this means that Taylor Funk, DJ Steward will be going to Maine full time. No 2-way for them.

Not necessarily.

There's a chance (maybe a small chance, but certainly a chance) that either JD, Scrubb or Queta gets their contract converted from a 2-way to a standard contract, getting that 15th roster spot. That would open up a 2-way slot for Funk or Steward.

There's also a chance (maybe a small chance, but certainly a chance) that Funk or Steward earns the 15th roster spot in camp. They're both on exhibit 10 deals. Remember, last season both Vonleh and Justin Jackson started out on exhibit 10 deals, but ended up earning standard roster spots at the end of camp.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Clutch shooter and ankle sprainer Matt Ryan landing a sweet 2-way deal to go back to MIN. Played for a bit in LAL before landing with the Wolves, gets another chance in the mix.

Hoops Rumors Glossary: Exhibit 9 Contract
August 16th 2023, 2:40pm CST | by Luke Adams

https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2023/08/hoops-rumors-glossary-exhibit-9-contract.html#:~:text=An%20Exhibit%209%20clause%20protects,significant%20injury%20in%20training%20camp.
An Exhibit 9 clause protects an NBA team in the event that a player suffers a significant injury in training camp.

If a player on a standard non-guaranteed contract without an Exhibit 9 clause suffered such an injury, his club would be required to pay him his salary until he’s healthy enough to play or until the end of that season, whichever comes first. For example, a player on a non-guaranteed rookie minimum deal who sustained a season-ending ACL tear would be owed his full $1,119,563 salary.

If the injured player’s contract includes Exhibit 9 language, however, his team could waive him and only be on the hook for a one-time payment of $15K. That amount has increased from $6K in the NBA’s previous Collective Bargaining Agreement.

An Exhibit 9 contract, which is non-guaranteed and doesn’t count against the salary cap until the start of the regular season, can only be a one-year, minimum-salary deal. A team can carry up to six players on Exhibit 9 deals, but can’t sign a player to such a contract unless it has at least 14 players already under contract (not including two-way deals).

If an exhibit 9 guy gets hurt and cut, he's probably not signing another contract until the next season. How is he supposed to live on 15k for the entire year ? Couldn't they have bumped that number to something looking like a decent wage ? I understand that the poor owners have to feed their family somehow but surely they could have spared an extra 50k or so.

He's got $400k coming to him via the Spurs from last season. Can't think of any reason other than that for him to sign that deal with us.

Good for him but I was making a wider point about the exhibit 9 contracts. Considering the amount of money that NBA franchises generate they should pay living wages even to the last guy of training camp. Those ridiculously low salaries are going to be driving fringe NBA guys either overseas or out of the game all together and that is going to dilute the NBA product.

Wonder if there is some other (player's association/insurance) money that comes into play if a guy is hurt like that.

Vonleh and Justin Jackson had Exhibit 9 contracts last year and made the team. Most guys with that contract do.

Guys like Layman, Brodric Thomas, etc. didn't and theirs was an Exhibit 10

We're now at 19 guys on the training camp roster. 2 open spots.

Gotta leave 1 spot open in case we're able to sign and trade Blake to get Jrue..

This is what I have now..still 2 open spots on the training camp roster..

My guess is the first 14 guys listed here make the team, and the last spot goes to Gabriel. But you never know, Brad still could have more moves up his sleeve..
