Hield shot 42.5% from 3 last year, but he was under 40% each of the previous 4 seasons, including under 37% in 2 of those seasons. Not good enough imo for a one trick pony making almost 20 mil. He's a career 48% 3pt shooter from the corners, so the idea that he's an unbelievable movement shooter is a bit overstated.

Sam is less of a movement shooter than Curry or Hield (he's more like Niang in that regard) but it's not like the Celtics employ a ton of movement anyway. But Sam does need to watch a ton of Duncan Robinson tapes to see how he can be more of a threat on offense. DRob can put the ball on the floor a bit and pass off closeouts/PnRs/handoffs.

Intrigued with the possibility of a Tatum-Hield-Hauser-White(or Horford)-Porzingis lineup though. But it's not like JuJitsu Joe is gonna try that anyway.

Yeah it’s not a Buddy or Hauser thing, we could have both. My reasons for preferring Hield over Brogdon are the following.

You’re right in that we don’t employ a ton of motion, but if we got Hield, you’d have to think we’d run him off screens a bunch. I think that’s a wrinkle that would open up a lot for us, offensively. It’s one more thing for the defenses to have to worry about.

Hield isn’t going to overdribble and bog down the offense. Having both Brogdon and Jaylen on the court at the same time? Well we’ve seen it lol. Buddy knows what his game is, and is just awesome at it. He’s been on crap teams, so I don’t care about his on/off. Good teams put players in better position to succeed.

Health. We got a relatively healthy season out if MB, what are the chances of that happening again?

Hield would EAT playing off of Tatum with the bench lineups.

He also hasn't played on a good team on low usage. Never been lower than 20%. KP, JT, JB all will be in the high 20s to 30s. I imagine White's will increase too. We've never seen Hield as low-usage bench guy except for maybe one season with the Kings. Brogdon can adjust his game. He's played the lesser role in Milwaukee. It's on Joe. He gave him too much freedom (or he really just didn't have time to put the pieces together esp with Brogdon as the new guy). I still think we need more ballhandlers/playmakers than pure shooters on the team (we have enough imo). While you think Tatum should have the ball more. For me, he can do that in the 4th or in the postseason. But you still need ballhandlers to eat up minutes in the regular season.

Health is Hield's only clear advantage for me. Can we just trade Brogdon for Mikal Bridges?

5 Reasons The Celtics Won't Acquire Buddy Hield

1. Hield's defense would be troublesome in the playoffs.

2. The Pacers would not want a return of Brogdon, so a 3rd or 4th team would have to be involved.

3. The Celtics have little interest in extending Hield and Stevens usually targets non-expiring quality players.

4. The Celtics would have to make a separate deal to find another ballhandler if Brogdon was moved.

5. Does Malcolm have any trade value at the moment with questions about the severity of his arm injury?

It's not like they're winning the Title this season anyway,
but their chances are greater with Lillard and they really need a PG,
and he's the best one on the market, they have better resources than Miami,
and their fan base is great, so perhaps they should be rewarded.

Buddy Hield (1705-4240 3pt attempts) (40.2 3pt career average)

Sam Hauser (159-379 3pt attempts) (42.0 3pt career average)

Let’s wait until Sam makes at least 500 3’s before we say he is as good or even on Buddy’s level

With Hield, the Celtics lose Brogdon and all the positives he brings on offense.

With Hauser, the Celtics DON'T lose Brogdon or any other player.

If what we're looking for is volume shooting on low usage (since we already have at least 3 high usage guys on the team) to space the floor and stretch the defense, we already have one on the team. No need to lose Brogdon for an overpaid shooter (can't play D, also unproven in the postseason). Hauser is Strus/Robinson before they developed their game a bit and got paid. Keep Brogs and play Hauser more.

Points per touch for these two shooters:
Hield: 0.286
Hauser:. 0.335

Barring injuries, this team has everything you need to win it all. They are their own biggest enemy.

A team who can defend Tatum without consistently trapping him is really their biggest enemy.

Hopefully Porzingis helps there, you’d have to think he will though.

His stepback pullup needs to come back to decent-awesome levels if he's gonna handle the ball more.

They had a guy who went 10/21, 7/23, and 6/17 in the first three games of the ECF while getting to the line twice. That's their biggest enemy. A team who can defend Tatum without trapping him is somewhere way way down the list of the Celtics' biggest problems.

That was the weirdest part from him last year. I know guys coast in the regular season, but his stepback was BRUTAL at times last year.

His sidestep used to be elite, last year it felt like it was meh and at times terrible

Why is Tatum posting IG/snaps of Baynes and Thompson? He misses his former bruiser bigs?

All he needs to do is yell and act so crazy that it puts real fear into the team for like 5-8 a season. Just caveman smash a chair on the sidelines when we’re down 4 at home in round 2 of the playoffs.

I’m sure they’ll play better when genuinely fearing for their life .

Tbh I don't think any of that matters as long as these guys just show up. Lack of effort and playing like the other team will just let you win are two of the biggest problem this team has had for years.

FWIW:

A recent report from Boston Celtics insider Adam Kaufmann revealed that point guard Malcolm Brogdon could still be traded in the future. He noted that Brogdon isn’t “actively being dangled” for trade, but is “absolutely on the trade block”.

“Malcolm Brogdon still very much could be traded. I have heard some whispers that the Celtics are still trying to trade him... I have been saying for weeks, for months ever since the trade fell apart, do not be surprised if the fallout from this situation still leads to Malcolm Brogdon getting traded. I still believe Malcolm Brogdon is maybe not actively being dangled out there by the Celtics, but I think he is absolutely on the trade block. I firmly, firmly believe that.”
