Wizards are so trash and the exact type of team that has enough shooters to just randomly beat us

Jordan Poole might be the dumbest athlete I've ever seen play a professional sport

The game plan against them is simple.
On defense, press them all the time. Tyus is the only one that can handle it.
On offense, attack Jordan Poole.

Re: 2023-2024 Official Around the NBA Discussion Thread
Miles Bridges back for CHA next week...he may be a piece of s**t as a man, but, strictly in bball terms, there's a lot of talent on that team.
Easy to ignore Gordon Hayward-but he is a pretty complete player (despite injury history)
Brandon Miller looks really good
PJ Washington is solid and occasionally more than that
Lamelo is a stud
Mark Williams is looking great...occasionally putting up crazy #'s
Bridges, last time we saw him, was flirting with All-Star level chemistry with LaMelo lobs and 3pt shooting
Rozier is nobody's favorite but always puts up #'s
Nick Smith looked good to me pre-draft, hasn't gotten his chance yet-could be a quiet steal of a pick
Interesting team

If you haven't seen that NBA Top Plays #1 from last night...Josh Hart roasting Jrue...check it out
I love all of those Villanova guys from that era...and the Knicks captured all but Mikal. Heady, crafty winners

OKC 6-4, which is a good start. But they've dropped both in-season tournament games? That's potentially a red flag.

Jrue is better than Lillard.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that Jrue is better than Lillard. Adrian Griffin is a TERRIBLE coach IMO.
I don't know if he is good or bad...BUT he's just a completely different coach than Budenholzer.
Look at who Griffin was an assistant under Scott Skiles (twice), Thibedeau, Nick Nurse. Everyone of those guys is a grinder, switch everything, hard asses. Budenholzer basically the opposite in every way, especially defense, and is a Popovich disciple Spurs Culture guy.
Terry Stotts quitting with no explanation was probably a bigger deal than anybody knew and there's probably a serious clash of egos continuing right now between coach(es) and players.
Plus Milwaukee is old AF. They pushed their chips in and got what they wanted...a Giannis extension.

Why? Is anybody treating these things as anything different than regular season games?

They scored 139 without SGA against the Warriors in one of these games yet somehow lost because the Warriors also had an absurd shooting night, they are fine.

I mean we want them to do good or bad here?
Other then being an interesting team with a lot of up and coming players I am not very invested.

Wow, i hadn't heard that. I am shocked...I figured he was closer to never playing another game. Only missing 10-12, surprised the league isn't putting their thumb on the scale here.
You are right, Charlotte has good players, and they got Clifford there to raise the floor. They aren't nearly as bad as people make them out to be...I'd be surprised if they aren't hanging around 10-12th seed all year, and that means they are going to beat good teams.

Not sure TBH, but if they are playoff'esque you can learn more about your team's build from these than a typical regular season game.

I'd be willing to bet half of the players don't even know or care which games are "special"

It will take the coaches and players to buy in that these games are different. We definitely don't have the data yet, to know if they will/are.

Each player gets 100k if they win and a trip to Vegas to build exposure. Every player probably wants that limelight.jonbob17 wrote:eyriq wrote:OKC 6-4, which is a good start. But they've dropped both in-season tournament games? That's potentially a red flag.

I'll be looking for things like bumps in viewership, shorter rotations/higher mpg, smaller point differentials, and teams that win and advance to win and advance in the postseason.
Edit: What other data do you think would be interesting to use in order to parse out if in-season tourney games are more competitive?

If money and prestige is involved I expect the first 1-2 years to be OK.

I'm very confident that 95% of fans don't even know that XY game is "tournament" game aside from goofy color of court once they walk or tune in.
I consider myself nba junkie and even i struggled to cought up with everything about this. I still do.
Players might care more due $$, but i guess it's more about them not scheduling "rest days" during such games.
