Re: Official Spec Thread: Preseason
Was looking at some box scores and I was wondering if the Magic’s offense style causes our players to suffer from a counting stats perspective. It seems like other than once in a while for Cole or Paolo, no player seems to put up a lot of shots, especially Franz, or get a lot of minutes. Guys on Houston get 9 shots on 8 minutes PT, and somehow Jordan Hawkins on the Pel’s is averaging 14 shots a game. I wonder if Mose’s offense will hurt our counting stats and our chances of getting All Stars or other awards. Guess it don’t matter if we win.

I was wondering how slow our starter plays...
And well, this is answer to my question , but yours as well

granted sample size is ultra small, but also that pace difference among starters of Magic and any other team is crazy.

In terms of potential awards or whatnot - yes they suffer in that sense. Roster will always influence counting stats, be it by minutes distribution or players and roles on the floor. We are very much a “scoring by committee” squad at the moment. However, our two core players are young and still defining their games. Their own individual improvements over time will boost the stats and more wins will gain recognition. Couple that with current aging stars who’ll leave an award void, I don’t think it’ll be too much an issue.

Re: Official Spec Thread: Preseason
Some individual player things I'll be looking for this season:
Paolo improving his efficiency. I'll likely monitor PER to track this, want a 3 point jump into the 18 range. Would love to see him up above 20.
Franz being more assertive. I'll probably monitor usg%. Would like ~25%.
Suggs increasing his role. I'd like him to stay healthy and join Paolo and Franz in the core. I'll monitor minutes played, looking for him to be 3rd on the team in this.
Black having a successful season. I'll monitor his productivity relative to other rookies, particularly Amen and Ausar. Having more points, rebounds, assists, and stocks on better efficiency is what I'm watching for.

That is insane. Passes the eye test though. We are so deliberate, which is weird for a bad half court team.

Wow, that is fire. 2 rings, finals MVP both times. 8x scoring champ, 16x all-star, 13 x all-nba 1st team. 27/8/6 on .48/.38/.91 shooting. May we live in this world.
And $610,000,000.00 in salary earned. Hmm.

Don't need no black holes chucking shots. Prefer players play in a team oriented offense. Points will come to those who excel in their role and get more plays called for them.

I saw “E. Peyton” in the boxscore for Cairns and chuckled at the similarity. Then saw it was a typo on his name and he was a fill in! My dreams have come true - Payton now has an Australian association.
I hope he can get himself back on an NBA squad, but if he chooses to come play for an Australian team I wouldn’t complain at all.

A five day break between preseason games; the NBA is taking Load Management overly seriously here. It's not like any starter will log more than 20 mpg.

I don't think we've had a fan friendly schedule early on. No weekend games, no TV, the first two games, and most of the early games are out west .drsd wrote:A five day break between preseason games; the NBA is taking Load Management overly seriously here. Our pace, particularly with starters need to be faster. We have a young starting 5.

Been watching Cam Whitmore and I still can’t believe we passed on him. Huge mistake.

Houston, Portland, and the Lakers should all be wins to start the season.
