We lost the TP-MLE but have that $6M TPE. Some of the restrictions for second apron don't really kick in until next season.

Also, Hornets need to waive Hayward before the season starts.:P

Was that you with me, before the Bucks snatched him up, begging Ainge to grab him? I think it was the man in the mirror for sure! :D

I just knew he was gonna be a Celtics back then, i watched so much on him, but i already liked him before those rumors! I was so disappointed!

I’ll miss Rob and that GSW pick, but I have been all in on Holiday for years! He has a special something about him.

What if we signed a guy like Reggie Bullock and actually… started him over White or Horford?

Playoff rotation of:

PG: Holiday (35), White (13)
SG: Bullock (20), White (22), Brown (6)
SF: Brown (30), Hauser (18)
PF: Tatum (38), Horford (10)
C: Porzingis (32), Horford (16)

I feel like White might be super marginalized in the starting 5 and starting him with Jrue might create a rotation log jam where you need to play another PG type, and those guys can tend to be liabilities height wise. Bullock is still playing a minor role in the rotation here, but starting him allows you to go with another wing like Hauser here over a Pritchard type size liability.

Absolutely. Brissett, Stevens, Mykhailiuk, and now Gabriel are all guys who played decent minutes and contributed for their previous teams, and are also generally well-regarded by those teams and the fan bases. I like all the signings and am surprised Brad landed them all and on friendly contracts (for the Celtics). In the past we would have gotten maybe one or two of them.

For a team that has 4 star-level contracts, attracting these free agents is crucial. Hearing some of the criticisms is perplexing, but when people see the results it will be a different story. The new players just need to be professional and go out on the court and deliver their specialty. That will be enough. By next year people will be clamoring to resign our bench players but we won;t bev able to keep them all. This summer has been exceptional.

I think Jrue and White carry extra value precisely because they can fit into lineups without needing the ball. I would start them both and finish with both.
I don't like Bullock. A meh spot up shooter who doesn't do anything else well. He's a net negative.

Mind boggling to me that there is a universe where Reggie Bullock is a starting two guard for the Boston Celtics.

Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t some rules with TPE’s change? Is it just for claiming someone off waivers so Hayward wouldn’t fit in this case?

I just heard Bobby Marks say that on Friday he thought the deal was going to happen with Brogdon and the platter, including Blake.

That team is LOADED honestly.

Only weak spot on paper is backup guard as not sure if pritchard and walsh are worthy of top 8or9 spot.

Walsh isn't a guard.

Pritchard was our 8th man when we made the 2022 NBA finals. He was only a 2nd year player then..now he;'s a year 4 player, so should be better now. He could certainly be a decent 8th/9th man.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Not sure if it's been said......

Celtics will be looking for additional bigs as insurance policies for Al & Porzingis. Do you think Dwight Howard will be on their list?

A team above first apron can't sign anyone waived who makes more than NT-MLE once the season starts.

I think they prob start Al (for the 58 games he plays) but count me in the out pile for Bullock as well. Seems like they are really moving away from these low-volume scorers unless they are prime athletic age. Thicker/old/slow skill guys that can play defense a bit but really limited on offense seem out of favor right now.

He’s been a starting caliber player for playoff and playoff contending teams the last 3 years. And he’s still no more than the 7th man here. Can’t imagine anyone would have qualms with him signing here to be the 7th man - I imagine that would be lauded as a great move.

You could easily flip him and White in that rotation I listed so he isn’t a starter anymore, but I think the math of making that rotation actually work might mean you have to player White and/or a Jrue for some shorter or longer than ideal stints since you’re forced into starting each half with them together while also wanting it to be your closing lineup. We’ve seen teams do that before bringing a better player off the bench than the starter.

Unless you watch basketball frfr, people can’t even name most of the bench players on the last 10 championships! Those people are always, pray 1-2 can play decent enough to gobble up 15-20 minutes a night in the regular season! It’s always a guy nobody expected who plays above their heads in the playoffs!

I bet people on this board can name guys from that chip in 08 team that they probably wanted gone during the regular season but came up big in some form in the playoffs!

We may not have the names but with a team so stacked at the top it can give the others the runway to just play their role and excel! I think Lamar and Hause are going to be key players in the regular season and maybe in the playoffs but I’m not counting out it being Svi, Gabriel or Walsh types.

I’m not going overboard on those guys because in reality those guys are mainly fillers when you’re top heavy, I just know on most contenders, those types always push out one or two surprises! Look at Braun helping win a finals game… WHO?! Look at friggen Austin Reaves?!! I can go on and on about “others” who have stepped up when no one expected them to, not even the folk on their team!

Can we ban Dwight Howard’s name from this board? Treat it like we are in the world of Harold Potter, and can’t say Voldemort.

Guessing the Jrue signing is partially to keep the ball out of JB's hands lol.

I just think if you start both of them (meaning both half’s) and then close with them, you’re going to use up most of the minutes they play together in those three stints as opposed to having them both out there more consistently throughout the game.

It’s the same issues most have talked about in the past of starting two bigs together (Horford/Rob) while also having them fill all the minutes at the 5. Because I’d really rather avoid having another PG midget type if we can avoid it by staggering Holiday/White there.

Now at the same time, Holiday/White can each play like an extra 5-10 minutes per game come playoff time if you push them vs what Al at this age and Rob with his health issues can if you push them. So the math isn’t as dire there.

Feels like Brad traded in the old Honda the Jays had been taking to the ECF each year for an Audi

If only Hemingway were here to post “I LOVE YOU ALL THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL”
