a month in a locker room with someone like Scott Steiner or the Road Warriors.

I think we see a heel Cena through the year but will turn back into babyface by end of year. His final opponent will be the Rock
