I thought porters contract made him easy to cut now?
I didn’t think Houston needed to trade him

they'd rather have a moveable salary in a future trade instead of $16M in dead cap this year. He's only guaranteed $1M after this season, so it's not about the future.

I don't know but I like it.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #5
Unless I'm mistaken, Gordo and Terry are the only bigger contract guys eligible.
Gordo makes the most sense for them monetarily and us from a consolidation standpoint.
Hero hopefully takes Terry's spot in the starting lineup, opening the forward slots for Miles and PJ.
It would leave the team very thin at 3/4 though

Re: Fake Trade Thread #5
The only way we're getting Herro is if we're sending out Hayward because I don't see either Miami or Portland taking Terry back. That pretty much kills my interest. I don't think it's a good idea to spend $50 million on two players in Herro/Terry with very similar strengths and weaknesses.

I'd do Herro for Terry or Gordon.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #5
I may be crazy but I’ve watched enough Heat games to really like what Herro can do, and postulated early on about finding a way to combine him with LaMelo. Have NO idea if this would be the best move we could make for an impact player, but it’s likely among the ONLY impact trades we might be able to pull off. It does concern me relative to defense, as Herro’s slightly improved D is still below average for a 2 guard. LaMelo, we know, is sub-standard in that department.
Also, what would this portend for Miller? Do they plan to put him at the 3, Miles at 4, bringing PJ off the bench (once Miller is a starter)?
I don’t see Miller being able to guard quick SG’s at this level. His future is at SF.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #5
we'd have to send out a first as well, we're not getting gifted Herro just for an expiring.
the defense worries me and surely we'd have to get rid of rozier

Re: Fake Trade Thread #5
The Herro rumor is all over the place, heard Toronto, heard Suns and Ayton could be involved, heard Nets etc..
For Hornets though, I think it would have to be Hayward going out for Herro. Why? Because the whole reason for 3rd team is Blazers don't want another expensive guard (Herro=Terry) and would rather flip Herro for another asset(s) and expiring.
Here is the 3 way I have currently.
Blazers send: Lillard and Nurkic
Blazers receive: Hayward, Lowry, Jacquez, Jokic, 2 firsts from Heat and Hornets 26 first
Heat receive: Lillard and Nurkic
Heat send: Lowry, Herro, Jacquez, Jokic and 2 firsts
Hornets send: Hayward and Unprotected 26 first (if you want to protect you probably have to include Nick Smith or maybe another 1st)
Hornets receive: Herro
Blazers get two big expirings, 2 prospects and 3 firsts for Lillard and get to dump a negative asset in Nurk.

Hornets would then decline options on Kai and Bouk. With Herro contract next year the Hornets would be basically at the cap (3 million or so below). Would still have roughly 30 million below the Lux tax to resign Bridges. They then could look to move off Terry longterm money, but wouldn't be a necessity to stay under tax.
This would be the aggressive move the new front office would take, instead of the conservative approach of letting Hayward expire and likely operating as a bottom 5 payroll next year. Letting Hayward expire at the end of the year doesn't really do much for us if the plan is to resign Bridges.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #5
an unprotected 1st for Herro is absolutely revolting.
Most of you don't even like having one Terry Rozier. What happens when we have 1.9 Terry Roziers making a combined $55-60M a year, with like 5 worse versions of them behind them, none of whom can play another position?

I hear you, which is why a deal like this NEEDS another trade to move Terry for a defensive specialist who has enough size to swing between the 2 and 3. Is there such an opportunity & player out there?

If we can pull in Dort or something, we should just do that and leave Herro alone.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #5
A healthy Martin fills that role.
Even though I'd take Herro over Rozier & Gordon (one for size and other for age) trading for him doesn't make a whole lot of sense. We have several SG's and Miller is a SF long term. Herro, ideally, is a high end 6th man like he is for Miami.
Melo
Martin (or another defender) - Herro
Miller
Miles
Williams

Re: Fake Trade Thread #5
Herro trade intrigues me and excites me, It wouldn't bother me who we gave up Terry or Gordon.
Everyone knows we lack 3pt shooting and Herro would certainly help in that department and could free up Lamelo more to either drive to the basket or find space on the 3pt line.
Ball, Herro, Bridges, PJ, Williams is an exciting line up and some nice pieces to come off the bench for either defence or scoring.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #5
Unless they take Rozier I'm a no on Herro. How many
combo guards do we need? Herro also has a negative wingspan. That'd be an awful fit.
We'd have about 5 guys with the same archetype, which is also the least valuable archetype in the NBA.
