Lions LeadUp

Post#1 » by MickeyDavis » Sun Sep 24, 2023 9:11 pm

Division favorites take on a young upstart team. And we're the youngins.

Short week. It will be interesting to see who plays and who's given an additional 11 days off.

Other than north of downtown on 43 is there any other construction between Milwaukee and Green Bay on 41 or 43?
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Parlay thae huge confidence boost from tbe comeback to beat the Lions. Get one or two of the mobile wounded back and that can only help. Improve on run blocking(pass blocking was effective) and JFC on a bicycle, cut down on the penalties

Packers open as 1 point dogs. I'd love to be at full strength but Jones is the top guy I want back.

Agree. Jones is such an important piece to this offense. But imagine him and Watson being out there. Watson would open up sooo much for everyone else.

It would be real nice to have Jaire back too, if possible. They're getting a little too far down the DB depth chart for comfort.

I get the sense the Packer's didn't want to take a chance bringing anyone back today with another game on Thursday. And I am sure the Packers probably put more value on a division game at home than today's game vs the Saints.

Had our next game been next Sunday, some guys might have played today. I could wrong, I guess we will find out this week.

Hoping we get to see Jones, he's the engine of that offense. If he's back I'm feeling confident at home.

Also young bodies recover quicker. So hopefully all the youngsters who played today are feeling fresh by Thursday.

A big test for the defense on Thursday. The Lions have a talented offense so I'm not going to have completely unrealistic expectations but but you can't let them dog walk you up and down the field like the Atlanta game.

I can't wait for the young WRs to get better at their comebacks/curls. Too many passes are defended because they can't sell, they are too obvious in their route, or they aren't finishing their routes toward the LOS. Love obviously can get better at placement on those passes too.

Funny you mention that. Watching Davante last night, he put on a clinic for how to get open, including coming back towards the QB when a play broke down. A lesson the Packer young 'uns can better learn

I still think Aaron Jones is the key to the offense with how dynamic he is. He can run between or outside the tackles, catch dump passes and screens. He's just too electric. Which is why I was fine resting him yesterday. If he's back I think we have a good chance. Without him it's a complete toss up.

Yeah, there's been at least 4-5 plays where it's an easy completion if the receiver just attacks the ball rather than letting it come to them on curl routes. Musgrave and Reed have been the biggest culprits of that so far not surprisingly. Gonna be real fun once these guys get their timing down.

I think Wicks is gonna be a solid 3rd-4th WR in this league. He's just lacking any real "burst" off the line, which is why I thought his RAS score was a bit misleading. He doesn't pop off the tape athletically. Really good at high-pointing the ball and leveraging his size/strength though. He's like a poor man's Anquan Boldin.

I remain a Jordan Love skeptic, but yesterday was HIGHLY impressive whether it was against a backup QB or not. Finishing games was certainly a problem area for Rodgers his rookie season. Being able to keep your head on straight, keep everyone together, and pulling a rabbit out of the hat is REALLY hard in the NFL, and he did it in his 3rd start as the undisputed QB1.

Credit where credit is due.

Some musings:

1) Last time I liked how our defense looked was 2014 when we blew the NFC championship to Seattle. Just always seem slow and soft to me.
2) Musgrave needs to work on his balance. He is constantly stumbling and has really poor body control.
3) It's easy to imagine Love being a top 10 QB in the league in a year or two. He's got the poise and leadership qualities of the best ones

We touched on this in his draft thread. He jumps to catch the ball, even when he doesn't need to.
