Some games will continue to be launchable from Steam directly, and some end up needing to be launched externally due to game file design or how extensive the mods are. If you're getting the mods from Nexus, the installation instructions should make it pretty clear if you can install manually (you download/put the files where they need to go/continue to launch through Steam), or if you need to use their Vortex mod manager (you download/it automatically installs and organizes your files/figures out the launch order/you launch from Vortex to activate the mods).

Aight I caved and got the early access for Lies of P for 10 extra bucks, will report my findings after playing it literally all day today and possibly tomorrow lol.

I know I said Lies of P could keep me occupied for a while but I couldn't wait on MK1. The MK/Injustice games are the only ones in the genre I enjoy and I can't wait to fire it up tomorrow.

Also, it looks like Lies of P was added to game pass a day early. It's on there now.

Lies of P is good, but I could see it being infuriating for players that are newer to soulslike games or aren’t that good at them.

Main reasons are all related to combat mechanics. Each of them on their own isn’t a big deal at all, but it’s all of them added together that makes for some incredibly frustrating fights, particularly boss/miniboss battles. Not really spoilers but still:
Spoiler:
- Perfect guard (parry) window is pretty small
- Lot of enemies have weird and unnatural delayed attacks that don’t give off any sort of audible or visual indicator. And the delays differ by enemies and even different attacks for the same enemy, so there’s not really a transferable pattern to pick up from one boss/miniboss to another. And it’s especially awkward for “fury” attacks, which you can *only* defend via perfect guard. There’s times where’s there a bizarrely long wind up, like 3-4 seconds, they’ll step forward, wind up again, and then the actual attack motion happens in a split second. This is by far my least favorite component and the only one that I would argue is actually bad.
- Dodging is still not strong, although still probably by design. Panic rolling is not viable here
- There’s essentially no poise. It’s problematic for heavy weapons, where you constantly get interrupted and staggered mid-attack
- No attack cancelation when guarding. Again an issue with slower weapons, particularly when you’re attacking before a weird delayed enemy attack where you have no idea when the attack is going to happen. So even if you try to perfect guard at the right time, the attack won’t cancel and you’ll take a hit.

Again none of these are inherently *bad* mechanics (outside of arguably the weird delayed attacks) it’s just the combination of ALL of them can get frustrating at times. To me they really should’ve loosened up at least 1 or 2 of them. So maybe easing up on all the delayed attacks a bit, or at least allowing for attack cancelation.

On a positive note, on PS5 the game looks good, great performance, lots of little QOL improvements over prior Souls games, great music, and definitely a good deal of content for the pricepoint. Weapon customization and options are really cool. The combat mechanics are solid, just needs a little tweaking IMO, which may end up happening in future updates, we’ll see. It’s an 8/10 for me but was very close to a 9 with some combat tweaks.

I'm looking forward to playing it tonight.

I felt bad for the Kotaku writer who penned a long blog about how terrible the dodge/roll mechanic is and how he's died dozens of times because of it. Commenters were quick to explain that's the point; the game wants you to learn how to parry.

To the writer's credit he waded into the comments to take his lumps.

This is further than I expected the second game to go. Interested to see where the cutoff is and, moreso, what they end up adding to the third game.

Just play Starfield. It's the same thing.

I bought a copy of Final Fantasy Tactics. Disk, case, and booklet. I was dubious since the seller was an online book store and it was only $13 including shipping. It arrived tonight and looks legit, I guess? I think I might go out and buy an original Playstation tomorrow here locally just to see if the game works.

I'd be in depending on the level of remake. I know it won't look like Starfield, but if they can get it looking like Fallout 4 with some updated systems or weaponry I would be all over it.

Checked out F-Zero99 today. Only did a handful of online matches and my best placement so far is 15 but it's cool. I like the rival system for ranking up.

I love MK1 so far. Combat is fun and I've come to enjoy it more than SF in the last 13 years or so, but I'm a complete sucker for the story mode. NetherRealm absolutely aces the cinematics (though I've heard Megan Fox is terrible in this go round).

I bought the Miyoo Mini Plus - thing is freaking awesome. Got it on sale for $40 or so.

Been playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Pokemon, all the old classics in a super lightweight portable device. I don't have Android phones, so this scratches my itch.

Because we definitely needed MORE games going on right now, it sounds like Phantom Liberty delivers and thensome.

Yeah, it sounds fantastic. I'll probably be holding off on it for a bit- still having a blast with BG3- but looking forward to eventually getting it.

It really looks like they're taking good care with this remake. Star Ocean went astray the past two decades from the super high standard TSS set; I'm so happy to see they might actually be sticking this landing.

So many new games to play, just about all of them I've bought, and I'm on a Stardew kick. Actually seems right after finishing the MK1 story mode.
