Re: Atlanta Hawks Trade Proposal Thread -- Part IV
Pascal Siakam seems to be a hit topic at the moment but I hope Joel Embiid becomes available. I see very few dominate players becoming available that really makes us a true contender. Joel Embiid night be the best option depending on how his relationship with the 76ers goes this season.

The Hawks have long been rumored to be interested in Siakam, and this trade lands him there as part of a star trio that includes Trae Young and Dejounte Murray.
Giving up two rotation wings and a first-round pick may seem like a hefty price tag for Siakam, but Atlanta may be in a unique position to do so. Saddiq Bey, Jalen Johnson and AJ Griffin are all waiting in the (ahem) wings.
A consolidation trade makes sense when Atlanta is getting a player who has averaged more than 20 points per game in each of his last four seasons.
Toronto Raptors Receive: De'Andre Hunter, Luke Kennard, Brandon Clarke, a 2027 first-round pick from Memphis, a 2029 first-round pick from Memphis and a 2029 first-round pick from Atlanta

Bleacher Report doesn't know anymore than us what is said between these GMs, but I will say that this trade gets to a place where I would consider pulling the trigger...just need to slap a lottery protection on that 2029

I'm curious, do you see Okongwu being able to play alongside Embiid?
More importantly, are you willing to trade 22 year old Okongwu for 29 year old Embiid given the latter's injury history?

Bleacher ReportEvery NBA Team's Top 3 Trade Assets
Atlanta Hawks
Top Assets
- AJ Griffin
- De'Andre Hunter
- 2029 first-round pick
Rookie-scale wings are always coveted, and Griffin has real scoring chops, both as a complementary shooter and on-ball creator. His defense needs to tick up, but with three years of cost-controlled money left on his deal, he's critical to any blockbuster trade the Atlanta Hawks might pursue.
Hunter isn't necessarily in the same camp. His shot has proved come-and-go, he's solid-yet-unspectacular on defense, and the four-year, $90 million extension he signed last year kicks in this season. Even so, he fills the three-and-D archetype. The money might be a tad steep, but it also may never take up 15 percent of the salary cap.
Rounding out the asset trio is a distant first-rounder. Short-circuiting the long-term future of an aggressively unexceptional team is never a bad idea. This pick, which stretches to 2029 because of Atlanta's 2027 obligation to San Antonio, holds more appeal than Kobe Bufkin, the soon-to-be-more-expensive Onyeka Okongwu, Jalen Johnson, Saddiq Bey (extension-eligible), Bogdan Bogdanović or Clint Capela.
Include Dejounte Murray (trade-eligible after Jan. 8) or Trae Young if you're so inclined. Barring disaster, the Hawks profile as buyers. Improving your title chances while moving either of them is unlikely.

Dallas isn't given up anything of value to get Capela.
Holmes was a salary dump with the pick that became Omax, he's still a salary dump. So that leaves Kleber for Capela?
I think the Hawks have moved on from Siakam, too much to give up for a rental. If this first game is any indication....Jalen Johnson just might be the future at PF.

So Hawks give up Clint Capela, Bogdan Bogdanovic and Kobe Bufkin for 1 season of Pascal Siakam?
I'd probably pass...
Going from a 43 win team to a 46 win team isn't worth the trouble at this point.

Re: Atlanta Hawks Trade Proposal Thread -- Part IV
Fadeaway WorldThe Pelicans Go All-In For Trae Young
New Orleans Pelicans receive: Trae Young
Atlanta Hawks receive: CJ McCollum, Herb Jones, 2024 first-round pick, 2026 first-round pick
Trae Young, the focal point of the acquisition for the New Orleans Pelicans, has showcased his scoring and playmaking prowess in the early games of the season. With an impressive average of 24.4 points and 10.2 assists per game, Young has been a dynamic force on the court. Despite a field goal percentage of 35.7%, his ability to create opportunities for himself and his teammates underscores his value as a premier playmaker in the league.
On the other side of the trade, C.J. McCollum brings a scoring touch that could complement the Pelicans' offensive scheme. In the six games he has played this season, McCollum has averaged 21.7 points, 5.7 assists, and 4.8 rebounds per game. Notably, his shooting efficiency stands out with a 44.0% field goal percentage and an impressive 38.3% from beyond the arc, adding a reliable perimeter threat to the Pelicans' arsenal.
Herb Jones, a promising defensive talent, has also made an impact in the early games of the season. Averaging 10.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game with a solid 47.1% field goal percentage, Jones provides a well-rounded contribution. His defensive capabilities, combined with a burgeoning offensive game, make him an intriguing asset in the trade.Conversely, the Atlanta Hawks would receive C.J. McCollum, a seasoned guard with offensive prowess, Herb Jones, a promising defensive talent, and future draft assets. This trade aligns with Atlanta's roster needs, particularly with Dejounte Murray emerging as the primary ball handler and Jones contributing elite perimeter defense to support McCollum's offensive capabilities.Spoiler:
In essence, this proposed trade has the potential to redefine the trajectories of both franchises. It offers the Pelicans a dynamic offensive core and a pathway to contention while providing the Hawks with a more balanced roster and valuable draft assets for future maneuvers. The implications of such a move extend far beyond the individual player statistics, promising a reshaping of team dynamics and aspirations in the highly competitive landscape of the NBA.

