Preseason Game Thread - Miami Heat vs Charlotte Hornets - 10/10/23 @ 7:30pm EST

Some nice things to take from this game. Disappointed we didn’t see more Jovic but hopefully that happens in game 2.

Pros
- Bryant was excellent and could fill an important role off the bench.
- Jaquez looks ready. Super composed and balanced player.
- Swider is a legit shooter. He should be signed very very soon.
- Herro and Bam both looked pretty good.

Cons:
- Dru Smith. Woy.
- Duncan was bricky. It happens.
- Not enough Jovic.

Duncan looks very concerned, but we’re going to need him as another sniper. He needs to get his mind in the right place.

Swider was better than anything Duncan or Strus in his first ever game with the Heat.
Dude seems pure.

Also the dude is legit 6'9" which means you can slide him at PF or SF without taking too much of hit on size. When Ducan was in the game because he is really slow laterally and only 6'-7" he is limited at the SG/SF spots and he gets burned all the time, and then overmatched whenever he found himself as a small ball PF. Not only is this guy legit shooter, and a motion shooter he is big.

Yup.
Another thing I’d notice about his shot was his mechanics. Duncan seems streaky as heck with his prayer shooting mechanics, but this dude Swider looks to have that pure release and confidence.

Yeah I am glad we replaced last years miggits with some size for real plus rid of some negatives.

If Herro thinks going 7-22 is not gonna get him traded, he is in for a rude awaking today was a carbon copy game of Herro from last season. I didn't see a single new thing, couldn't beat anybody off the dribble, needed a screen to get free, and was absolutely inefficient and chucked shots that should of been a better play call.

Spo talked him up like Herro turned into Booker from phoenix all of a sudden, absolute trash until proven otherwise. Really disappointed, again one game, but he will continue to have the trash line until he proves it. Him moving down 18 spots from last year was justified, he was too high to begin with, scouts from other teams were telling us his worth and we weren't listening.

Good to see Swidler gaining confidence. Need one more shooter on this team. Preferably a guard. Hampton has to find a niche. Heat needs a shooter at a guard position.

Jaime playing point is gonna be interesting to see how many times they go to that.

Plus got fouled going to the rim on what should have been 2 more points and a bloody nose.
All of this in less than 3 quarters, he had to come out with hit on the nose.

Stats say 7-22. 9-22 wouldn’t be much better tho. It’s not even all the misses, it’s more I just see him playing exactly the same. Can’t beat anyone off the dribble, can’t do much without someone giving him a pick. It’s just one game yes but I see the same Herro today that I saw for 82 last season. He’s a fine shooter, todays misses don’t change that. It’s just I guess I expected “more” and I’m disappointed that so far, he’s the same exact player

The Heat got a good one in Jaquez. I watched him grow up at UCLA and he's a gamer.

Swider can shoot the rock too. That's his only real NBA skill but it's a useful one.

Positives :
- JJJ , can't believe we got another one. He is ready. He can contribute right now. I'm hyped
- Highsmith , if he can hit that 3pt shot and he was 2 for 2 today he should be the starting PF no question
- Thomas Bryant , i loved what i saw, he is really giving another dimension to the backup big. He can score , he has the size , he can rebound. I don't see Robinson taking his spot
- Swider , HEAT GOT ANOTHER ONE! Thank you Lakers. 6'9 and to shoot like that. Get him signed today. 1+1 or 2+1. GET IT DONE!
- Herro, even tho he didnt shoot great i think some of the shots he usually makes and he also got some fouls not called. I think he's gonna have a great season

Negatives :
- Dru Smith, please no more. He just doesn't have it.
- Duncan, but i'm not worried, it was just an off day
- Love and Lowry can't have both starting. Just can't.
