chet is a role player, fundamentally. a high level one certainly, but he's not leading a title contending team as a #1, probably not #2 option.
Banchero is on the trajectory of that kind of player
I disagree. Neither one is a number 1 option on a contending team. Both will be multiple time all stars, but they won't be on that level.
Writing off a player who put up 20/7/4 as a 19 yr old rookie as not having 1st option trajectory is crazy

Eh, not really. I watched him play every game at Duke and continue to follow him with the Magic. He's a damn good player. I just think we have a different definition of a number 1 go to guy on a "contending" team.
Also lol at write off. Get out of here.

I think you're absolutely wrong. Paolo has the one skill set all true scorers that are #1 options have. The ability to draw fouls and create offense (for himself and others). He was in the top 10 in getting to the line his rookie season.

If you watch highlights of tonights win and dont think he can be a 1# option, you're obviously bias. Becuse he is one, and the Magic are one close game away from being 5-1 to start the year. Paolo is much faster then he was at Duke, where they he had a much a different role and he was probably 15-20lbs heavier.

Let's be honest. You think Banchero can be the number 1 option on a CONTENDING team. Playoff team sure. But a true contender? I just disagree. But to each their own.

Chet looks like a quality #2-3 guy.
I don’t a team with Banchero as the best player winning anything.
Why can't banchero be a quality #2 or #3 guy?

He probably could be but right now he is playing well as a number one guy on a team that is doing well so far this season. I have no idea what the future holds for the Magic but Banchero is looking like a great player.

I'm just raising the point of how you think you can confidently predict a player's career trajectory ceiling while he still is only 20 years old.
He's 6'10.5 barefoot, dribbles and moves like a guard, quick, 40 inch vert, draws FT's at an elite rate, and put up 20/7/4 as a rookie.
He's been above average defensively this year on top of all that. Orlando is ranked 2nd defensively in the NBA.
The only thing holding him back from being a 1st option on a championship contender is developing a consistent jump shot. That's it.
If you can so confidently state that he will never develop a consistent jump shot, cool. Seems pretty goofy to me to say that about a 20 yr old though.

Chet plays better off ball.

Paolo has exponentially improved this season. On both sides of the ball. He'll probably be on the all-star team this season.

I never said he didn't have first option trajectory. Whatever that's supposed to mean. He's a first option right now. But a first option on a contending team? Nah in my opinion.

Lol what a ridiculous thread. After Paolo has two bad games! He’s the one, next on the throne.

If you've been watching what Paolo has been doing I would not proclaim Chet over him.

Paolo hate is weird. Is it because nba podcast nerds decided they didn’t like him so everyone parrots that opinion 2 years on?

ogmagicfan wrote:I like Chet, and I hope he manages to stay healthy the rest of his career, but Paolo is what the Magic needed. We needed a go-to scorer BADLY.
Last 2 games he's played illustrates it:
30 Pts (9/13 shooting, 1/2 from 3), 9 Rebs, 5 Asts, 3 Blks, 2 Stls vs Jazz
25 Pts (9/15 shooting, 2/4 from 3), 7 Rebs, 10 Asts, 1 Blk, 1 Stl vs Lakers
He's the archtype of the kinda player who can be a 1st option on a championship team. I'd pick him over Chet 10 outta 10 times, you don't pass up a 1st option for a role player offensively. Especially when taking into account how badly we needed a go to scorer
People don’t talk about how good of a defender Paolo has quickly become, also, people never talk about how good of a passer he is.
He is becoming a 6ft 10in, 2 way, playmaker who can drop 30 on you on any given night. All while being the main focus of the opponents game plan.
That is special!

I think Banchero has ability of #1 option but can he shoulder pressure of #1 option ? We can only wait to see. For example Harden has ability of #1 option but not the mental makeup, same with Embiid. On the opposite side is Butler who is not as talented but is a fighter. We will see.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

I don't see how you've come to this conclusion. Considering, Paolo is playing better than majority of the #1 options in the NBA, compared to their year 2. Also, Chet is playing better as a "rookie" than those same names when they were rookies. If anything it would be an easier argument to say why they both are #1 options, versus are not.

This this his ALL of THIS
This cat Paolo is a three level scorer, growing as a set up man, and most importantly can create his own offense out of nothing. He’s becoming a good defender period with just one year under his belt, and is capable of night in night out putting up an elite scoring load while not tanking in efficiency or becoming fatigued.
Posters know as long as Orlando doesn’t tank completely that he’s going to be an all star this year, yes? Maybe even a starter.
If Banchero isn’t currently on trajectory for the #1 option on a contender, then nobody under the age of 24 in this league is, lol