At $60+ million annually, it would take half of our rotation players just to get close to that salary.
Hawks are unlikely to pay that much for a secondary star not named Trae Young.
You guys are better off pursuing Anthony Davis, KAT, Zion, LaMelo...
(And if you need a 3rd team for that, we might be of some use.)

Re: Atlanta Hawks Trade Proposal Thread -- Part IV
Hakws FansidedKnicks' Quentin Grimes Could Still Help Hawks
Michael Scotto of HoopsHype shed light on another non-Siakam trade target for the Hawks: New York Knicks guard Quentin Grimes.
“In years past, the Knicks shied away from including Grimes in trade talks with the Clippers for Paul George, the Bulls for Zach LaVine, the Jazz during Donovan Mitchell trade talks, and the Hawks, who also inquired about him,” Scotto wrote on November 29.
Grimes, 23, was the No. 25 overall pick of the draft in 2021. After a career year averaging 11.3 points on 61.9% true shooting in his second season, He is averaging 6.7 points on 53.5% true shooting this year. Grimes is a career 38.3% three-point shooter. He started 66 of 71 appearances last season and all 15 of his appearances this season. But his role was reduced following the Knicks’ trade for Josh Hart year.
The Hawks have added Dejoute Murray via trade and Kobe Bufkin via the draft to the backcourt in back-to-back offseasons. They also have veterans Bogdan Bogdanovic and Wesley Matthews and second-year prospect AJ Griffin coming off the bench on the wings, though the latter has struggled to maintain a consistent role under head coach Quin Snyder.
Murray has also been slumping while Bufkin is working his way back from a fractured thumb and the Hawks’ perimeter defense continues to be leaky.
Grimes’ ability as a defender and a floor spacer would...help with that, adding an element of toughness to the group as well.It might make more sense to give Griffin a shot at proving he can overcome whatever is keeping him from showing the same effectiveness he did to start his career. But there is still room for Grimes and what he brings.Spoiler:

The Knicks eventually told teams in the past that it will take a high first round pick for them to trade him. His value seems to be low at the moment. A sharp shooter that's not being utilized.Jamaaliver wrote:Hakws FansidedKnicks' Quentin Grimes Could Still Help Hawks

This is the type of buy low deal that could look amazing 12-15 months from now.
More video of Quentin in action -- in better days.

Re: Atlanta Hawks Trade Proposal Thread -- Part IV
Wolves fan here. I am wondering what you guys think of DM and OO for KAT?
The hawks get a 50/40/90 dynamic offensive player to pair with Jalen Johnson. KAT more than makes up for the production you lose in Murray. Moreover, KAT’s defense has been improving the past 3 years, and while he may not be elite, he is certainly capable of defending at the rim or in space.
DM becomes our PG of the future, OO either gets moved again or becomes our backup C if we move Naz Reid to the PF.
Feels like a win, win for both teams. If you agree the value is there.

You're on to something.
Having a big/little combo of these two players would be great offensively, terrible defensively and a train wreck in the locker room.
But moving DeJounte Murray for an elite front court scorer does make sense. I'd probably prefer that Okongwu and Jalen Johnson be held out of this trade as they both pair really well alongside KAT.
But this is a solid proposition that's been mentioned here before -- in one variation or another.

Assume the bones are KAT and Murray swap and that we don’t want Capella, (bad fit,) how would you modify this?

If we're adding KAT, we can probably move Hunter, Saddiq Bey, Capela, AJ Griffin and the Sacramento Kings 2024 Draft pick for value.
Wes Matthews and Patty Mills are available for salary matching.
Hawks would probably have interest in acquiring Kyle Anderson and/or NAW.
If we need to loop in a 3rd team, Lakers, Clippers, Kings and Golden State seem like options to reroute Hunter or Capela through.
