It felt like choices/build/gear were completely irrelevant, I never even remotely came close to dying at any point. It's beautiful graphically and seemed to have a cool story/great cut scenes...but does it get more difficult or anything? Just hard to devote my gaming time to an interactive movie that is mindless button mashing. If it gets better I'll definitely delve back in at some point, but so many games have come out recently or are going to be releasing it's tough.

I played it for the story and adjusted the difficulty as such. It was a button masher with some pretty basic combos. Hit one button every five seconds, hit another every eight, hit the last every 13. Mash the others. Seemed like it could be difficult and require some strategy if I upped the difficulty, obviously.

But there's better action games if skill is what you're looking for.

I'm not even someone who really plays action hack and slashers for difficulty like Bloodborne or whatever, but if a game has RPG elements I do like them to mean something beyond how the animations look aesthetically. Oh well. I'm sure I'll give it another try at some point when I clear out other games or whatever.

Also finished Lies of P
Spoiler:
Yep, still feeling this is an 8/10. Generally speaking great atmosphere, visuals, solid combat once you get the hang of it (although still some annoying mechanics), great weapon customization and cool enemy/boss designs. Solid end game, although Simon is a bull **** boss. Laxasia is solid, as is Nameless Puppet, although Nameless Puppet is stupidly difficult with a non-heavy weapon that doesn’t reduce damage much. Literally had to re-spec just for that fight from technique to motivity. The balancing between regular enemies in an area and the bosses can be dumb at times.

I really wish there were more upgrade materials for special weapons. I need to be able to fully upgrade more than like 3 weapons.

All in all a great first game, way better than anyone could’ve reasonably expected for their first soulslike. The brutally difficult mechanics ease up as you upgrade the skill tree, although I still feel heavy weapons are just not viable long-term for me in this game. Maybe a boss or mini-boss here or there, but not overall.

Wizard of Oz next game should be pretty dope. Hopefully they clean up some of the mechanics.

God, what a crazy fall. Finished Lies of P and now we got Lords of the Fallen (which I’m seeing getting damn near unanimous praise), Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake 2, Cyberpunk 2.0, AC Mirage.

Has anyone bothered with NBA 2K24?

I usually buy the game Black Friday for cheap. However, I’m boycotting all new sports games across the board now.

Unrelated, but I bought MLB the Show and I hate it. Good for you boycotting them. Can’t believe I wasted $60

I’m playing it a lot as always. If you can get past the micro transactions, it’s the best game they’ve ever made IMO. AI isn’t nearly as brain dead as they used to be and the ProPlay stuff they added this year to mirror real life movements is a huge breakthrough.

Forza Motorsport sounds like it took a lot of wrong turns (pun intended, thank you). The car experience system sounds antithetical to what sim racing games have traditionally been - and I don't think that's a good thing. Wasn't ever really hyped for it, as a GT guy, but was hoping it could pique my interest; instead, I think it's just got me wanting to revisit GT7.

That's a bummer. Wasn't on my radar; the "authentic" racers have never been my thing. Seems like Luke Reilly at IGN liked the racing but had problems with what seemed like RGB progression mechanics. That does seem bad.

Just biding time with whatever until Lords of the Fallen comes out.

Apparently I did beat the first boss, and bunch after. I keep coming upon levels I know I already played. I don't know what road block I hit back then to make me bounce, but I'm enjoying it now.

ETA: LOL, found the exact place I put the game down. Determined to push through this time but I've had a couple scream at the TV incidents tonight.

ETA2: Beat the big bitch on the next attempt. Game is fun.

ETA3: And then game opens up in a huge way that I wish other SoulsLike games would with infinite respecing.

BG3 keeps going. I'm unlocking things I thought were basically done. Doing my best to finish before the season starts.

Haven’t touched BG3, SF6, or really any other game for the last 2-4 weeks. Work is just busy, doing wedding planning stuff for next year, being a dumb nerd trying to build two 40K armies. Hoping I can get some serious hours into my BG3 save in the next few weeks so I can finish it before the end of the year.

In the same spot with busy weeks winning over gaming time. When I have had time to sit down for short bursts, been mostly playing POE (even though I had put it down for this league) just because it's easy to pick-up and play for 10 minutes. So BG3 is sitting there partway into A2; Starfield is sitting...idk, somewhere out in space. Both feel like they really need a lot of time.

FF16 is just way too easy, and it was a big unforced error tucking the higher difficulty behind NG+. Every once in a while a fight (usually a hunt) forces you to use the combat system more fully and it's pretty sweet.

My co-op game of BG3 keeps trucking along (we meet to play a couple of times per week). I think we might be done by next Easter.

Its hilarious to me that with Starfield, BG3, and 10 other new games I want to play out I find myself only playing NCAAF 14. I've taken UTSA to a top 5 ranking the last 3 years, but was screwed out of the BCS last year. 12-1 record, was 2nd in AP, but after winning Big 12 title game was bumped to 4th in BCS. Texas (who I beat) and a 2 loss team jumped me even though our "score" (.989) was the exact same.

This year I've got my entire group of recruits (year 5) starting and we went from 70 overall to 84 in the last 5 years. Led by a 91 overall QB I brought in year 1. I'm committed to winning a BCS title game and even then, I won't be jumping ship to another school. UTSA will be a powerhouse dynasty when Coach Jschligs is done.

I just got back into the swing of BG3 lately and I'm somewhere in Act II now. I ended up turning off karmic dice so now enemies are actually missing attacks

For some reason I had it in my head that Lords of the Fallen wasn't out for another couple weeks. I guess I was thinking of Spider-Man 2. I can't wait to play both, but now I'm also deep into Wo Long and I'm only halfway through the campaign, not even counting DLC.

I still have BG3 sitting there too, but that's probably only going to be something I play when work is extremely slow on Friday afternoons. Dave the Diver was supposed to be that game but I still haven't started it up. Latest AC out there. Alan Wake II, Star Ocean and Super Mario RPG to come.

Too many good games out there.

Since it’s coming to Steam, is Diablo IV worth a look? I am not up-to-date on it other than seeing a lot of “endgame sucks” type comments online. Got a little itch for a Diablo-like, but maybe I’ll wait another six months for either the Grim Dawn expansion or hopefully Diablo 2 Resurrected coming to Steam.
