Re: The Trae Young Dilemma
Shooting numbers still ugly, but he's running the offense more effectively even with the terrible shooting efficiency.

Re: The Trae Young Dilemma
Even the wide open floater doesn't seem to be falling.
And in this offense doesn't allow for nearly as many lob passes as years past. (Just think of all those lob/floaters where defenders nor teammates knew which was which. Not nearly enough of those as the screener doesn't roll to the rim nearly as hard or as often.)

I would like to see his turnover average to below 4 per game. The issue I have with Trae has mainly been his three point chucking and this season he's shooting 27%.

I don't get how being in a new system has you missing so many shots at the rim.
Where the offseason has more buzz happens.

Agreed. Quin, by philosophy, has encouraged the team to shoot more 3s than last season. And that is the right approach in this modern age of basketball. But, I'd like to see us take a more disciplined approach, emphasizing catch and shoot 3s or threes generated out of the PnR.
These are considered higher % shots because defenders typically aren't within 3 feet and should allow for cleaner looks at a more efficient rate.
Nothing irks me more than watching Trae dribble way too long, working way too hard against elite NBA defenders and then settle for a step back, off balance, contested 3-pt shot that bounces off the front rim.
These are terrible shots and too often lead to dead possessions and fast break opportunities for the opposition.

We could have him here next to Trae!!!!
We had a 26 year old Center in our starting lineup, but we passed on Tyrese Haliburton in summer 2020 to draft an undersized teenage Center!!
Who is still stuck coming off the bench.

Re: The Trae Young Dilemma
Peachtree HoopsTrae Young Playing a Complementary Style of Basketball
While Young showing signs of maturity off the court is a welcome sight for Hawks’ fans, what’s even more exciting is seeing this growth carry over to the basketball court as well. While no one can deny his ability to create for his teammates at a high level*, it’s a fair question to ask whether Young’s gaudy assist numbers over the past few seasons came at the expense of the optimal play-style that the Hawks’ needed to adopt in order to contend for a title as he has routinely ranked amongst the league leaders in usage-rate for the majority of his career.
Through the first seven games of the 2023-24 season, even though Young has struggled to find his shooting touch (currently shooting just 33.6% from the field and 27.3% from three), what has really stood has been his willingness to get off the ball earlier in the shot clock and play off of his teammates a bit more.
Young’s shooting percentages (and in turn, the Hawks’ offensive efficiency with him on the court) are bound to improve, but even so, the fact that Atlanta still ranks sixth in the NBA in offensive efficiency with him shooting so poorly during the early portion of the season is an encouraging sign for the team, and should only serve to increase Young’s confidence in his teammates.
If he can continue to strike a balance between his on-ball and off-ball contributions as the season progresses and his shooting efficiency improves, Atlanta’s offense will become a nightmare for opposing defenses to guard.
