I like LaMelo a lot. I think he's going to have a big year (though I'm starting to think I got that wrong) But he's been way off the pace and it's time in year 4 to start calling out the crap that he should have got out of his game after his rookie year.

He's also coming off an injury and getting back into game shape. With shooters, sometimes they endure slumps. It happens. You've been entirely too critical of him.

Yes let's put his complete lack of effort and bad decision making (over numerous seasons) purely on a shooting slump.

It's time for Melo to put his big boy pants on and work out how to stay in front of his man, not concede cheap fouls and game manage as the point guard.

Embarrassing start to the season. At worst we should 2-1 but 3-0 was a real possibility with the schedule and 3 straight home games. It’s not just the losses, it’s getting out hustled and tougher by both Detroit and Brooklyn.

The guys for the most part don’t look like they really give a damn… we need a culture change. Clean house from Mitch to Cliff,

I will give Mitch a huge thank you for taking Miller who looks to be a star in the making, but, other than that, I can’t give him more than a C as a gym… imagine having Jalen Duren on this team.. that one’s gonna hurt for a long time.

Well ain't getting that 6-4 start we were hopong for and you must think Miles is a Giannis level talent if you think he will fix our issues.

Atleast Miller keeps balling.
Your Charlotte Hornets! We’ll eventually get something right;right?

He almost should be fired for saying that alone.

The team took a big step back when we went from JB to Clifford. We need to find somebody different.

Nets score 133 points shooting 56% with stretches of layup lines and wide open threes. Stupid fouls, bad schemes, “Terrific defense”

“Defense appeared optional” - Boone

“We’re not winning many games giving up 133 points.” - Mark Williams

EDIT - just watched full presser. Think Cliff may have been referring to games 1 and 2 when he was opining about terrific defense. Almost give him credit for almost calling out Melo by name for the early game, early shot clock bad threes that gifted the Nets the transition buckets that sparked that 1Q shiteshow. He still needs to get fired.

How many **** years in a row are we gonna hear those quotes

Like even the optimists on this board, and they know who they are, have to be pulling their hair out. How can you be content with this?

There was a time when Clifford could get you an elite half court defense with Kemba Walker and Al Jefferson as the PoA defenders in pick and rolls. Those days are.long gone, the game has passed him by. That or he knows he's a lame duck that will never be a head coach in the league again. Or both

I still have PTSD from Clifford's first tenure, when we rehired him it took me a few days to realize that it actually happened and it wasn't a joke.

I really, really hope we don't let him BS us the entire season. He won't be back next year, so what's the point of waiting to find another coach? Give someone else a shot and see what happens. If they also suck, we're right where we would have been anyway had we waited until the off-season to fire Clifford.

I look forward to the day Miller gets held to a LaMelo-like standard on here. Just kidding -- he'll get babied for five years like MKG.

Clifford probably thinks that once Frank is back, our defense will be good.

He just can't relate to this era. Either the players or the playstyle.

First quarter doomed us. Miller looks awesome, so that takes a lot of the sting out of it.

Cliff is not a good NBA coach. I'm not sure he's holding us back from the playoffs, the team might be a 35 win unit regardless, but he is certainly not optimizing performance. Benching Mark for the entire 4th was ridiculous. When Frank comes back and gets more minutes than Miller I am going to lose it.

Mark and Nick combined for 22pts on 10/10 shooting 4-4 FT's and 9 rebounds.

Yet Mark got benched for half the game and Nick barely played at all.

Lost the rebounds by 7. To a team with Ben Simmons as their best rebounder. And that was with PJ getting 12, something he hardly ever does.

We would've won this if Melo didn't suck and Cliff didn't bench our bigs. Maybe even one of those things.

I didn't get to watch the game live, but I watched some condensed clips this morning. From what I saw Simmons was killing Hornets early in transition and causing matchup problems for our bigs hence why even though Mark and Nick were efficient they were -14 together in 36 minutes. We went small with PJ/Thor at the 5 to match and in those minutes and played Nets pretty even for those 12 mins with no center on the floor.

A fact that our organization seems to be oblivious to is that the trio of LaMelo, Rozier, and Hayward are always going to be a horrific line of defense on the perimeter. Gordon and Terry's time in Charlotte needs to come to an end sooner rather than later. But unfortunately we are a stupid organization that tries nothing and then at the end of the season trots out the same tired excuses.

I would of course LOVE to be proven wrong. I would be over the moon if they went out and traded for a player that fits between LaMelo and Miller. And then for the love of basketball and actual success (which I know is scary for this org) we freaking START our core players and play them 35+ minutes a night.

Apparently you might consider this to be a wild take, but I bet if he gets a max contract then he'll be treated by fans like he got a max contract.

Just fyi, in our first two games our DRTG was top 10 - https://www.nba.com/stats/teams/advanced?DateFrom=10/24/2023&DateTo=10/29/2023&dir=A&sort=DEF_RATING

Cliff isn't wrong that our defense was playing well.

Also another random FYI Cliff continues to be wedded to fast pace - our pace on the season is ranked 2nd.

Clifford playing Mark 23 minutes in this game is honestly hilarious.

I think Maledon should have been the first option at backup PG and Frank's injury saved Clifford from himself. I fully expect Frank will be the backup PG again once he gets healthy and I assume its going to drive everyone mad.
