Re: NBA MVP Discussion Thread 2023-24 (continued)
Joel Embiid is now averaging 35.1 ppg in 65.2 TS%. If he's not sitting most of the 4th quarter because he gets the job done by the end of 3rd, he should be already on pace to beat Harden in 2019(36.1 ppg in 61.6 TS%) and Kobe in 2006(35.4 ppg in 55.9 TS%) to have the best points per game average in 37 years since Jordan in 1987(37.1 ppg in 56.2 TS%). Embiid silence his haters about him "ducking" top teams by scoring 51 points on the team with the best record in NBA and "defensive menace" Rudy Gobert. In their last 3 meetings, he averaged 40.7 ppg over Gobert so I'm not sure why they thought he's avoiding their match-up with Rudy. Still there's a lot of games left but Embiid comfortably leading the MVP race so far this season eventhough he's currently 4th in MVP poll here in GB.

Want some salt with that whine?
You are right, it is very easy to score 50 points if the opposing player has two fouls early. All players are doing it. Another outstanding contribution regarding Embiid. It gets better and better.
Have a good day.

Giannis gets more FTA. How have you never seen a big man that gets calls when a big man today gets more? Chris Finch needs to tell his team to keep their hands to themselves and stop fouling so much. And you really think getting 50+ points isn't difficult? lol ok
Yep, he’s reaching, much like the defenders in the paint.

Embiid is FOURTH?
Wow. Hard to believe the GB has him that high.

Tatum’s at least getting votes. I’d probably replace ANT with LeBron next go round.
You can put Siakam or Barnes in the poll and they will get votes.
But I agree that Ant should also be demoted and Lebron elevated.
ANT and Durant both have zero votes right now. Tatum has 6.

Said it a few days ago, and I’ll say it again. If you haven’t got Embiid leading right now, you are playing some amazing mental gymnastics.

I had him behind SGA and Jokic because he’d been sitting a bunch of their biggest games and had run up his stats against the bottom dwellers of the league…
51 points against Minnesota is a statement though. I’ll agree he deserves to be #1 for the time being. He’ll have to keep it up as the schedule stays tougher to maintain the spot, but for the time being he’s earned pole position.

What if I had Jokic MVP until tonight for his superior BPM and SOS but I just changed my vote to Embiid after tonight?

Re: NBA MVP Discussion Thread 2023-24 (continued)
I hate Embiid but there are polls on REALGM where people are arguing is Luka better or is that guy better....Embiid just had 51 points on 25 shots...while blowing out and beating beating down one of the best teams in the league with big men skilled enough and big enough to match him.
At some point you just acknowledge a man is playing great ball and tip your cap to him.
Embiid can’t defeat the playoff demons in the regular season...but right now he is making a strong argument for back to back MVPs...even if he didn’t deserve last years lol...yeah I still hate Embiid but he is going off

Yeah I don’t put stock in Tatum’s 6 votes. You’ll have certain fanbases vote for their guy regardless. Tatum isn’t in my top 10 for MVP any more.
AKME got to go

Embiid playing amazing ball, but that stretch from Dec 6 to Dec 18 helped a TON with that. Luckily MVP isn't decided in the first 1/3 of a season though...
Wizards
Hawks
Wizards
Pistons
Pistons
Hornets
I mean even Sixers fans gotta admit that's a SOFT schedule there...I mean the Sixers faced a stretch of 5 in 6 games where the opponent had a combined win total of 12

It also helps that his biggest competitor Jokic and his Nuggets keep winning at 100% rate when he miss a game or got ejected earlier in the game(3-0) while Embiid's Sixers have 0% win rate when Joel was sick and miss some games a few weeks ago.(0-3) but like you said, MVP isn't decided in the first 1/3 of the season so we'll see if Embiid can maintain his lead in the next few months.

And his highest score (51) was against the number one team in the west. You are really reaching atm.
