I think we still need to give Siakam more time to adjust. He went from averaging 18 FGA/game with a 27 USG% the past 4 seasons and now he's suddenly down to 14 FGA/game and 21 USG% this season – but he's still facing the brunt of defensive attention despite much less of an offensive role overall. His 3FG% and 3FGA are pretty much in line with what he did in the previous 4 seasons as the #1 option, but his inside finishing is way down and he's not getting much of an opportunity to score in the mid-range either; he was converting 72% of his attempts within 3 feet and 45% of his attempts from 3-10 feet since 19/20 while also hitting ~42% of ~5 mid-range attempts, but those numbers are down to 67%, 30% and 43% on ~2 attempts per game respectively. Siakam's play on the offensive end so far reminds me of early 21/22 when he came back from surgery a few weeks into the season and was trying to find his way into the offence. Uncharacteristic misses inside and sloppy turnovers have made him look A LOT worse than he can be even at his most average.

We need to give this core 20-25 games at least to see how the pieces fit before making a massive move like trading Siakam. Ideally, he gets his **** together and he becomes one of the best #2 options in the league and Scottie continues to do his thing while Schroder gives some of his extra touches to our best players. And it is very likely that it plays out like that IMO.

Said this is another thread, but once defences start prioritizing Scottie, Siakam is gonna see one on one coverage again and we all know Siakam one on one is food against most of the league.

42% from 3 is insane
if he hovers around 35% thats still huge for him

If anyone saw the Dick pass to him with the clock down and Scottie had to launch it, some would say it was a fluke but his legs and shot pocket were perfect on that. Nice sign to see that when u got 1 second to launch. That's muscle memory.

He's not at their level yet, but he's playing like some weird combination of Giannis and Kawhi. Like this kid is so freaking good, and I can hardly believe what I'm watching.

I'm glad I don't have a twitter/X account because I would be trolling a lot of these media guys' accounts mercilessly. The way they slandered him last season, especially Doug Smith, they need to own up to it and apologize. Questioning his work ethic, his character and calling him entitled.

I just really want to see this kid with a proper roster around him. That Scottie + 4 shooters lineup really excited me.

This is it, build a proper roster around Barnes.

Masai and Bobby need to start calling teams now. I like Pascal but the Siakam trade has to happen at some point. They have to act fast before Lavine, DeRozan and Vuc are on the market. Stop evaluating.

Something I've been watching very closely is how he shoots with the clock winding down because on eye test at least, in the second half of last season it always felt like he made late clock jumpers consistently:

This is with 4 seconds or less on the shot clock so far this season:

Restricted area: 2/4
Mid-Range: 3/5
Above the Break 3: 1/2

It's small sample size, but even going back to the second half of last season, when he shoots jumpers with the clock winding down, he has a knack for making those.

i agree...the franchise trajectory depends on it....

we can have a 30 win season, but as long as scottie takes that leap, then that would soften the blow

OG Anunoby is the perfect complement to Scottie's game, especially on the defensive end. the team has to keep OG at any cost unless there's a more impactful star coming back. When the floor is spaced, Scottie dominates and everything about him gets maximized. OG's 3 point shooting and his lockdown defensive versatility is exactly who you want on the floor with Scottie and his profile is a rarity.

you keep OG even if you get that 2nd star....
that's why raps are prioritizing OG over Pascal , which totally make sense

OG's contract going to start in the jerami grant range....5 yr/160M or 5 yr/175 range

The reverse Siakam, Siakam has a habit of starting strong and disappears later in games, Barnes can start of badly and just turn it on in the 4th.

I remember last year the media was complaining about why Barnes would only play half the game, that half was in the 4th quarter usually.

Tbh, Barnes started off scoring like crap and I was prepared to shrug my shoulders and chalk it up to the Wemby effect.

Wemby is absurd defensively, so I wouldn't be too worried had Barnes had a bad offensive game today.

Lol well 3 but he needs another dynamic scorer on the wing ala DEN does with Jokic (not that the other guys defend as well as OG). But the recipe is decent defenders that can shoot with another wing scorer to keep the spacing & the defence honest covering Scottie.
