Rest of the coaching staff returning obviously, I think, means that an internal guy like Carlos is taking over.

I would have thought Murphy would go to Chicago.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I wonder if it’s not Carlos since they just promoted him within the front office

Did he say he would have matched?

Ya tbh I highly doubt Mark A would have matched. But to not even give him a chance and just bolt for your biggest rival is a real crap thing to do

Certainly seems that way. Weird to be in a pennant race and say open to leaving in the last month when kept quiet all year. Mets were likely used as leverage with Cubs. Seemed to be pretty orchestrated.

The other thing is let the Brewers say no and it makes CC look like, hey I had a great offer and they didn’t match it. I feel like now CC looks like the **** one easily.

Any chance Murphy gets a shot at it? He was a pretty successful college Manager at one time.

I like him and the players seem to like him. He's had some health problems I think.

Murphy is the one I'm most surprised at staying. He was specifically a CC guy when he was brought in

Guessing Counsell’s camp reached out to Cubs? That be pretty **** on a Manager brotherhood level of CC if so. Maybe Cubs just took a swing once he was a free agent.

Think he had a heart attack, or nearly did, at the stadium a few years back. I have not heard much since. He had a 947-400 record in college from 1988-2009. Looks like he ran into violations to end his run at Arizona State, but they were a perennial power. Also had a brief mediocre interim run with the Padres in 2015. He will be 65 later this month. Once the dust settles, wonder if he still maybe follows CC to Chicago — or maybe opts to walk away too.

In Verducci's article it says that according to a source close to Counsell, the Cubs were the team he'd want to manage if he ever wasn't managing in Milwaukee.

Also,

“What I don’t get is why the Brewers just didn’t pay to keep him,” says a source close to Counsell.

GOOD QUESTION.

So does Chicago sign Burns, Ohtani, or both?

They did offer to pay him. We crap on dumb teams all the time for "negotiating against themselves". In this instance there was an initial offer from the Brewers to Counsell to make him the highest paid manager in all of MLB, if Counsell never went back to them with a counter offer or said "you need to beat these terms" then I'm not sure how this is on the Brewers at all. How much should the initial offer by the Brewers have been? Should they have immediately offered to make him nearly twice as highly paid as any other manager right from the jump? Should they have offered 10 mil per year? 15 mil per year? If they knew they would only get 1 offer how high should they have gone?
